It's funny, I never heared it as a read poem, I only knew the Schubert song. To be honest, as a poem it nearly sounds better in english. Cute accent!

@monkeytwineball There are two main ways of translating poetry from one language to another - one sacrifices the rhyming to get the precise meaning across better, and the other sacrifices the precise meaning to keep a rhyming scheme. Neither methods are ideal, but they both give access to the original poem in some way to those with a different native tongue :)

Your German pronunciation is very good. However, you should do some practise with the "ü" umlaut and the uvular "r". How long have you been learning?

I just can't believe it! Schubert's rendition of "Die Winterreise" is one of my favourite pieces of classical music. So melancholy, and dreamlike, and indeed "schneeverweht" in sound (like snow being swept by the wind). Ah, such beauty. The same goes for your recital. The "o" in "Mondenschatten" is slightly longer, but apart from that it's perfect. You read w/ so much feeling. I can't express how much I appreciate your chosing this poem and your rendition of it. (Maybe go for Rilke next time? ;)

My fav music performance is the Moore/Fischer-Dieskau from 1963, but there are many to explore, each unique.

Du hast zwei Wörter falsch ausgesprochen, so ergeben sie einen anderen Sinn:

1. Line 6: "Eh" is a abbreviation for 'Ehe' (marriage). You say 'er' (he), or 'Ehr' (abbreviation for 'Ehre' = glory). You just have to say the german 'e' (it's hard to explain, i think it's sound like the 'ai' in the english 'fair').

The first e in Ehe sounds like the é in French "café"; the second one is a "schwa" (in linguists' lingo); as the first syllable in English "arrive".

The second word is 'weißen' in line 15. You say 'weisen' ('mahatma'/'sage' or 'to show') with a soft 's', but 'ß' is a hard spoken 's', like this from 'sun'.
