  • In Soviet Russia, Piano Plays YOU

  • Who has the sheet music for this? I want it now it sounds so pretty.

  • He's a great pianist - saw him play ( I recall) the Brahms Clarinet Quartet a while ago, it was really great.

  • What is the Brahms and Schumann piece that he plays at 5:13 and so on? They sounds absolutely lovely. I don't really like his interpretation of Rondo Alla Turca; I like the Andras Schiff interpretation but quite off topic.

  • @ObliquePerfection92

The Brahms is Op. 118 No. 2 Intermezzo in A major. The Schumann is Traumerei from Kinderszenen Op. 15.

  • Thank-you very much.

  • can anyone tell me what piece from beethoven is played at 3:19??

  • Waldstein-Sonate

  • The Waldenstein Sonata

  • Good advice! This is certainly helpful on how to go about a live audition.

  • I don't know why but I also dislike Yamaha pianos... it's not as a good feel to the voicing

  • take a stand, boycott Warner Music Group Chairman And CEO, Edgar Bronfman, for shuting down YouTubers. keep youtube free. email every one you know and ask them to foreword it to all.

  • 好

  • By the way, he may be a good pianist, but he talks to you like you never have played in the public before.

  • Thank you for the helpful auditioning tips for pianists! Mood expression and technique are the key towards those Superior ratings at State contest.

  • thank u so much..that was really helpful..and btw lovely notes..master of piano

  • Yamaha is the best non-german piano. Ask many experts, and you will hear the same.

  • Nope, on the contrary, its not as good as Samick (or used to be, since Yamaha owns Samick now) and also Bösendorfer and Steinway are leading the professional piano sectore.

  • Steinway is better, yes, Steingraeber to. But other than that, Yamaha is really one of the best. Especially when you are low on cash...

  • Thats true.

  • Actually Bosendorfer is much better than both Steinway and Yamaha but it's just unaffordable for a lot of people.

  • ive always thought borsendorfer and steinway have been matched in quality and sound. Yamaha piano's (in my opinion) tend to be 'brighter' in tone which i find undesirable. many other japanese made piano's tend to be brighter as well. just a thought.

  • Never played a Bosendorfer. I agree Yamaha sounds too bright. I also dislike Kawai for many of the same reasons.

I play on a 30 year old Baldwin upright that I personally believe has the best tone of any piano I've played except a Steinway concert grand. Granted, I haven't played everything. Now if only the action weren't so sticky...

  • Baldwin are British made arent they? I have never played one but i have heard them and i do love the tone. There are specialists that can fix that for you and it will feel brand new!! :D

  • American, I think. Ohio iirc. There are specialists... and they charge specialist prices. =)

  • Kaway is the best sound piano(concert piano) try to listen it.. sound wonderfull..

  • you think so? I´d prefer Steinway or Fazioli...

  • i prefer Kaway or Borgatto! :D listen them a live! wonderfull

  • yes i agrree and it is mad pricy

  • Why is this video so late compared with the other orchestral instruments? It would've been really hard to learn this long piece in 4 days...

  • Honestly, if I had found this video sooner, I might have submitted a video 1. The sheet music for the piano for me was too late and too much... Nice video anyway :)

  • bravo

  • Oh wow I'm only discovering this now....so pianists are allowed to take liberties with what's written eh...

  • god that is one of the worst pianos i've ever heard! i bet its a yamaha...

  • amen. Yamaha Sucks!!!

  • The quality of the piano is not as important as the person playing it.

  • don't get me wrong, i never dist the player! i think it probably goes without saying that if he is the orchestral pianist of one of the best orchestras in britain, then he must be brilliant. i just hate yamaha pianos! everything about them.

  • They're used a lot for practice with children I think. But it's strange, why did they give him that piano to film with? I'm sure they have many better pianos or practice rooms he could use...

  • Tan Dun is pronounced as 'tahn doon' NOT 'tahn dahn'. Simple mandarin!

  • You say that like everybody knows mandarin Xp lol

  • but one should make the effort to find out the correct pronunciation. i don't know french but i pronounce a french title e.g. Jardin Sous la Pluie correctly anyway, just for the few words.

  • well tan dun himself pronounces it tahn done

  • Yeah, He does say it like Done.

  • DOUCHE BAG!!!

  • Wise man.

  • Thats why you need to present lead charts for left hand and scale patterns required for right hand since time is so short. This would make things SOOOO MUCH EASIER for ALL!!! Plus why dont you introduce some Thelonious MONK or some JAZZERS??? HOLLA BACK!!!

  • Uh this came a BIT late don't ya think? If we knew we could rearrange to allow for a more....suitable piece, I would have actually bothered to learn it! Oh well

  • would it cost us points if we actually "leave out" some notes for the sake of making the piano part to Tan Dun's piece more "pianistic", or no ...?

the FAQ says, "stick to the part as written and to the tempo set by the conductor"

  • Why he's talking about a live audition? We have to post a video. And should we do 2 pieces in 5 minutes?

  • it's good advice if you're gonna be in a serious orchestra.

  • Hi ... did i have to use the PEDAL in the TAN DUN compossition???

Because in the rules says that i just play the notes in the partiture anymore, then i think i have not to add pedal (sorry for my english).

    Please answer my question. Thanks

  • don't just play notes! make music!

  • very good advice. but...when does the YouTube Symphony actually start? are the auditions still going on?

  • auditions are going until january 28th i think.

  • You are a very good piano man

  • Thank you so much.

  • we can play 2 pieces from the list?

  • No, I think he's talking about what you'd generally expect to find in an orchestral audition, rather than what's needed for the YTSO

  • one piece from the list, and the internet symphony eroica.

  • I think I've done my best though uploaded my video two days ago. Very professional tips!

  • Very nice

  • Beastin. I wish i could play like this.

  • FINALLY!!! NOW - its MY turn!! XDDDD

  • I enjoyed him very much - better than the bass master class LOL

  • 20 comment yeah!!!

  • lovely.

  • its never too late my friend :)

  • finally a piano masterclass!

but maybe it is a bit too late to teach now..not enough time i guess =/

  • He gives some pretty good advice.

  • 15 lol

  • awesome

  • ohhh so thats how u play the piano part...i was thinking who would be able to do such a thing.

  • Same as Fox. Cool.

  • You are too late to say "first"! Someone went before you.

  • cool
