jummy jummy i have an old VHS video back in 80's of these racers... think it must have some value :P shame that so many drivers died on thease races... Like henri toivonen drove his lancia delta s4 into guardrail in rally of portugal in ss tour de corse ... rip toivonen and his co pilot sergio cresto... maby cause was that henri had high temperature fever little over 40 degrees celcius... last replics "ei tällästä kilpailua voi ajaa... käy kunnon päälle eikä piisaa aivot tähän touhuun"

Group B was the most powerfull rally series ever!

The cars had more power than todays F1 cars , more hate in there exhauste sound than anyting befor and there were real champs like walter röhrl

Just to add something to TTooniii's coments. It was cancelled (in the 80's I suppose) because it was considered too dangerous. Big crashes and deaths were not a complete surprise in Group B.

yo pienso que si el publico se colocara de otra forma y se limitara algo los caballos o la cilindrada, no como en f1 que van a acabar por poner monomarca, monomotor, mononeumatico. van a acabar con ella, pero el rally si que podrian volver a hacerlo. y sino que se junten un grupo de pilotos al margen de la fia. que les den.  y ya veriais como iba a ir el publico, y seria mucho mas emocionante. que se reservaran unos tramos y se hicieran unas pruebas en ellos con coches preparados.

Yes they could...but one thing i'm still amazed is that even tough we are going trough this economic crysis, WSBK (World Superbikes Championship) has never got so many constructors envolved (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Ducati, Aprilia rejoined and BMW joined the championship for the first time =O

The Group B was started in 1983. The manufacters champions was are Lancia 037, Audi Quattro and Peugeot 205 T16 (2 times), the drives champions was are Mikkola (Audi), Blomqvist (Audi), Salonen (Peugeot) and Kankkunen (Peugeot)

Audi had the option to put in the PDK-Gearbox which was first used by Porsche in some races with the 956/962. Audi had two cars with the PDK Gearbox - They started in Finland 1985 Blomqvist, Semperit Austria 85 Röhrl, RAC 1985 Röhrl. The PDK Gearbox was at the beginning a real problem for the Co-drivers cause the gear changes were so fast that they couldnt navigate like they were used to.

They should introduce a Historic class for manufacturers into the current WRC lineup, now that crowd control and car safety has improved they wudnt be as dangerous. Plus it would be brilliant to get Audi and Lancia back into world rally.

I agree, group B should be brought to life again, or maybe FIA could make at least a rally class close to what group B was back in the 80's =)

We want powerfull cars like the 205 T16, S1, S4, 6R4, 037 and the 5 Maxi Turbo back on the stages cause that's where they belong!!!

But altough it's a good idea, i honestly find it hard for FIA wanting to re-introduce group B again, cause they care too much about safety...even F1 is a proof of that, 2009 cars look nothing like the 2008 cars :(

Group B had few restrictions on technology, design and the number of cars required for homologation to compete (only 200).Weight was kept as low as possible, high-tech materials were permitted, and there were no restrictions on boost, which turned out to mean almost unlimited power. The category was aimed at car manufacturers by promising outright race victories and the subsequent publicity opportunities without the need for an existing production model.

Today WRC have 34mm resctrictor plate so the cars will only output 320BHP, 1200kgs Group B Audi S1 600BHP, 1100kgs, Twinturbo Peugeot 205 T16 550BHP, 920kgs, Single F1 turbo Ford RS200 450BHP, 980kgs, Single T3 Garrett Turbo Austin Rover 6R4 410BHP, 1000kgs, V6 engine Lancia S4 Delta 600BHP, 890kgs, Turbo & Supercharged engine to try minimize the turbo lag

it was not intended to let blomqvist outside, just couldn't mention all of them...the gods of rallying. now, a small "correction": blomqvist was not only audi's best driver; try to imagine makkinen without electronics, relative to blomqvist. what do you think? blomqvist was one of the best from his colleagues. and what colleagues did he had!
