@FuPukeater No, I don't act like the Westboro Baptist Church at all. Loudly disrupting a peaceful and benign gathering is off the table. Doubly so when shattered emotions are on the line.
I'd say it doesn't matter much whether the war was moral or not to the child. From her frame, daddy is never coming home again. His life had a great deal of meaning to the girl and his family. I don't know where this "life is meaningless" concept comes from. It's a horrible misunderstanding.
@FuPukeater I mean ... I tell the child that her father was a sinner so god killed him...and he will kill her as well if she ever has naughty thoughts...and she is a whore and a dirty little slutmonkey who should cover herself and submit completely to her man...she must pray for forgiveness 21 hours a day lest she be smote by the hand of Allah.
@Larian1975 If you were to tell her things that had hate with no context you would be contrary to any religion Im aware of. If you do the same to yourself I feel sorry for you.
Awe = fearful reverence. I got that from an abridged dictionary a long time ago and thought it was a cool definition. If awe and wonder do it for you all power to you. That is a lot different from being a theist. I'll never try to push my beliefs on another and can only describe being submissive to a higher power as the same feeling one has for their children. Unconditional love. I hope somehow someday you can find it.
@FuPukeater I've not claimed to be a theist for a long time. Unless that was a typographical error, in which case you could hardly be more wrong.
Your hope that I could somehow learn to love one day if I'm lucky ... just wow. That is the single most snotty and rude thing anyone has said to me this year. Was that your idea of a friendly remark? You know, with love and stuff?
If you have something worthwhile to say, I suggest you say it. Otherwise, please go troll somewhere else.
@FuPukeater I'll have you recall that you began this exchange with sarcastic smart-assery. That's why my first impression of you is one of a sarcastic smart-ass.
Specifically, you make a *lot* of assumptions about me personally without a single fact to stand on. Further, I get the impression that you believe yourself superior to me in some absolute way. Going on to call me an idiot just reinforces that first impression.
In summary, you've been a dick in every communication we've had.
Why do you suggest that morality is not self-sustaining?
Because people change so the morals will forever be changing yes morality will be self sustaining for the individual but how can we collectively share morals over time without a universal being approving and asserting them.
On what grounds do you assert that moral behavior based on human empathy cannot endure the test of time?
because empathetic relations are different for us all and they change dramatically.
Well, why would a universal being have to approve and assert morals? Occam's Razor.
* Moral behavior exists.
* The behavior we define as moral can be explained by empathy.
* Empathy is a common human trait.
* There are good evolutionary reasons why empathy would arise - it is more likely that a group of organisms with empathy for one another will survive to have offspring by cooperating.
Of course there are outliers, but we tend to lock those people up. because they're dangerous.
I assert that empathic behavior is not learned. It is instinctual. Our very DNA, our genes, determine that we have empathy for fellow human beings.

"An american response and typically western, THINK MORE BROAD"
Okay, we fucking shoot them in the street like they do in China. Or we behead them or stone them to death like in the middle east. Is that broad enough for you? They are disposed of; removed from society in all cases.
Okay this arguement discussion seems to bee running dry plus we are miles off the original point but if you would like to discuss something else, I had a thought the other day and I would like to discuss it with a strong minded evolutionist who believes we evolved from apes? do you consider yourself as this and would you like to discuss another matter?
I am of the persuasion that homo sapiens and the other great apes (and indeed all animal life on land) all evolved from, and can trace their lineage back to, a single common ancestor. However, I would not say that humans evolved from apes. If this qualifies, then I would be delighted to discuss another topic.
Yes I agree with the common ancestor but is there a particular ape (alive today) which evolutions theory claims we evolved from? or an ape which is closer to the common ancestor than us and other apes?
I don't think that there is an ape alive today that it can be said homo evolved from. To my best knowledge, human ancestry diverged from that of the other apes around 2 million years ago (US million, not English million) after branching off from australopithecines. The closest ape relative is the chimpanzee.
I can only answer this in the most general of terms, but according to evolutionary theory, speciation only occurs when there is genetic drift and selection pressure. Presumably there was a fairly common genetic mutation in the Australopithecine population, and some sort of isolation of a segment of this population with the mutation occurred. Then environmental pressures would've had to come into play to select for Homo precursors. This is what I would expect to find evidence for if it exists.
Well, luckily nature has already performed the experiment for us in the case of the tube mosquitoes under London. But yes, we have done this rather involuntarily as we use drugs to fight disease.
Penicillin was, at one time, the "miracle drug." But due to overuse and poor follow up, resistant strains of germs and bacteria developed which could survive exposure. Now, the drug is largely useless, and it's why the doctor tells you to take ALL of your prescription, even after you're feeling better.
@Bmajor87 specifically drift means populations are losing genes due to lack of gene flow 9which maintains genetic diversity) or migration between adjacent populations which have barriers to this migration from chance ecological or geographical events..natural disasters, mountains, deforstation, urban sprawl etc..cheetahs are a good example of this..they only have 1-500k gene diff's between 2 individuals vs humans that have about 10-12million gene diff's...I'm a creationist btw
*Athiesm will not and cannot replace Religion in any civilisation throughout the world.*
Not so. Sweden comes to mind, as does France. Religion was mandatory a couple of hundred years ago, and now nonbelief is the majority opinion.
I don't make my videos, (when I actually make them), to convert anyone to anything. I'm more interested in letting those who don't believe know that they're not by themselves.
Tell me, do you consider Christianity to be "just another belief system" as well?
Yes I see it as just another belief system although I am highly interested in ancient greece and it was my erudition in this subject which proved to me that religous beliefs are created for moral control.
The religion of one age is the literary entertainment of the next.
But still we need these moral restraints one way or another and that is one thing athiesm doesnt have, But still I remain agnostic for i cannot claim that there is or isnt a creator
You appear to be suggesting something very similar to the notion that morality requires religion. I don't believe this to be the case. I argue that empathy is the foundation for all morality, which is, in the vast majority of the population, an inborn trait. Morality follows from empathy. However I readily agree that religion imposes restraints on the populace.
I say that the existence of a creator (especially the Christian version) is so improbable that we might as well say there is none.
Yes I agree that empathy should be the foundation for all morality.
But how can this stand the test of time i am no conservatist but sometimes i do think the only way to change would be to stop changing.
I am not concerned with the past the future worries me and if you say there would be no future without the past your right but the past is a lot less important.
Please look at my videos they contain my perspective, please tell me what you think and whether you agree with them or not.
What you propose is interesting. But why can morality not enjoy longevity on its own? From my frame of reference, it would seem that morality has evolved and grown stronger since the days of the Mesopotamians, not less so. This appears to be a continuous process, and religions seem to actively retard this process more often than not. Thus, it would seem that morality has matured not because, but rather in spite of, religious edicts.
"I am merely suggesting that morality requires more than morality to last. "
"...empathy should be the foundation for all morality.
But how can this stand the test of time...?"
Why do you suggest that morality is not self-sustaining? On what grounds do you assert that moral behavior based on human empathy cannot endure the test of time?
I believe that the past looks like the future. Moral behavior *has* endured the test of time, and in the face of strong opposition to boot. The trend is that we are approaching (asymptotically) a Utopian ideal of equality by frowning upon and dispensing with human rights violations as being okay or deserved. This trend follows through all of human history: the quality of life improves, people treat each other better, quality of life improves again... etc.
Was that a rant, or did you want any of those questions actually answered? I've got 500 characters at a time, and I can't cope with a stream of consciousness in this format; it would require an essay.
We are never absolutely certain that we have the truth or the best line on how to live. We have to give up hope of certainty because we're fallible creatures. We are stuck with hypotheses, beliefs, theories, and standards we have not yet found unsatisfactory. (Continued)
We go with what we've got until we find it no longer works for us. Think about the law; it only requires that we prove a case beyond any reasonable doubt. And sometimes, when we have done that, we find out later that we made a mistake. But we may still have done our best at the time.
In short, we as human beings are improving our condition to be more amenable to us. We are judging human rights, and we are worthy to say this is okay.
I see nothing wrong with using law as an example of human fallibility.
Do you agree liberation deserves deliberation?
Insofar as I understand the question, no.
What should be the penalty for murder?
It depends on the circumstances and reasons. Was it premeditated, or was it an act of self defense? Did the perpetrator plot the killing for years beforehand, or was the whole thing an accident? Did the killer not have a choice?
Do you consider yourself an international citizen?
Okay that was the previous discussion which ended but no worries we can further discuss if you want to after you we've discussed current discussion i.e below this message
what? lol. hey im catholic, dont practice, dont give a shit bout the religion, but its nice to think about it. people who practice religion, orthodox, idiots making videos like this, (fatasses) people trolling this video, replying to this comment. GET A FUCKING LIFE, GO OUTSIDE, DL CSS AND FUCKING SHOOT SOME SAND NIGGERS IN THE HEAD.. FUCK
So should we get a life, go outside, or play Counter Strike all day? I require clarification because, as you've noted, I am both a fatass and an idiot, and therefore require special assistance in matters such as these.
I support Richard Dawkins's view that atheists should be encouraged to "stand up and be counted" so that our numbers can fairly influence government and the media.
(In my case, as a result I have published more than 20 web pages on the topic at the link in my channel).
I live in the UK, where the figures are not as bad as the US!
Keep up the good work. You may not convert many older people, but the next generation will grow up knowing that atheism exists and is respectable.
Of course you're not alone. You've said exactly what I feel. Exactly.
We are not alone. We are far greater than "15 percent." We see the naked flesh of the emperor, and so do "they."
It is time--long, long over due--for a paradigm shift: A shift to reason and honesty; a shift away from primitive superstition. I dearly hope that the shift is occurring. I hope that our voices--our willingness to speak obvious, but taboo truths--is an indication that the shift is on.
Delusions of grandeur displayed beautifully...

I don't make my videos, (when I actually make them), to convert anyone to anything. I'm more interested in letting those who don't believe know that they're not by themselves.
Tell me, do you consider Christianity to be "just another belief system" as well?
Larian1975 2 years ago

Larian1975 2 years ago
Yes I agree that empathy should be the foundation for all morality.
But how can this stand the test of time i am no conservatist but sometimes i do think the only way to change would be to stop changing.
I am not concerned with the past the future worries me and if you say there would be no future without the past your right but the past is a lot less important.
Please look at my videos they contain my perspective, please tell me what you think and whether you agree with them or not.
Bmajor87 2 years ago
No i am not suggesting that morality requires religion. I am merely suggesting that morality requires more than morality to last.
Bmajor87 2 years ago
What you propose is interesting. But why can morality not enjoy longevity on its own? From my frame of reference, it would seem that morality has evolved and grown stronger since the days of the Mesopotamians, not less so. This appears to be a continuous process, and religions seem to actively retard this process more often than not. Thus, it would seem that morality has matured not because, but rather in spite of, religious edicts.
So I put it to you: Why do you say this?
Larian1975 2 years ago
Why do you say this?
Say what exactly?
Bmajor87 2 years ago
"I am merely suggesting that morality requires more than morality to last. "
"...empathy should be the foundation for all morality.
But how can this stand the test of time...?"
Why do you suggest that morality is not self-sustaining? On what grounds do you assert that moral behavior based on human empathy cannot endure the test of time?
Larian1975 2 years ago
Morality needs an allegory but one which we will not question and one which will be forever. do you believe one allegory of the such exists?
or what solution would you suggest?
I dont want absolution i want an absolute solution
Bmajor87 2 years ago
I believe that the past looks like the future. Moral behavior *has* endured the test of time, and in the face of strong opposition to boot. The trend is that we are approaching (asymptotically) a Utopian ideal of equality by frowning upon and dispensing with human rights violations as being okay or deserved. This trend follows through all of human history: the quality of life improves, people treat each other better, quality of life improves again... etc.
That's around 6000 years of data.
Larian1975 2 years ago
And who is creaing this utopia?
Who is judging human rights?
Who is worthy to say thats okay or not?
In your opinion what should be the punishment for murder?
And try and step out of our western civilisation and present an universal solution and case.
Who is to say our quality of life is improving?
Bmajor87 2 years ago

Larian1975 2 years ago
I did expect answers but i understand that you cannot just answer them in this format,
But anyway i think your perspective is skewed generally americans are.
Everyone takes it to the court of law scenario religous or not but it is such a bad example. GREAT questions are more important than someones life.
but please answer these three for me.
Do you agree liberation deserves deliberation?
What should be the penalty for murder?
Do you consider yourself an international citizen?
Bmajor87 2 years ago
I see nothing wrong with using law as an example of human fallibility.
Do you agree liberation deserves deliberation?
Insofar as I understand the question, no.
What should be the penalty for murder?
It depends on the circumstances and reasons. Was it premeditated, or was it an act of self defense? Did the perpetrator plot the killing for years beforehand, or was the whole thing an accident? Did the killer not have a choice?
Do you consider yourself an international citizen?
Yes.

Okay that was the previous discussion which ended but no worries we can further discuss if you want to after you we've discussed current discussion i.e below this message

Only time will tell.
