  • I love you for doing this. I wish I could have you compose music for the soundtrack of this game I'm trying to make... but alas, I am poor.

  • Brilliant :) If only I could get away with playing that haha :)

  • Can I buy the sheet music?

  • Progressive rock meets holiday tunes. I need more of this.

  • Very very nice!

I had to post it on my facebook page.

And subscribed to your channel also.

    Merry Christmas fellow YouTuber!

RagJazzMonkey Tom in Kansas City, Missouri USA

  • My band director played this on our last day of school last friday and we all aplauded. This is awsome :-)

  • This is absolutely awesome. Sleigh Ride is my favorite Christmas song, would love to be able to get this sheet music if/when it becomes available.

  • it sounds like charlie brown

  • Somebody should redo leroy anderson's arrangement for this in 7/8. lol.

  • Awesome! I love 7.

  • 7/8 makes this so much more enjoyable to listen to!

  • sheet music. do want.

  • Pls - I would love to have the notes:-)

  • Cool !!!!!! I love it !!!!

  • Where can I find the notes? Beautiful arrangement and well performed

  • Counting is very easy: 1,2, 3++. Learning takes time!

  • This is literally unbelievable.

  • You see this is what happens when the left side of the sleigh is higher than the right side.

  • Cool!

  • Wonderful!

  • Now, I want to hear how Yanni would play it, he loves 7/8. LOL.

I enjoyed your arrangement, you're a very accomplished player. The arrangement that resonates in my headI is more syncompated, must be the Latin Jazz - you can take the boy out of Latin Jazz but.............. Keep up the good vibes!

  • best sleigh ride rendition ever. i love 7/8

  • Very enjoyable!!! Novelty with taste!

  • I call bogus on the beginning, how are you playing a six note chord while carrying that melodic line in the bottom hand?

  • @NumberNile Well, you have to play two notes with one finger. Likely, he plays the C and the D with his thumb.

  • @NumberNile That's right. "NaughtyBitsMusic" pegged it. If you look closely at the music, there's a small bracket over the C and D to be played together by the thumb.

Those players with an amputated finger on the right hand are out of luck.

  • @eidco ... Well now I feel really stupid :p

  • @NumberNile No,no...feel good about yourself. You can count notes on the page and on your hand. That puts you in the upper 10%!

  • @eidco Jeeze.. the most brilliant music could be posted on here and someone will find fault. Okay, if we're coming from negative, the worst thing I have to offer is that it sounds like Brubeck's "Blue Rondo Ala Turk". And the problem would be?

  • @NumberNile dude...... you need to learn some respect and know that just because you can't do something doesn't mean someone else can't . Have you ever played two keys with one finger? For real, grow up and wipe your tears away. :)

  • @leadhorn2 Yeah, man, I agree, asking a question about something I didn't understand is way too disrespectful for YouTube, man, I sure am sorry... -_-

  • Loved it! Will share it too! Thanks for creating this!

  • Thanks for this intelligent arrangement of a Christmas staple! It's the best thing I've heard this year and I'm heading to Amazon for the album. Keep up the great creative work!

  • Lee Tomboulian has been doing this for years.

  • AWESOME! Could listen all day. Plan to order your album right NOW!!

  • Absolutely amazing! Very unique arrangement.

  • AWESOME Arrangement, sir.

  • This will put me just a tad off for the rest of the day...but in a good way! Thanks.

  • Wow. I have to go practice, now. [...hangs head and slips out of computer room...]

  • Nice! Somehow, I'm reminded of Jimmy Webb.

  • I have to say, amazing. I've been playing piano my whole life, studied things like improv all the way to classical. Your are amazing, Keep up the great works. I've already bought some sheet music. I plan on trying to learn Sleigh Ride, it's not easy.but you really make it so effortless, your hands are so fluid. You should really tour. I am a big fan of Jim Brickman. You made me a big fan with your music. I am sooo buying your albums off of itunes and I am sharing our music with everone I know.

  • Bravissimo!

  • Hey, look what I just got from Alfred Publishing.

"Our piano editor has contacted John Eidsvoog to see if he is interested in having us publish his arrangement. Not sure what will happen but I’ll try to keep you updated as I get more information. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!" Please let us know if it gets published!

  • Just bought the album on Amazon. Do you have original works up anywhere?

  • @Rivorus The book (doesn't include Sleigh Ride) is available in my Sky Blue Music store (see description above). Alfred Music has now approached me about publishing Sleigh Ride. Thanks to those of you who asked them to publish it.

  • Love it! Heading to Amazon next! I have a compilation of a dozen Sleigh Rides and this one will be moved to the top, right after my son's trumpet version. Thank you for sharing!

  • Wow, great!

    Best wishes,

    Judyesther

  • Nice fresh approach to overcome my boredom with playing the original this season!

  • Johnny Guarnieri did this kind of thing to standards.

  • @TH21789 That's right. I used to come in and listen to Johnny Guarnieri at "Tail of the Cock" in Studio City. Very enjoyable.

  • Me too (I grew up in Burbank)! He was great--and such small hands.

  • You are lucky YouTube lets you put this up... Alfred could easily tell them to turn off the sound and they would! Anyway, it's charming and beautifully played too!

  • Mind-boggling odd meter. Love it!

  • Reminds me of Dave Brubeck.

  • this arrangement is so unique and somewhat refreshing! love it !!

  • Great arrangement! So nice to have an intelligent and musical arrangement of a Christmas classic....so much better than hearing "Jingle Bell Rock" over and over again....or worse yet, Bieber!

Also enjoyed the pianist's grin at the end of the vid!

  • For some reason this reminds me of the Charlie Brown theme.

  • Very interesting and cool! I'm so tired of the original. This is fresh. Love it.

  • i wish i could do thiss!!

  • Thank you. Very nice...

  • Right to Alfred Publishing. I did today and they are responding to see what the issue is. If enough of us email them, perhaps they will publish it for us. I'd love to buy it too. permissions@alfred.com.

  • ...and when I did play along, it took me a minute to find the two bars of 5...

  • @drzirkle by a minute i think you mean 34 seconds, at least for the first time it happens :p

  • :) Fun! It makes me want to play along with a dunbek/tonbak.

  • Can't you give it a different title? For example, I have a friend who arranged a medley of "Thriller" and "Beat It" and called it "For the Thrill of It." Would your publisher allow something like that?

  • My friends who are professional accompanists in New York City have watched this, shared it and are all giving up playing the piano for ever lmao. I myself personally was raised by drag queens and I want to slap you. Your playing is just MAGICAL ! WHAT a treat! Thank you SO ! MUCH ! Merry and happy and healthy and joyous holidays to you, beautiful and kind sir.

  • Now lets hear it in 9 8! lol.

  • This grooves so well! Love it

  • Is this music still not available? Can you self-publish? I would LOVE to buy this!

  • @stanny1960 same here

  • @tsaxguy89 I found it! It's at skybluemusic

  • Fantastic job! The arrangement and performance both capture the magical feeling of the season. This is really special.

  • Very Vince Guaraldi-ish. I like it a lot

  • this is awesome haha!!

  • I love this!!!

  • Amazing arrangement!

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. I WISH I COULD GET THE SHEET MUSIC THOUGH... HOPE ALFRED CHANGES THEIR MIND!

  • Great job...but why F and not the original Bb?

  • love it! love it!

  • I am loving this! I love it when someone rearranges a tune in a creative and wonderful way!!! Thank you so much for sharing it!

  • This is sooo good. Masterfully played. Thank you so much for sharing it!

  • can you put sheet music up for download/sale? please? :D

  • You're a ROCK STAR!

  • Where's the whinney at the end??? Love this!

  • Unusual meters make me stupid giddy. Thanks for making it hip. Don't Forget To Be Awesome.

  • this is fantastic!!!

  • I like this piece and 7/8 is my favourite time signature.

  • Sod the fact it's august this has not got boring since I discovered it on December! And as the previous person commented, 7/8 is so unique but so interesting!

  • 7/8 time is so unique. I want to make or hear more music in this time.

  • You should orchestrate this! My orchestra would buy it!

  • 2 people can't count to three. (one two one two one two three)

  • A master at work.

  • 7/8 is awesome.

  • BRAVO Your timing was perfect :D I absolutely loving playing songs with my band in 7/8

  • Love this song and love the arrangement! Bravo!

  • wonderful! and so festive! is there score available for purchase also?

  • That is just amazing. Bravo all the way. Kind of a strange look he gives us tho at the end of the song.

  • NIcre playing, cross between Vince Girardi & Dave Brubeck. Fabulous.

  • Youtube has a lot of amateur, untrained, untalented musicians out there.....you are not one of them. Great job

  • i need some sheet music pleaseee!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • this is a GREAT arrangement! i love the syncopation. very jazzy :)

  • This made my Christmas

  • your music reminds me of mike tomaro, but this was gorgeous none the less

  • i must say this arrangement is quite unique and somewhat refreshing!

  • YOU ROCK

  • The technique reminds me of the jazz pianist featured on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

  • First off, I love your arrangement! It brings a fresh new vibe to the song that I just like to listen to.

On to my question: Have you tried requesting a web posting license (and sell it as a pdf instead) as well? I'm totally eager to learn this song in time for Christmas, so I'm looking at any option I can to get a copy of this song. I've sent an email to Alfred's already, but who knows if they'll listen to me. If it comes to it, I may just have to learn it by ear...

  • Cool. I'll be learning this one in a few months! Nice work! ONE-2-3-4-5-6-7-ONE-2-3-4-5-6-7...wicked.

  • @Evanissimo How about 1-2 1-2 1-2-3 instead? And I share your enthusiasm for 7/8 as well!

  • What fun! Bravo! I just purchased the entire album from Amazon. : )

  • @evandolah Thank you so much. I really appreciate it!

  • @eidco Do you know of anyways at all of obtaining the sheet music for this song? I'd really like to learn it for Christmas.

  • What fun! Bravo!

  • Yeah!! This really works in 7/8 time..gorgeous:)

  • Ruchenitsa all the way! ;)

  • @lori4kinka

I had to search a little bit, but you've taught me something new. Thanks.

  • @eidco Bulgarian folklore is where many kinky tacts (maybe "uneven" is the official word?) like 7/8, 9/8 and more complex ones originally come from, so I recognized it :) Now you just have to learn to dance it hahah Thumbs up :)

  • @lori4kinka at first i thought it said russians all the way lol (sorry if ur russian i have no way of knowin)

  • @kittythingy713 Hahah, no, I'm not. I'm Bulgarian and ruchenitsa is an old Bulgarian folk dance from where 7/8 started. Measures like 7/8, 9/8 and more complex ones are known long ago in Bulgarian folklore. That's why I said that :)

  • @lori4kinka thats cool, u learn something new almost everyday

  • I have a request. I would love to hear you do your own arrangement of "My Blue Heaven" I think you would tear it up!

  • I love that. Thanks very much. I am just a 1/2 of a bass player, trumpet player from school days, and 56 years old. Thanks for brushing me up. Very intruguing!

My ex, Mary Kronzer, a piano musician/teacher produced her mothers beautiful Christmas song called "Bring Joy" and won a songwriters contest years ago. You brought back great memories. Keep up being you!

    Aloha, Paul

  • Absolutely Brilliant! I was blown away by this! So many of my friends and acquaintences don't share the same passion I have for music, and so many of them aren't opened minded enough to appreciate a different twist on already established piece of music. They'll always say they prefer the original. I love to hear different interpretations of music because it keeps it fresh. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world. Love it. God Bless my friend.

  • A delightful piece, I enjoyed it!!

    Thanks for sharing!

    All the best,

    ~Anindya

  • Absolutely Brilliant.

  • Hypnotic--I keep playing it over and over--

I have to wonder what Leroy would think about this

    if he heard it,

    not to mention Lawrence a-one a-two a-Welk.

    Quite a unique accomplishment.

    Jeff

  • You are amazing ---this tune is amazing....Absolutely beautiful! Best Wishes to you! -Colin

  • Yes very reminiscent of Guaraldi, yet very much your own! Very enjoyable, thank you :)

  • AMAZING!!

  • Very cool! I can barely count that fast, let alone play that fast.

  • Another great arrangement, you make it look so simple to play. The left hand rythmic accompanyment is excellent. Regards David

  • I love it!

  • This is SICK! LOLOLOL wow!

  • Cool with a capital 'C'. Justice done really nicely to one of my favourites. Happy Christmas

  • kind'a reminds me of the peanuts LOL

  • Very enjoyable! Reminds me of brunch. :-)

  • where do you get the sheet music from? anyway i really like the song. =P 5/5

  • Thanks trooper5mdl. It's my own arrangement. Alfred Music holds the copyright to Leroy Anderson's 'Sleigh Ride'. They will not give me permission to publish my arrangement. You can send your opinion of this decision to their permissions department (listed in 'more info' to the right).

  • THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME :) thanks for posting -- i just love this song

  • really loved this....totally puts you right in a happy Christmas mood...you're awesome <3

  • That is ridiculous. I've only known Sleigh Ride to be in cut time. It sounds awesome in 7/8.

  • Send me a personal message.

    I'll send you a PDF

  • Love it!

  • Oh this was lovely!! Really put me in the Christmas mood! Endless stars! *****

  • Hey John - as an ex-casuals player who's played many a X-mas party in his time, I thought I never wanted to hear this piece again. Thanks for proving me wrong with your oh-so-cool arrangement!

  • Ha ha...that's funny. So the term "casuals" is used in New Zealand, too? Thanks for listening

  • It is, but I'm an old West Coast dog...paid my dues in the SF Bay Area. I've been attacked by drunken guests in some of the finest wedding venues up and down the coast.

  • great stuff!!

  • This is amazing! What an arrangement and performance. And I love your smile at the end, haha. I subscribed! Can't wait to see a new video in my subscription box.

  • btw, I love the look of your hands! :)
