I play halo 3 online and this has also happend to me. i shot a sniper at a downward angle in the pits on team slayer and it ricoched off every corridore wall and came back and hit me in the back. Not really... if you're good with the sniper and know where to position yourself it can work out for you. sniper covers medium - long range, shotty for close. On somewhere like either sniper tower on the pit, it's seriously hard to kill you.
