The video is nice and the car really is awesome, however it would be nice to include details, who did it, when, for who, what engine, why was it made for?, etc, etc... Talented craftsman cannot be found round the corner and it would be nice to make them known
Hi , hcollette , The car was built for Tom Wheatcroft, the owner of Donnington race track. the engine was built by Bentley Engineering, axles, gearbox, brakes etc, by Brineton Engineering. The body was made and painted by a team of 10 people at Ashton Keynes Vintage Restorations, Myself being the one who did the paintwork, along with all the electrics we also assembled the thousands of parts that make up the car and then road tested the car.
its not a good replica.. it's just a really really good replica.. but it's kind of sad.. to see this kind of cars as a replica car.. it doesnt have a chasis number or something like that.. it's just another clon
Hi, Yes a brand new exact replica engine was copied from an original Bugatti engine.the only exception was we used modern type pistons. the original engine was smartened up and stands by the car at Donnington motor museum.
Hi, The car was a one of, Although there was another chassis and ash body frame made in case there was a demand for another one. The cost of the project was about £1.6M when the car handed over to Tom Wheatcroft in 1995
Hi, zaragon59, Thanks, I found it, It looks as if the driver hasn't reset the choke settings from the starting position, In 1996 on its way back from Goodwood festival of Speed, it backfired through the carb and caught fire, burning the paintwork on two bonnet panels, Which I had to repaint. Its nice to see it being driven though and it bought back memories of fitting those roof windows another job I did. Thanks again for link, Regards, Brian.
Hi,zaragon59, Yes it was very gratifying to see the the car finished after all those months. The black smoke sounds like a carburation problem, I remember it had funny carburetor system, Perhaps Tom wheatcrofts mechanics have been tinkering with it, I could not find the link you mentioned for youTube Regards, Brian
Hi Brian - I am sure you're right about the carb. That does make sense! To guide you on how to find the footage of the car in DK for the Royal wedding, try looking for/typing: Wedding of Prince Joachim & Miss Marie Cavallier (Part V) - this should lead you to the right place... it takes a couple of minutes before you see the Bugatti, but it's worth it!!! :-) All the best from CPH, -Z-
it's lovely - only wonder a little if the door-handles are correct? If you look at the other movies here, they are not similar to the one in the museum?? - Our Danish Prince Joachim and his new French bride had the pleasure of being transported in this beautiful replica from their wedding to their manor-house Schackenborg Castle. :-)
Hi, zaragon59, I not sure about the door handles, But I know people from A.K.V.R. did a lot of research and looked at most of the original cars.I was responsible for all paint work on the car, I remember sitting in the front passenger seat on its final road test in December 95, and coming back frozen.Sorry I cant be more helpful about the door handles. Regards Brian.
Hi Brian and thank you so much for taking the time to comment! What a thrill it must have been to follow that project and even to be close to that marvel of a car. I found this link on youTube where you can see the car in use one month ago. For some reason, it produced quite some black smoke from the exhaust. I'm sure there's been several options for the doorhandles, but they do look different from the one in the museum.
the best classic ever made and always will be

This is not a replica.
This is the EXACT SAME car that Wheatcroft has recreated down to the last nut, bolt and washer. It is identical in every single way.

Very beautiful. What lives under the hood? Was the entire engine also re-produced?

These are the original style handles that Ettore had installed on his.
Schlumpf changed them to the loop style for a more carriage look.

Thanks Gointran, I must admit I was starting to believe our research was wrong about the handles.Regards, Brian.
