  • what site is this sonic 2 rom found in?

  • @Yomigami

    sonicretro, i think

  • So, can someone explain? Is this a fan re-creation or what?

  • @lyris1

the four zones (dust hill, genocide city, wood, hidden palace) are all fan re-creations. the rest is original

  • @gauchojd uh i thot the four zones were real but becuz of space it was cut

  • @nexonkartrider309

three of them were real, wood zone and hidden palace - but you are correct that left out because of space. dust hill i know for sure was eventually put into sonic & knuckles as sandopolis. genocide city was scrapped because of the name.

the layouts of the four zones are fan re-creations, as in what they think the zones would've looked like if they were in a real sonic 2 cartridge

  • @gauchojd I now this is a little too late xD but Genocide City wasn't really scrapped because of the name, Genocide City was the name the japanese producers selected, but later it was named Cyber City in the beta sketch. It got scrapped because it turned into chemical plant.

  • HEY PEOPLE! SONIC KAI TIME! And check out the new series im making, sonic Kai! the entire Sonic X series but redone with a few edits quicker story line as well as new music in SOME parts. PLUS i already have the episode one trailer so please spread this around if you can. (STHbiggestfan owns this)

  • I enjoyed watching you play, I like the music in this level.

  • thank you

  • theres a way to play this level not glitchy but the real thing in the final version pm me if you want to know how and i may put a vid up about it :D

  • What did you use to record this video?

  • Gens emulator has the ability to record game videos. that's what i used to record this

  • Oh, that's right! Gens does have a recording thing in it. :P I posted my first comment 2 months ago, which was before I got Kega Fusion, or at least I think it was beforehand. Anyway, I use Fraps to record Kega Fusion. Thanks for the reply. ;)

  • you're welcome. i'm not familiar with Kega Fusion at all. if only the actual sonic 2 cartridge had these extra zones in them (i have a cartridge)

  • I have a model 1 Genesis and a Sonic 2 cartridge, too. Kega Fusion is just another Sega emulator that can fluently emulate Sega CD, Genesis, Master System, and a few others.

  • @TheRoboticFerret

thanks, i actually tried out kega and absolutely love it. great emulator.

and yes, i have the sonic 2 cartridge too

  • @gauchojd Yeah, Kega rocks. :)

  • @TheRoboticFerret - the screen resolution is superb, and full screen is literally full screen which i like a lot and like you said, it emulates sega cd, master system/game gear games. perfect.

  • @gauchojd I know, Sega was beast. :)

  • @gauchojd they do have them, they can only be accessed through extracting the data straight from the chip on to a rom

sega originally left the zones on the chip, but severed the circuits that connected it to the rest of the game

how do i know this? i have nerdy friends in big chatrooms xD

  • @OverruledDood

now THAT i did not know. i knew about the hidden palace zone remains being accessed by game genie, but not this news about dust hill. i wish they had left the connections intact for dust hill 'cause it would've been epic

  • @gauchojd yeah, hidden palace zone wasn't fully severed so a glitched version of it could be accessed by gamegenie like you said.

  • How is the code for stage select done ?

  • @mhwhwh

you can do this in the actual cartridge as well. go to the options menu (down twice or up once) and press start. next go down to the sound test and play (in this order): 19, 65, 9, 17. you'll hear a ring. go back to the main menu, hold A and press start

  • I like the blue version.

  • Oh my god, you barely dodged that. (from what I could tell) @ 5:16

  • Finally somebody has proven that you don't need to enter in debug mode to clear this level, the gray switches open new places and close others, I cleared Dust Hill Zone Act 2, but 1 is harder.

  • If you jumped into that lamppost at 3:59, I may have just had to kill you.

    Nice work!

  • Needless ti say, achievement unlocked my friend, achievement freakin' unlocked!!

  • Back 2 Back extra lives @ 2:50

  • a desert level then a....snowy level?

  • wow... this should be in the game!...

sorry for my english... :/ im French

  • Your english was fine.

No need to apologize for making mistakes, anyway.

I bet your english is better than most Americans :P.

  • You're a god at this game.

  • This looks like the Sandopolis Zone in Sonic & Knuckles.

I like the music for this zone.

  • theres such a thing as... a ...perfect ...Bonus...?

  • 488 rings?!

  • Oh, thank goodness you posted this. All I wanted to do was play Knuckles in Sonic 2, but the only glitch-free, working version I could find was Knuckles in Sonic 2... LONG VERSION! I've been stuck on stupid "Dust Hill Zone" for ages now. Hopefully with this video, and a lot of pausing, I will make it through and never have to go through it again :)

  • thank you for that last comment xtreme, but my life consists of school, mainly. i had to do SOMETHING in my free time :-)

  • you are good though

  • erm wow, u must of spent alot of time learning the exact route to go and know where everythin is, but i bet u have no social life apart from inviting ur freinds over to play playstation lol

  • gotta love that Sonic 2 music

  • thank you. it was not easy. i messed up several times doing this

  • Wow. One of the most hard-ass levels ever and with a perfect! Nice!

  • you get this zone in the extended version, which you can download for free

  • Where do you get this zone? I thought it wasn't playable in the final or beta versions of the game....

  • i really like the extended version better and everyone hates it why?

  • it's probably because of Dust Hill Zone

  • I have the extended version on my laptop, it's cool. And yes, Dust Hill Zone is an extremely frustrating level. I seemed to go around in circles for ages.

  • all the beta levels should be included in the game. Or just add some to sonic 3. I guess Sandopolis was inspired by this level.

  • I know, sega should redo the sonic 2, fix with the extra levels, and release it on the wii or 360 games.
