i thing just put the cookie on her mouth and still try to keep on her mouth with your hand and during the time tell her no eating! and later OK. If she (he) will want to eat, tell her you can´t do that. If you will train every day, she will able to do that soon. Our sheltie can play "dead dog" :D it,s really funny.

Our sheltie had cancer for 2 years before he died. He lived 15 years. Sorry to hear about your sheltie. The vet said sheltie's are well known for having cancer when they get older.

in reply to shedding questions - dogs with long coats need to be brushed once a day. You need to use a pin brush, rake, coat king and comb.

Wowzer! My sheltie knows sit, down, crawl, and say hello where he gives you his paw, but i don't think he can learn this trick. VERY GOOD. My sheltie Zeus has the attention span of a squirrel sometimes! But they are sooooo cute!

my 1 year old sheltie is way to spazzed out for me to try teaching him this.

I don't know where he gets all the energy from, we run around at least 3 times a day at least half an hour each time.

He fetches though, sits, lies down, gives you his paw (enthusiastically), comes if you sound serious, and speaks if you really pry at him.

we're working on roll over. i hope to get him to be as patient as your dog one day.

As for the shedding question, they shed A LOT. I think it is suggested to brush them once a week. This sheltie looks so much like my sweet little sheltie I used to have. They really are great dogs (yes, if you can take all the hair).

Sometimes the Sheltie gives this look like we've just beat it up and has those puppy dog eyes and ears down and then one snap and their happy go lucky. I never did this trick with ours but I can tell it's well trained. Nice breed!
