does anyone here actually have any knowledge about copyright laws? they can't 'sue' because it's 'not the same song'. unless they stole actual radiohead documentation and added no creativity to their own version could radiohead actually sue. it doesn't matter if they just changed the instruments. it doesn't matter if they use the same lyrics.
There are many diffrent copyright protections. there is a master copyright. which is the use of the master recording which the record label holds. and then there is s sync licence that gives you the right to sync music of to a video, these two copyrights are what you tube gets pissed about. as far as lyrics or the instruments go. Im not exactly sure but sometimes you need a "parody" permission to make your version of the song.
Yep, you'll usually find that there are a few separate things under Copyright when it comes to a song. The audio recording itself, the musical arrangement and the lyrics are usually individually protected.
I'm with you. Idiot Pilot's first album was a little reminescent of Radiohead here and there, but I don't see any evidence of plagiarism (at least not of anything I'm familiar with) in this song.
the only way there can be no plagiarism here is if idiot pilot gives songwriting credits to radiohead. they've only been around since 2003. no surprises was released in 1997. not only this song quotes the melody from no surprises, it quotes the lyrics too "i'll take a quite life". have a listen.
For a start i know each band i dont need a timeline! That's not plagiarism, its four notes that are a similar progression to that of no surprises. As for the line, Idiot Pilot is "I'll take the quiet life", it's different, but anyways, that is a phrase so radiohead would have no grounds anyways!
lol it's way more than 4 notes..a whole phrase in the melody, plus the chord progression, plus the lyrics. radiohead would certainly have the grounds but i'm sure they wouldn't bother.
Its not more than four notes because radiohead change after them four notes and so do idiot pilot. The chord progression, that is not the same! and the lyrics arnt the same like i said, AND its a saying, radiohead don't own that line, besides this will never be as big as no surprises, not in a million years
hahaha, dude this song is quoting parts of no surprises almost verbatim. if you can't hear it i can't help you. if you think "i'll take the quiet life" and "i'll take a quiet life" are not essentially the same lyric IN ADDITION to the same melody, you need a serious reality check.
I'm saying legally they can't do anything because it is, in reality, not the same, also, taking the quite life IS A SAYING A SAYING A SAYING, for gods sake, thats like someone saying "A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks", and some one else saying it in another song, and the other trying to sue.
ok dude whatever, calm down before you give yourself an aneurysm.
i'll take the quiet life is not an idiom, i've never heard anybody use it apart from radiohead allusion, and it's not listed in the dictionary of idioms.
legally they could sue the crap out of this band, but they wouldn't do it anyway.
Not "ill take the quiet life", "The quiet life", many people want it and choose to take it, i havn heard of the dictionary of idioms, does that mean it doesn exist? Also you can give your self an aneurysm from repeating your self.
Probably because you replied to my comment, so i thought it would kind to reply to yours, BUT i had just come on this time to say the killing of john lennon is on and i havn seen it yet so i must depart old friend, only to find your rude rude comment, well Ms Katzo, you leave me no choice but to bid you adieu and i do hope we meet again in the near future. Au revoir, i am off to live the quiet life.

I actually thought it was some kind of cover
If it's not, it's totally plagiarism.
However it's so obvious, it must be just a private joke or something
zikfkz 2 years ago
i thought it was too for a second, but then it was different. probably some sort of tribute i guess.

I don't see any logic in what you're saying. Plagiarism of what?
