I would rather have a squad of infantry than a super high-tech robot with limited capabilities. The cost of training and kitting out a G.I. is nowhere near the cost of researching and building a robot, and remember for every robot you need a highly trained person operating that robot who is paid a lot more than your average grunt that's for sure.

If America was in a real war against a real army, those little RC robots on tracks with a small gun attached would be useless. They would cost so much to produce and replace and their effectiveness compared to a real soldier is very limited. I very much doubt we will see them in enough numbers to actually make a difference. Fair enough they are safer for the soldiers and operators, but in a real war soldiers are more expendable than most people think.

My concern regarding the "active denial" system is that it seems more likely to be used to force civil obedience. This seems like an ideal tool to break up unwanted gatherings of people. If systems like this aren't currently in use in the US, it's probably coming. As a victim you'd likely have no proof that you were attacked.
