  • NAOOOO..........TELL US A STOOOOORRY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • "I want another clean cup. Everyone... MOVE!"

  • Best version of Alice to date.

  • Johnny Depp? HA! Martin Short IS the mad hatter!

  • @McFlyLover92 Amen the that!

  • "DISGRACEFUL!"

  • Alice: I don't think I like this tea party as much as I THOUGHT I would!

Hatter: Then you shouldn't talk. Just hum. Just because we know you socially Alice, that DOESN'T mean we're going to introduce you to our friends.

    HAHAHAHAHA best comeback evahhhh!!

  • Uh . . . does anyone else want that freaky-ass teapot organ?

  • LUV IT:)

  • Dormy's treacle story will sell more copies than the bible!!

  • Love this version of the mad tea party!!! This hatter is the best!

One minor quibble would be the lines: "But that would have made them ill!" "It did; it made them VERY ill." There's a reason it actually went like this: "They'd have been ill." "So they were; VERY ill." It has a double meaning - treacle is also an archaic term meaning an antidote to poison, and a "treacle well" was one with healing properties.

  • When the hatter fell off the table, Alice looked like "Alright, when is he gonna get up?"

  • twinkle twinkle, twinkle twinkle little bee, twinkle twinkle

    lol ;)

  • martin short=best mad hatter EVER <3

  • Lol, he's mudering the tune, off with his head.

  • All of the actors in this scene are PERFECT for the characters! I love this film. Spread the love for the narcoleptic dormouse! "No, thats my nose." He's so cute :) 5:41 - Mazel tov!!

  • All of the actors in this scene are PERFECT for the characters! I love this film. Spread the love for the narcoleptic dormouse! "No, thats my nose." He's so cute :)

  • please sir, i dont know crap about downloading movies on the internet... is there anyway that you can send me this movie via email or somthing?

  • When The Hatter says "Tell us a story!" in that ridiculous voice and scrunches his face, I actually laughed.

  • "Officer, these men are criminals."

    "Who's got his ear trumpet!"

Proof that this is the better hatter. Tim Burton couldn't do the jokes right.

  • i done this once on a table when i as drunk the reactions werent to great

  • HAHAHA VERY FUNNY

AND I AM NOT BEING SARCASTIC

  • clean cup, clean cup!!

  • Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter was weird without being funny; well acted, yes, but almost ultra weird, sort of like his version of Willy Wonka. Martin Short's Mad Hatter was wacky, but the character gave you a sore stomach from laughing so hard. He was hilarious. This is Martin Short at his very best.

  • @MrQuinceJam also, he actually ACTS like the Mad Hatter.

  • ' you can draw water out of a waterwell can't you? ''good one hatty ,good one !!!'' hahaha :-)

  • what the heck?!

  • Tell us a story! :D

  • "I say, I say, I say."

"HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT THE SONG WITH I SAY, I SAY, I SAY?!"

  • @nikkigirl822 its "I say, I say, I said"

  • hahah i rmeember this movie!! i lovedd it as a kid!

  • God Burton's Alice sucked balls. Just overall boring and not original.

  • This Alice in wonderland is much better than Tim Burton´s one. His film is nice, full of amazing special effects, but.... empty. And boring.

  • @majvald that's exactly how i felt. this version is the most perfect version of Lewis Carrols story

  • Martin Short may not be as "zomg hawt" as Johnny Depp, but at least his rendition of the Hatter is actually comparible to the book.

  • all the versions of alice with people are fucked up I would be like "oh yeah you fuckers wanna play psycho well double psycho for you fuckers" and i would go medieval on their asses killing and ripping the living flesh out of everyone.

  • They're both mad! XD

  • What is this garbage any1 who watched this trash was on some serious drugs. this is sooooooooooooooo bad

  • it is better then alice in wonderland in 2010

  • ''Kindly leave the stage by the red door! Theres a 50 foot drop on the other side.''

    Gold. X3

And btw, TB's version was ok. But no matter what, nothing is gonna stop those of this generation who saw it from calling it the best

  • This was my favorite of all of the Alice. Dreamchild is second =)

  • Tim Burton blows.

  • that just looks too freaky too freaky and weird and a musical tea pot [shakes]

  • Comment removed

  • @yaoiobsetion hes not MEANT to be handsome, have you even read the original story? I think not.

  • Mentioning the queen this early in the movie... Hmm. I haven't seen this version beyond this scene. Does this actually have a legit STORY to it?

  • @Bobzeaux yes

  • 5:20 lol!!!!!!!

  • This is amazing :]

  • That rabbit scares the shit outta me

  • You can make this movie into a drinking game so easily. Drink anytime the music recital is mentioned, drink anytime there's a prat fall (beware the scenes with the white rabbit and knight), and drink anytime someone is chewing the scenery (every single scene).

  • oh....this movie is really weird!!!X( but i can't stop watching this!!!!

  • I knew a man with a wooden leg, he had a good sense of humor. :)

  • Does Doremouse even know whats going on?

  • Haha, awesome Hatter! The characters in this version are, I believe, the closest to those in the book. With the exception of Alice...I'm not crazy about her in this one.

  • @kaulitzgil - Def agree with you. The girl who played Alice was very wooden/dull. If it was a better actress, I would have liked the movie more.

  • treakle

  • Best Hatter...right there..i know....outrageous!!!

  • I think this Mad Tea Party version would be Tenniel's most favourite because the characters look and behave like those of his illustrations...

  • tim burton should do us all a favour and stop making movies now.

  • This looks like the current Tea Party's that are going on across the nation. Totally maaaadd.

  • "Try another song!"

    ... "We're desperate men!"

Love this movie so much more than Burton's.

    I say, I say, I say!

  • i say i say i say

  • ok question fan-made or what? year? I don't care either way, it made me laugh I love it. Hare is me and me is Hare, if your not Hatter who art thee? :)

  • Yeah, Martin Short is simply born to play the Mad Hatter. It's a real shame that Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland overshadowed this movie. Cause although I like Batman Returns, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands etc... Burton's Alice in Wonderland sucked ass.

  • @LightStijn That depends how you would prefer to see the mad hatter. In this movie, he's obviously just mad, just like in the original book. However, In the 2010 remake, he's just a bit more reasonable, although he's indeed mad sometimes. I thought Depp's version was better than this, but that's just my opinion

  • @lovetohate12 Well, his name is the MAD Hatter, so yes: I expect him to be extremely mad. And Martin Short also resembles the Mad Hatter from the old Alice in Wonderland illustrations most.

Do you prefer Johnny Depp's version for the reason you described, or are you just a Depp lover?

  • @LightStijn Actually, yes, I am what you here call a "depp lover", but i think that he plays the mad hatter in a more "real-life like", but still mad and yes, this actor looks a lot more cartoony, but in movies that aren't cartoon, human characters are meant to be looking like persons, at least i think so.

  • @lovetohate12 Nah, I don't believe your arguments. You're just a Depp-lover! It's as simply as that! lol

  • @LightStijn Of course you don't believe my arguments, that would be the same as admitting you were wrong. As stubborn as you seem, I don't think you could do such a thing, no matter how hard you try. No, I agree, it is much easier for you to stay to claiming that I am a "depp lover".

  • @LightStijn Of course you don't, that would be the same as admitting you were wrong. As stubborn as you seem to me, I don't think you could do such a thing, no matter how hard you try. No, I agree, it is much easier to stick to the explanation that I am just a "depp lover".

  • @lovetohate12 Lol. Depp-lover!

  • @LightStijn Well, then, can you tell me why you ain´t a "Short-lover" and why your arguments should be trusted? except that you were here first, of course

  • @lovetohate12 I am all man as I am no man, and therefor I am a God.

Ha ha, sorry. I don't know. It's just a gut feeling, I guess. I just believe Martin Short is a better Hatter. He's got the looks. He's got the madness. That's all there is about the Mad Hatter.

Sure, Johnny Depp is a good actor, but he's simply not the Mad Hatter. If you've read the original Alice in Wonderland novels, you should realize that. But well, I guess it's not Depp's fault then, but Burton's.

  • @lovetohate12 And Lewis Carroll once said that Alice in Wonderland was above all about the difference between sense and nonsense. Something the Mad Hatter is supposed to represent. Depp's Hatter never really shows any link to that queer difference. He's just some hero-like dude. A white knight in shiny armor type of guy. But with red hair.

  • @lovetohate12 its not supposed to be real life it's WONDERLAND, surreal and WEIRD

  • @ShadowFox909

Still, I think it's easier to relate to people acting and halfways looking like people, and (to me, at least) that makes the movie experience a better and more interesting one.

  • MORE TEA !! MORE TEA !!

  • Hmm....... Personally, I like Tim burtons better.

  • @Spritesinthehouse Burtons movie had no flavor. characters weren't what they were supposed to be.

  • this version is the best.the mad hatter is briliant with his irritant funny behaviour.

  • LOVE this film!

but it's better in german - not just because I'm german, it's because it sounds better, really. .__.

  • @NanaMorning ,

    please stop .

in germany they rape movies by putting german language into american movies.that's totally awful.

  • @555Nato

    eehm, sorry?

    no, they does NOT.

and .. I just said, that I (!) think, the german one is better.

I have the original buy dvd, so.. it's okay.

  • @NanaMorning ,this one is better, than what ,you say a german version?what's that.this german version.the same mobvie but in german laguage?thats not great.and yes they do put german over american language in germany.Rocky Balboa in German.what a joke.hee du Rocky wie gehst?whie ein misst...

  • @NanaMorning ,because i know you on youtube Nana it doesnt mean I'm going to introduce you to my friends ;-P

  • @NanaMorning ,they got some cinema's in Germany where the have American movies in American language.but mostly they put German voices over the original sound.very sad.

it is like raping the movie.

  • @555Nato

    NOT ALL CINEMAS!

Not the cinemas that I know!

it's like I would say, all americans are fat.

    but they aren't.!

  • @NanaMorning ,haha ok easy.not all cinema's .dont orry .i admit that you know.;-)

not all americans are fat,no.but too many are though

  • @NanaMorning ,but why do you mention that americans are fat?it's like the old Roman saying ,one who defends himself without being accused has something to hide....

  • @555Nato

    stop, stop, stop!

    I didn't say, it's my mind.

    I said I COULD SAY ..

but I don't think this way.

I know a lot of really beautys who come from american.

    I'm jealous. :/

  • @NanaMorning ,dont worry ,i was just kidding, like the mad hatter does.

  • Tim Burton's sucked.

  • we are all performers here!! lol i love how he said that rofl

  • Tim Burton's version had astory that had nothing to do with the actual book. Why there was a beyond good & evil battle I'll never understand.

  • @jspanky54 Tim Burton's version took a lot of elements from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (And What Alice Found There) and created his own story of it. I think he did a great job with it.

The first book had the deck of cards with the Queen of Hearts, the second had the game of chess with the White Queen. I thought it was nice how he combined that into a fight that included the Jabberwocky.

  • haha I love this movie! x3

  • The hare is so trippy... with human hands..

  • How dare you interrupt my song with "i say i say"

That's one of the funny line

  • I always loved this version xD The mad hatter is so crazy I love him <3

  • LOL at 1:12 , his mischievous grin when he's back with the tune!

  • MARTIN IS THE PERFECT MAD HATTER

    ;) !!

  • he's murdering the tune

    off with his head

  • @jako023 haha off with his head

  • Martin Short in this movie looks SO much like John Tenniel's original Mad Hatter illustrations!

  • i think martin short is the best mad hatter:)

  • martin short was so good as the mad hatter, johnny depp is so weird, at least martin was mad

  • how old is this movie cuz hese effects are AMAZING!

  • 1999!

  • Martin Short is such a great Hatter^^ Hilarious!

  • i loved tim burtons take on thsi film but i think this film captures more of the wacky characters the mad hatter is really good in this film

  • Marty Short's Mad Hatter is pretty damn close to the cartoon one.

  • @bluewhiting do you mean closer to the disney cartoon, or the john tenniel illustrations from the original book?

  • @bluewhiting yeah, he is, and it's good, but I like depp's better

  • That was Master Splinter when he was just a baby doormouse.

  • lmao! xD

  • All together now! Twinkle twinkle little bat! How I wonder what you're at!

  • this is so funny, because my friend alex is scarred because my teacher showed us this and now she fears the "drunk bunny"

    I LOVE THIS PART!

  • I prefer this one to Tim Burton's.

  • Yes, absolutely. Me too.

  • I definitely agree.

  • @taylorphoe I like both versions :)

but I like this one better in the way that this version represends the book in a better more absurd way.

But Im a fan of burtons work as well :)

  • @taylorphoe Definitely!

  • @taylorphoe ...You do realize that Tim Burtons was ment to function as a sequel to the origonal story, don't you?

  • @Boonedaba Of course.

  • @Boonedaba that doesn't stop it from sucking

  • @ShadowFox909 I like Tim Burton's sequel, but I must tell you, I do prefer this version over all others.

  • Me too. And I'm a die-hard Tim Burton fan.

  • @taylorphoe thumbs up if u agree to this /\ comment :D

  • I sometimes randomly quote from this movie:

like today: " I shook so much my hat fell off"

    "ah, if we had."

and the twinkle little bat song!

I also like the beautiful soup song later on in this movie.

  • @Eowynnofrohan : omg, i do the same :)))

  • Awesome! :) I love this movie.

  • Man I love the 0:10 when he say: AND NOW! hahahahaha

  • this movie i think is the best out the alice movies i hope the new is just as good AUNTIE'S WOODEN LEG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is my favorite film version. To me it captured the "feel" of the book very well. I think Disney's was too light and the 1933 version was deliberatley alienating

  • omg i saw this movie when i was a kid. :o

  • Martin Short looks and acts exactly like the Hatter in the book.

  • what alice in wonderland is this? this is the first movie we had in VCD!

  • you butt!!! >:(

  • @GirGirlMary I'm sorry, are you British? No. Apologize at once!

  • This (aside from 1951) is THE closest to the book. Anyone who thinks this one was terrible is saying the book is terrible. Lunchboxlandlol or people with his opinion don't know what they're talking about. It desereves more credit! And that's the truth!

  • @EsquireSquiggle I'm going to have to agree with you on that one. Being British, I will state as a a fact that when this film aired on television, we prefferred this one over the Disney film. We all loved it. Not to mention, this won four major awards. If Mr. Dogeson were alive today, he would say "This is exactly what I was thinking of." I'm with you Esquire.

  • OFF with his hat! XD

  • we're all just terribly MAD!!!

  • i say i say i say!

  • how dare you interupt my song with i say i say i say!

  • best one.

  • lmfao didnt realize his giggle ahahahahaha

  • lol i love when martin short laughs at 3:38 lmfao

  • This Alice in wonderland was Terrible!!!!!! But this part is Funny haha idk y but the mad hatter looks like clay aiken hahaha

  • Martin Short is my favorite Hatter so far next to the Andrew Lee Potts one :D

Lol i love how he says"NOW" in the beginning!!

  • when was this made?

  • @Evaseven 1999.

  • big cup of tea

  • does anyone else notice the Mad Hatter's giggle at 3:39? so funny!

  • @Scar2401 watched it again haha never noticed it because it's so quiet but hilarious!!

  • When I saw this movie on T.V., the part where "Dormy" tells a story was cut.

  • They all seem to be so big headed in this scene :D

  • Where is part 1?

  • :-)

  • 1:42 Epic key change

  • stop him, he's going to sing!

  • But he only stops time at tea time.

So it's always tea time here?

    TELL US A STORY!!!!!

    lol

  • What happened to part one?

  • @HyaenusDominae it got its head cut off.

  • this tea party scene is briliant.i love it.very funny .

  • Great tea party! It has lots of laughs, like the fifty story drop, when the hare pulled the lever and the mad hatter fell, and the story! I love the cartoon version and the 1990's version of ailce in wonderland

  • Hatter: "How dare you interupt my song with 'I say I say I say?!"

Hare: "I say I say I say, in this world, it's not what you know, but who you know!"

Hatter: "Well I don't know either one of them!"

Lol, best part of the whole movie!

  • Lyrics, yes?

I know all of it other than the part after he says "We'll paint it red and call it Fred". Anyone know? (Please? ^_^)

  • @cupcakesistheshit

That line goes, "We'll paint it red and call it Fred or Ned or Ted".

  • Thank you! (:

  • this was one of the most craziest messed up parts in the movie, that i really never understood(or still dont understand) but i LOVE the background..its so PRETTYY!

  • ITS DEBBIE! :]
