What I don't understand about the concept of global economic growth is, what is the long-term vision? Is the whole world destined to become a sprawling metropolis, with all animals restricted to parks and zoos? Does EVERYWHERE need to sustain humans, grow crops, with electricity and plumbing, etc? Why do people assume this is how it SHOULD be? Tribes thrived without the need for all these modern trappings, so why is western culture & technology now a model to be demanded everywhere?
It is proven now. The earth is not getting warmer, it has in fact gone cooler in the last couple of years.
And of course, the fact STILL stands that CO2 does not increase the temperature. It is the temperature of the worlds oceans that causes the rise and fall of CO2 (as shown on Gores graphs if you zoom in a bit). The temperature changes are caused by the sun.
Prince Charles Was Speaking out on Climate Change ten years before any of them and was being attacked as looney because of his views on Globel Warming. Plus unlike Clinton or Blair he's actuly putting his money where his mouth is.
I think Meles has made some very important points but if he thinks the west is going to help. Africa become self sufficient in power generation and supply? Not a chance.
Exactly, I think Meles said it right "We did not pollute. We are being punished because of what you did and we deserve the right to sell carbon credits to you so we can use the money to promote green development in our countries,""
Africa shouldnt have to bear weight of this new experiment. Western countries should first research and develop carbon neutral policies, then Africa can integrate them at a later date. To suggest Africa from the get go will adopt carbon neutral policies will in fact be to the detriment of African people.
The weight of the experiment can be footed by the developed countries for Africa. I think this is a serious enough problem that all hands have to be on the deck.
