I hate how they seem to define 100% free as simply anti-government. There is more to freedom then being against government. It is about opposing all manifestations of authority, domination and hierarchy. I am getting a little tired of this thin libertarian rhetoric.
Yeah its not that simple to just say "the biggest impediment to our freedom is the government". I feel that is too broad of a statement. While I am Libertarian myself, I think saying things like that is very disrespectful to men and women who serve this country. Especially those in FBI or local government, they are not politicians with agendas. Most of them are just trying to do their jobs and keep us safe from the real dangers to our individual liberties.
yea... I don't really care if I am disrespectful to people who don't deserve respect. Respect is about recognizing and honoring virtues you see in other people. I don't know of any virtuous military, police or government officials, but I do know that unvirtuous acts is pretty much part of their job. My point was that a lot of voluntaryists take a narrow view of liberty. You don't even seem like a voluntaryist, so I would have a different critique for you.
Those well intentioned government bureaucrats and their lackeys are the real danger to individual liberty because they seem to think they can use violence and theft legitimately.
And thanks to everyone for their interest. You folks in MS -- we're still flushing out the itinerary but it may very well be possible for us to head down your way in mid-May. Stay tuned...
