  • if anyone else hates on tim owens i'll fuckin' kill them...what shoes to fill and with such authority and confidence...he is a metal stud!

  • Owens manages to sound fairly Halford-esqe at the end of the song. He had big shoes to fill, but was probably the best pick to do so.

  • Always the problem when a new singer steps in to the original singer's shoes - everyone inevitably compares apples with oranges and the new guy rarely stands a chance - Ronnie could never be Ozzy, Coverdale could never be Gillan, Annette could never be Tarja and so on, but each of them bring a new quality, a new dimension and a new dynamic to a band that may otherwise have disappeared forever. Tim was always going to have his work cut out when joining Priest but wow, did he rise to it. Awesome.

  • A serviceable version of a great song. Owens is a good singer, but with Halford gone, the gay leather crowd deserted the band, emasculating the fan base.

  • it's silly comparing Owens with Halford...and to each his own...but just listen to him scream "diamonds and rust" at the end of this song....one of the most piercing, melodious screams ever in metal...and for me this is the best version of Diamonds and Rust by Judas Priests simply because of the way it ends

  • and to think scott travis found him in british steel i think it was, a tribute band, nice to know the band went to him and not the other way and his audition lasted 1 line and he got the job

  • @mrgrahamhearn lol as soon as they heard him yell the first line of "victim of changes" they were like yah he's the guy hahah, he did a dam good job replacing halford but will never touch what halford created, also tim used head/chest voice, halford sings in true chest always.

  • Yeah! This is a nice version!! =)

  • Its good but nothing compares to the unique voice of Rob.

  • I love Rob Halford & Tim Owens. Both are AMAZING but Rob is the legend.

  • this is halford, not owens.

  • @metaldaan Nope. This is off the album '98 Meltdown. This is most certainly Owens. Even has the part where it goes "We're gonna bring one back here. We haven't done this one in a while. It's called Diamonds & Rust." The comments seem to imply that it's just Ripper Owens, but it's not. It's off a Judas Priest album.

  • @metaldaan Are you sure??

  • @metaldaan - no its not....it's that young kid

  • watch?v=xDYTo1rRJ9o ;)

  • ripper owens is a great singer, but its unfair to compare him to halford, only a few singers are even on halfords level. (Ronny james dio and Bruce Dickinson to name 2)

  • Vocals aren't bad, but it pails in comparison to Halford singing it.

  • great fuckin' screams like Rob!!!!!!!

  • wow,good vocals!

  • Ripper Owens was a better replacement for Priest than Blaze Bayley was for Maiden

  • Ripper does an incredible job on Diamonds and Rust. Everyone here has to admit that

  • I went to high school auto tech with his older brother Jeff. Met him a couple of times in 74-75. Jeff didn't like his lil brother's heavy metal leanings. I obviously did. And That's the way it was....

  • Awesome vocalist, sounds like the love child of Rob and Sebastian Bach

  • Comment removed

  • he is good enough to sing in judas no doubt (coming from the guy who thinks hartford is in the top three metal voices ever)

  • @TancoMartin You mean Halford? Yeah, clearly you have a lot of respect for him.

  • Spectacular.I never thought these guys were doing such a feminist song-at least, gotta be their enthem,I suppose-being this one written by Joan Baez! Bravo,Judas Priest!!!

  • Yeah, I can't knock Tim. Obviously, he's no Halford, but I cannot rip a guy who was respectful the whole time he was in Priest. He did the best job he could. Now, although I PERSONALLY don't care for his singing of many of Priest's songs, you gotta admit: listening to him sing THIS song gives me goose bumps, and he just scorches "Rapid Fire".

  • I saw Judas Priest with Ripper Owens in Toronto and He s amazing!! fucking great singer!!

  • @marguedas i have got a autographed rippen owens jnco jeans

  • Ripper Owens is a better singer then every f----g man or woman sitting here on youtube and writing but it´s not fair to be compared to a singer like Rob Halford...

This guy has a great voice...

  • ripper is awesome but in 2001 he was already losing his voice a bit, as you can see in the "live and london" dvd. That´s how you can see how difficult it is to sing these songs, i think it was ok when Ripper left (or was kicked out) cos´ it would have ruined his voice after a couple of years. That´s another reason why Rob is so great, he´s 60 now, an he still quite manage to scream his lungs out :-)

  • @holymariner1 Listen to Scream Machine by Beyond Fear. No way has Ripper lost his voice and he's not going to anytime soon.

  • I think the Ripper is no doubt a talent, but a 60 year old Halford against a 31 year old voice? Give Rob his due.....

  • Ripper is singing it extremely nice. I don't usually like his style, a bit aggressive, but here he's doing an excellent job..

  • Ripper fucking owned it \m/ i love Halford but lets face it he got his ass served by Ripper...theres some kinda gay joke in there somewhere im sure ;)

  • I don't like the American accent, but he sings brilliantly.

  • Awesome !!!

  • That's my favourite version of this song ;)

  • I saw him acoustic at his club last night tim is incredible

  • Ripper Owens>>>>Blaze Bayley. Both legends had to find "replacements" to their godly frontmen but Priest's fill in was incredible imo

  • @mrbill191715 Actully for me no way! Both Halford and Dickinson were loved by the majority. I might be the only person in the world but for me Blaze Bayley will sound better than Bruce. Because he has a more complex and deeper voice which I'll love. I also don't think Bruce voice would not fit to the X Factor

  • @luc00leh Wow interesting. Yeah in my post it sounds like I was completely disrespecting Blaze, I saw him live a couple months ago and it was a lot of fun. But you don't think bruce would sound good on VXI or you do? He sang Clansman pretty damn well imo

  • this guy flat out f@#king owns. that. is. all.

  • I'm old school Priest all of the way....but I must admit he has a terrific voice...must be 'cuz he's a fellow Ohioan!!!!! LOL!!!!

  • The version is all wrong. Vocal performance is amazing...

  • Well,

    1) Tim Owens is a nice guy;

    2) Tim Owens is a good singer, and this version proves that (at least to me);

    3) and he had a really tough job, being a "replacement" for a great singer with strong charisma, some may have not been taking him seriously which is not fair cause he's cool enough to be seen as himself, not just "a guy trying to imitate Rob Halford".

So hats off to Tim Owens. Mine's off to him.

  • @sheena13col

I saw Tim live in San Fran, he was amazing! My first priest Cd's were Judulator and Double live melt down as I was aware during the 80's as a tiny kid. I love Ripper and Halford eras for different reasons but Tim brought a unique energy to the band. Tim is a bit more active on stage and talks to the crowd a bit more in my opinion. I have seen priest 2 times with Halford Before his voice was starting to crack a bit as it is now and he was great in a completely different way.

  • Nailled it on the wall.

  • Best voice ever!!Long life for The Ripper!!! :)

  • The absolute perfect song for Ripper's voice.

  • ...! from Greece

  • @3:01: WTF! :)

  • @CheckedAvailability Ripper really OWeNS this one

  • the only reason of halford's return to priest was for the fans.... an for money hahaha owens always gonna better singer to me :)

  • almost as good as Halford! beautiful voice, absulutely amazing, im truely blown away!

  • Ripper ROCKS!

  • I Can't understant people who says Ripper is bad, because they love RoB Halford.

to be Honest, Both singers are awesome, and we must be mercyfull of have the chance to hear they.

  • Beautiful version! Snare drum sounds great.

  • RIPPER ROCKS- MAN!! YOU KNOW IT

  • My God. He was an excellent replacement but clearly the fans wanted Rob back. Which was ok to feel that way.

I think Tim is beyond amazing!!!!

  • dang ripper is good here

  • ive heard other versions but this one is by far the best.

  • Awesome job Tim!!!

  • This is awesome!! He sounds exactly like Halford but better! And not gay lol!

  • Ripper is a beast. He was the perfect replacement for Halford. That said, I still prefer Ripper as a singer in general but Halford was the original screamer so that makes him better for this band.

  • qué bueno Ripper, canta de fábula, parece un joven Rob Halford.

  • the best music..goooooooooooooodddddddddddddddddd

  • Who is better halford or Owen's = who fucking cares, they both are awesome vocalist's

  • I bet Ripper has had more pussy in his life than Halford. ;)

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 bwahahahaha

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 Brilliant deduction. Rob is gay - so that might make a subtle difference.

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 sure genious... rob is gay

  • Comment removed

  • @oskr5674 That was the point sherlock.

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 duuuuuuuh

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 almost definitely seeing as halford prefers men

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 well halford is gay actually

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 Owens is the fucking man! Considering Halford is gay and all ur statement stands true...BUT I bet Halford has turned DOWN more pussy than Tim will ever be offered :p

  • @MrNegativeone1 FUCK i didnt see your comment before i posted

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 i bet halford has turned down more pussy than ripper has been offered :D

  • simply awesome version - the best ever

  • Ive been a fan of Priest for many years and this is just amazing Ripper fucking smashes it \m/ FUCK YEAH RIPPER!!

  • Judas Priest = Rob Halford. And Rob's relly owns this fellow who tried to sing this beautiful song. Hats of for even trying to cover Halford. But, that's mission impossible.

  • Halford cant hold his jock strap....Just the vocal range alone....is enough..If you cant hear that your dont know metal...

  • As a fan of judas priest I say that ripper owen is a amazing singer compare to halford. Jugulator is by far the most heavy judas album and demolition got bad review because of people and fans that can't get over it. Once they got back with halford their latest albums aren't really that good they want to emulate something from the past only to satisfy the old fans not to get new ones.

  • @themaster666able So, then, you should know if you're a true Judas Priest fan, that Ripper was just a part-time replacement for Halford. He did his role, kept Priest rolling until Halford's return. The same thing was with Blaze Bayley in Maiden, until Bruce's return. Just imagine how it would have sounded with Halford on vocals? A way better. Halford is Judas Priest and no one else. He's a way better singer than Ripper. No disrespect towards him, but that's a fact. Cheers!

  • @themaster666able I don't agree with you. Angel of retribution is one hell of a album. It is heavy enough for my taste. And, what's the most important, Rob is singing, not Owens.

  • Gr8 :d ..

  • Ripper fuckin owns \m/ sorry guys i love Halford but Ripper shudda stayed in priest Halford aint what he used to be \m/

  • @MrAdammassacre YUP!!!! How did that Nostra...whatever work out? FUCK Halford. Fuck Fight...Fuck TWO...REMEMBER TWO Halford Metal Fraud losers? Ripper sings Bloodstained....Halford "Personal Property." AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

  • @MrAdammassacre Well, Halford has proven himself many years ago. He's like sixty years old and sings a way better than Ripper will ever sing. You know that scream that Ripper made in Burn in hell? A sad attempt to reach Halford's vocal range. Halford is Priest and that's just a fact. Jugulator is a good album, but Halford would make it even better.

  • neeee

  • I saw Ripper 2 days ago in Valparaiso, Chile and this song was on the list

what can I say... it was fucking awesome!!

  • @frudasmetalero HOLY SHIT. compadre! la mea cuea!

  • @frudasmetalero god damm i didnt knew he visit our country CTM at least i can say he is my favourite singer... and i cover him in a tribute to judas priest lml

    RIPPER OWENS FTW!!

  • 3:01 and on, just wow..

  • awesome version...ripper is the man!!

  • So f%#%kin beautiful :)

  • his not halford but in this song is the best voice could be!!!!!!

  • @olyenko NO MAMES HAZ VISTO LA VERSION DE VALENCIA DE HALFORD? ESTA VERSION ES BASTANTE BUENA PERO NO SUPERA POR LO MAS MINIMO A EL GOD OF METAL NO MANCHES OSEA POR FAVOR TIENES QUE VER TODAS LAS VERSIONES PARA QUE DIGAS ESO ASI QUE ASEGURATE DE VER TODAS LAS VERSIONES

  • red. halford has echo all over his live performance.i'm not really even comparing the 2 i like them both. if you even doubt rippers abilities go check out his abogail cover on the roadrunner united videos or alice in hell.all i'm sayin is ripper owns everything he covers.and his origininal stuff is great too

  • @xdemonhunter666 Whatever, but Ripper will never be, from a far distance close to Halford. Maybe in his next life, but not in this one. Cheers!

  • owens rulez!

  • I don't care what people say about Ripper Owens, he sounds alot better then Halford does today.

Listen to '98 Live and then listen to Rising in the East and try telling me Halford gives a better performance.

  • your fuckin insane ripper owns this song! listen to him cover flight of icarus he owns that too.im not sayin halford isnt great but if you think ripper could't fill his shoes you a retarded

  • @xdemonhunter666 Ripper is great, but he could never touch Rob, and besides they even have to tune down with Ripper cause he can't sing it like Rob was able to when he was Rippers age

  • @rredzone

They downtuned the songs because Jugulator and Demolition were written in Drop C. (which is also why they never played 'Cathedral Spires' live... it's in a different tuning). Listen to Ripper's cover of Exciter... it's not downtuned and he hits every note. And a few notes higher than the Halford version.

  • @xRazorFistx Exactly they tuned down because even on the album he couldn't sing like Rob. if he could sing the old Priest songs as high as Rob they would have just switched to guitars that were tuned higher, but they didn't. and the Exciter cover he does is actually tuned down a half step, and he's hitting the notes in falsetto (which is a lot easier), not in head voice like Rob. Ripper is great, but not as GREAT as Halford.

  • @rredzone

On Jugulator, Ripper hits a G#5 several times. A note that Halford was having trouble with in 1990, for crying out loud, never mind now. Hell, I'm listening to lots of '70s Priest these days and I'm struggling to find even one instance of Rob Halford hitting a G#5 at any point in his career, much less without falsetto.

  • @xRazorFistx Rob hit G#5 in Ram It Down, and in Dissident Aggressor which he also layers with a B5. And the scream in "The Ripper" is an A5. Like i've already said twice, Ripper Owens is great, but will never compare to what Rob was able to do.

  • @xRazorFistx

    lol

    Ripper hits a g#5 without falsetto ?

Halford does hit it in the Live Insurrection album in 2001 ..

  • No I agree this not.

  • Allahım bu sesssssssss.. brilliant dedikleri bu olsa gerek

  • @oblinaaa34........ what??

  • @frudasmetalero let me translate: omg, this voice...that must be what they say "brilliant"

  • @frudasmetalero Google Translate ;}

  • @frudasmetalero He's speaking turkish- "My gosh, this sounds brilliant!" more or less.

  • @oblinaaa34 hahahahahahahaahahahahahahahah what?

  • i say perfect for me! either with ripper or halford judas is the best!!!! metal gods

  • This version violates Halford!

  • @QUEVIVAELMETAL

Shit...a lot more than this version has violated Halford. what's your point?

  • @zorratr

    ahahahah

  • @zorratr hahahaha

  • @bassisrocknroll Tim is not some random guy man, He is a legit singer, I have known him for years and they persued him for the band.

  • the chorus is impresionant, ripper is the fucking master!!

  • Wow isnt this the best performance ive ever heard in metal TIM OWENS hesgot so fantastic voice SO POWERFUL!!!

  • Guys, this is NOT Rob, it´s the other - but very good..., he is not better or worse, only different..! Love it!

  • is Ripper Owens!!!!

  • Yes, this song is from live meltdown 98.. Is Mr Owens..

  • c'mon guys !!! this is ripper not halford

  • @frudasmetalero

which is why it's a million times better. But that's just personal taste, so...

  • @Mazanostra All Ripper did was copy Halford's style, he has no own style. So in fact you like both of them.

  • @Megaerathia I think that Ripper by trying to copy Halford style, he made his own and it kicks asses

  • @frudasmetalero Yeah, we can tell RIPPER DESTROYS Halford and I've been listening to Priest since 82. Metal God???? hahahaha. That's why Halford said, "Metal is Dead" back in 97. FUCK him and Eddie Skunk.

  • @frudasmetalero yes this is ripper but no matter who is he, he has brillant voice. He has everything to be a metalhead except charisma. Ripper looks like a rapper at all and he started his pro career in Priest, trying to replace Halford. He's unlucky that we couldn't see his talent while we were triyng to get into " Rob is gone" idea.

  • @frudasmetalero who's the mad who said it's halford??? :D

  • This is Robert Halford, not the Ripper.

  • @Megaerathia unfortunately...it's just NOT true. Ripper Owens sings this. Nobody has capability to sing this better than him in my opinion.

  • @darkfro I recognize Robert Halford from far away, and The Ripper has nowhere near as a clear and high voice as Halford, listen again.

  • @Megaerathia Tim "Ripper" Owens, who had previously sung in a Judas Priest tribute band called British Steel, was hired in 1996 as Judas Priest's new singer. This line up released two albums, Jugulator and Demolition, as well as two live double-albums - '98 Live Meltdown and Live in London, the latter of which had a live DVD counterpart. Jugulator sold relatively well. This version of Diamonds and rust is from live Meltdown 98.

  • @darkfro

No really, though this is Robert Halford singing.

  • @Megaerathia

Sorry to break it to you, but this is definitely Tim.

Search for an acoustic version with Rob. Their voices are distinctively different.

  • @Megaerathia This is Tim, I know this for fact because he is a very close friend of mine. I have seen him in various bands including Priest and I know what he sounds like. This is the same track that is on , Live In London which the link below is the actual video of this song. So all of you swearing you can identify Rod Halford for miles away, THIS IS NOT ROB

  • @Megaerathia

You really couldn't recognize your own nose in front of the mirror. This is Ripper performing Live Meltdown '98

  • @Megaerathia Man, you are really convinced here. Ok, compare this to London DVD 2000. It is the same man..The Ripper, of course. Rob did not sing with the rest of Judas in 98. But it seems like you will never admit it. I rest my case. If you want this to be Halford, you got it. Anyway, I am glad that we have similiar taste in music. Peace

  • @Megaerathia

It's ripper. Clean the Halford out of your ears!

  • it is mr. owens!

  • this is robert halford singing, not mr. owens!

  • @arnoudnaaktgeboren Ha!!!No... -.-"

  • @arnoudnaaktgeboren

YOU MORON..THIS IS NOT ROB!! HOW FUNNY!!

  • 2:38 onward = ownage

Talk about an ultimate climax to a Heavy Metal Ballad!

  • Ripper dominated......enough said

    Ripper forever!

  • Que brutal la Voz de Tim Ripper Owens

  • Awsome song , i saw him in vegas with Priest, back in 2001..

  • Wow, this version is great.
