Congrats to Rice. But aside from his MVP year, he wasn't even the best player on his team (Lynn, Evans (whose number should have been retired before Rice's), Clemens, Fisk, Yaz (in the 70's) and Boggs were better. Not to mention they were the reason he got so much MVP consideration (RBI).

it was not 10 years it was 12 years 75-86 and you forgot to mention that rice is the only player with 35+ HRs .300 BA and 200 Hits three staright seasons in a row...the man was beast. some claim he was not good on the road but he actually had a higher BA at yankee stadium than at fenway..some say he was not fast..30 triples over 2 seasons..NUFF SAID!!

Congrats to Rice. But aside from his MVP year, he wasn't even the best player on his team (Lynn, Evans (whose number should have been retired before Rice's), Clemens, Fisk, Yaz (in the 70's) and Boggs were better. Not to mention they were the reason he got so much MVP consideration (RBI).

Dude, all you have to do is read his HOF plaque to understand that your comment is completely misguided. Fred Lynn was better than Jim Rice? The lifetime numbers don't say so. And before you mention Lynn's injuries, longevity is a part of one's greatness. All the players you mention benefited from having one another in the lineup. Nobody was a more complete hitter from 1977 to 1986. Period. You can look it up.
