  • Her name was Idgey not Iggy or Izzy!

  • I've walked down this very road and did indeed eat at the Whistle Stop Cafe and bought honey...wonderful! Took many pictures of us, up and down the street. "they probably get tired of all the tourists...", you said. I say NOT, that is the only way those folks stay open. LOL. Very friendly folks in every store. We have met Tim Scott, after he made Lonesome Dove. He has since died. Good job on the video. Did you drive on out to the Jarrell Plantation? Do that sometime....

  • Fried Green Tomatoes is one of my very favorite movies, (in the top ten) and also one of my favorite foods. This video IS a treat... I've been in the Whistle Stop Cafe a couple of times several years ago, and their food is wonderful. I'm hoping to make it back there at some point. Driving Miss Daisy is also one of my favorite movies. I know Mississippi and Georgia are separated by Alabama, but I just saw "The Help" (set in Mississippi) and it would be great if you made one of these vids for it.

  • @rfm2ckt I just saw The Help today. Great movie. Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • My hometown, best place on Earth!

  • My mom works at plant sherer(sp?) anyways on the way back home to eatonton dad showed me all of this. Haha to bad ive never seen the movie. :/ some one needs to show helen ga it's pretty cool

  • This was such a treat to see! I started crying when you looked into the Cafe. It looks just the same. I am so glad to know it wasn't all just a set. It's really there. And the kicker was the windowpane! Thank you soooo much for doing this. My mother are I are smiling ear to ear right now. Btw- you say "tomatoes" the same way they say it in the movie. Cute.

  • @uhuher Glad you liked it, Larisa. It's just like in the movie. :) I also did a video, showing all the places where Driving Miss Daisy was filmed in Atlanta. -Jim

  • MOST OF THIS MOVIE WAS FILMED IN COWETA COUNTY

  • Thank You sososososos much for uploading this !!! i love this movie!! thanks!!!!! :)

  • @kkusinski14 Thanks for watching! :)

  • Repeat after me Jim "IDGIE......IDGIE"

You have her confused with IGGY POP somehow

Great movie great score one of my favorites.

"And now that lake is over in Georgia somewhere"... RIP Idgie

  • very nice. it`s like the saying gos if we don`t look to our past we have no future.what a simple time and place .

  • You did a nice job. I would like to post someday where they filmed some of Thelma & Louise near me. Also check out HerveAttia 's channel , He does alot of scenes before and after of movies. You might enjoy it.

  • Thanks for the tour! : )

  • Ruth and Iggy were definately my two favorite characters.

  • "Ate lunch at the Whistle Stop Cafe yesterday. In the back is a concrete slab that is suppose to be Frank Bennett's grave and It says,: Here lies Frank Bennett of Valdosta Ga. and of course the epitatah says: "The secret is in the sause" and then a sly note is added that says... "and here", which I assume refers to Frank...lol"

  • Ate lunch at the Whistle Stop Cafe yesterday.

  • this i snot the original the FIRST and the on in fannie flaggs book is in alabama!!!

  • they should of put the cafe in alabama, not georgia. it was in alabama in the movie.

  • never have i wanted to tour the south more......thanks for the video

  • I live about ten minutes from the Whistle Stop Cafe and go there during the week. <333

  • Its a ghost town now.

  • Thanks for the nice tour, Jim, I think I`ll watch the movie again tonight. :)

  • @MsChopperdog It's a great movie to see every now and then. Thanks for watching!

  • One of the best movies of all time! I loved it when it first came out in 1991 and still do. Excellent cast, excellent movie. Oh, in case you haven't tried them, fried green tomatoes are YUMMY, especially with beans & cornbread! :D

  • Idgy...Idgy...Thanks for the video!

  • It looks much nicer than in the movie. I got the impression they intentionally made some of the buildings look a little more run down than they were for more authentic period authenticity? Plus in the scenes where it was the 20s and 30s I think there was a dirt road instead of the gravel road you see here?

  • aww cute! I live in Macon and actually planned to ride out there today for lunch if they are open today! :)

  • I guess they closed the place does anyone know?

  • I went there yesterday (Saturday). The cafe is open, 7 days a week I think. The menu said they close at 8pm on Saturday, but our waitress said they were getting ready to close at 6, hmmm. An order of the FGT will run you $6.95 for about 5 or 6 pieces, but it's well worth the price just to have the experience.

  • Great footage. Loved seeing my car and dogs in there.

Just attached, under video response, is a newstory about the documentary I produced about Juliette. Also attached is the trailer. - neilliene

  • also favorite food, fried green tomatoes...

  • my all time favorite movie.

  • this is right down the road from my house!!!

  • love the tour, i was always curious as to where it was filmed, i actually live just outside of Valdosta, ga. you know they mention the city in the movie.

  • Wow!!! Another 5 star for you because I loved the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes." I enjoyed watching this video a lot. Thanks! ~Andree'

  • A wonderful movie that inspired me to become a screenwrter. Thanks Jim, for the tour! I'm not surprised you've received a lot of hits. This movie has somewhat of a loyal following.

  • Tamara thanks for watching! One of these days I need to do a little better homework and go back and do another video there. -Jim

  • Oh my gosh, I LOVE the movie Fried Green Tomatoes! I am so jealous you got to go to the Whistle Stop Cafe!!

Oh it's Idgie but I'm sure you remembered that later. :)

Did you ever find out if they are ever open and serving food? That would be so cool to go there to eat.

  • Thanks Sue. I think they are open for lunch during the week. I'll have to go back one of these days for lunch. -Jim

  • oh thanks!!! I love the movie... tonight was my first time watching and it was awesome...

  • thats cool ! id like to visit there someday. does anyone know know where the house is at the beginning of the movie ? i think that house is gorgeous ! i love that movie, its one of my favorite's !!!

  • Hahaha..I love how this guy never gets the main character's name right..First it's Izzie, then after seeing it written he's pronoucing it Iggie..love it- no malice intended- just thought it amusung for someone going out of their way to do a Whistlestop video tour :)

  • Actually it was spontaneous. I was driving through the area and decided to whip out the camera. That's why I screwed up all the names. LOL

  • its Idgie :)

  • her name Is Idgie....short for Imogene not Izzie or Iggy

  • Wish youtube was around when I was younger. I have tons of videos stashed away of this town, for I lived there back around 1993-1994. I've been in the cafe, down the railraod tracks, across the dam, and tons of fascinating places not shown in the film.

    :)

  • The "Whistle Stop Café" is loosely based on a real-life restaurant the Irondale Café in Irondale, Alabama. The restaurant is still in operation, and is something of a local tourist attraction thanks to the novel and movie. It is famous for its fried green tomatoes.

After the film became a hit, the set used as the Whistle Stop Café on location in Juliette, Georgia was converted into a real restaurant and is still a tourist attraction.

cool video didn't know where the movie was filmed

  • Thanks Ashley. I've always wanted to eat at the Irondale Cafe. I lived in B'ham for 4 years during college but never ate there.

  • You're not the only one lol

I lived in Alabama most of my life but moved last year when I was 17 and always knew about the cafe but never ate there was going to once but it was closed :(

  • No it's not. It's a fictional plce made up by Fannie Flag. It was not based on anything. Do your research first.

  • Cool, I would love to look around that old gift shop. I'm in WA state, but my Dad is from N. Carolina...I guess it is time to take my hubby on a tour of the South. I am sure enjoying your videos!

  • Hi, I am the present owner of The Whistle Stop Cafe and thank you for the brief video. We operate everyday, 11am to 4pm during winter months and extended hours during spring, summer and fall. Close only on New Years Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our Fried Green Tomatoes are featured items with Southern Living, Food Network and Georgia Traveler. We are featured in many countries such as Germany and Japan, as a must stop and see while visiting the South. phone 478 992-8886

  • Thanks so much for the comment and information. I've had so many people ask me if the cafe was still open and what the hours were. Hopefully this will generate some new business for you. I just drove through there one day and did a quick video on a whim and never imagined so many people would view it. I must apologize for getting some of the facts wrong. I'll post the cafe info over in the description box for this video.

  • My girlfriend loves the movie, I watched it for the first time tonight, it was great! I am thinking about taking a 500 mile road trip to come visit the town/your cafe. Are there hotels/motels? Does the city have a website?

  • The city was actually called "Glover" at the time the story took place. Whistle stop just meant it was a type of depot where trains didn't always call at for passengers. The city was renamed "Juliette" after the railroad (East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia, Later Georgia Central) came through the city in 1882. It was named for the daughter of the engineer building the RR, Juliette McCracken. McCracken Street also happens to be the name of the main street running through Juliette today.

  • does the cafe still open for bussines?

  • Just a simple comment: YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Thank you for this little tour. Thanks for thinking about others whom maybe never be able to make it there.

  • I don't think I ever see this video yet.

    I loved that movie.

    Kathy Bates was awesomely funny!

Jessica Tandy is sweet as she can be!

i have that movie on DVD.

  • You sound like Dr. Phil.

  • LOL I don't know if that's a compliment or insult. LOL -Jim

  • Oh, you should also mention that part of it was shot in High Falls State Park here too. I'm back in Georgia and I went to Juliette and I had a blast! I also went to Jarrell Plantation too for the 4th of July thing.

  • Hey Danielle. I need to do some research and go back and do it up right next time. Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • Oh that's interesting! I'll bet she could tell us all about the town. -Jim

  • I am so glad that someone else has a passion for Fried Green Tomatoes...the novel and the film are both outstanding....I have read the book numerous times.....and, of course, seen the movie countless.....thank you so much for posting this video.....

  • Tanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I actually caught the movie on TV again this past week. LOL -Jim

  • Jim--I love your visit to Juliette--makes me want to head to the kitchen and fry green tomatoes--what can I say--I'm a pig--food is very important to me!

    Terry

  • It's that time of year Terry. Glad you liked it! -Jim

  • Very interesting!

  • Burn this was just one of those videos done on the fly without much thought and it's been my most watched. It just goes to show that you never know what will interest people. LOL -Jim

  • It is funny how people's interests can vary from the expected. I bet the demographics for this video are surprising too. :)

  • yes you did great. your just misspronounceing the name iggy..

  • I loved that movie! I'm a classic buff what can I say! - AnGel ~ Baby

  • Good to see where it was filmed. I've seen the movie and read the book several times. I wish you would learn the names of the characters though! It's not Iggie, its Idgie. Besides her there's Ruth, George, Celie, Frank Bennett, the sister Leona, Buddy the brother, and a few others.

  • I have the movie on DVD and it's just wonderful, now I'm looking forward to going down to see the place up close and personal as soon as I can. Thanks for posting this, I really do appreciate it.

  • I used to live in Julliette,GA. It's beautiful there!

  • Isn't it funny how we can't predict what will be popular? Alex's 30 questions one was our first one to get an honor, and that as on a whim at midnight one night when he could't unwind enough to go to sleep. (Definitely my child....)

    Sandi

  • thats so cool, thanks for posting that!!

  • oh its one of my favourite films!! thank you x

  • Thats great. I love the movie and its interesting to see the actual location of its filming. Brings extra depth to the film that is otherwise ficticous. Thanks for going to the effort for this, to me at least it means alot and really that towns heart is still beating! Juliet Georgia, I will have to visit it one time.

  • I hope you get to visit Juliette one day. It's a great little town. Thanks for watching -Jim

  • I love the movie. I cry everytime.

Its Idgie, not Iggy or whatever the hell you said.

Question: If you are going to make a documentary or whatever, then why didn't you take the time to research first? I mean, you have it on VHS, and there is Wikipedia, and that IMBD site. I also have been wondering what that big 3 story building is.

Thanks for butchering the movie for millions of others.

  • It is Idgie. I have been meaning to drive through Juliette for a while now. On vacation from Ireland. =) I'm a Georgia gal.

  • Thanks for watching. Hope you get to see Juliette. -Jim

  • "iggie," hehe. thanks muchly for the sightseeing tour. i'm from the south and towns like that are everywhere, but there's only one whistle stop, that's for sure. as for fgt, it's a favorite film and reminds me of times gone by, and where i grew up, and what life is like down here, both good and bad. it's wonderful that the folks in juliette have preserved the cafe and still do business out of it. thanks again.

  • Yes, it's a great little town. Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • That is amazing - it doesn't look any different to how it did back in the film all those years ago. If I ever manage to get back to my old home in the US, I will definately try to visit Juliette - it looks beautiful.

  • Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. -Jim

  • it is Iggie.......not igie......pronounce it correctly....please...

  • I'm pretty sure its Idgie.Check IMDB.

  • I think you're right. Thanks. -Jim

  • I myself haven't been there yet, but I'm always looking for a good reason to go. And I hope to soon.
