The wings on the back of the plane flip up which causes drag and slows down the aircraft and of course there is little if any heat at reentry. This is what Rutan calls "feathered configuration".

Also because of the pressurized cabin, spacesuits are also not needed.

...oh yeah, you can use your RCS thrusters if you get into a spin like that before apogee. I usually tap the Kill Rot and then put the feather up when the dynamic pressure reaches nearly zero (around 90km or so)

Well, yeah I understand that you had the view set up for a fly-by...and even with the feather, SS1 still re-enters at about Mach 2. But what I mean is just the way it was flipping a lot. There is a little bit of side to side rocking when SS1 re-enters, but it looked exaggerated in your video.

I'm not sure why it swings around like that during re-entry, the real ship does the same thing. My guess is that if the ship isn't perfectly level when it hits the atmosphere, the drag on the feather isn't balanced so it starts swinging left and right because the aerodynamic drag isn't balanced on each wing. The ship will level itself, but it swings a little.
