Damn! Beethoven must have been absolutely furious when he wrote this! I wonder what got him so upset?? He was probably thinking, "I want to scare the hell out of everyone, so I'm going to write an ominous piece of music'. And this is what he came up with.
I just played this tonight! Halfway through I got that feeling you get when you've just been out in the rain... I felt like my hair was wet and I had to grab a towel. It was bizarre... As a brass player, I also think I might have deafened some woodwinds as well...
Grandioso pasaje de la Sinfonia. Es extraordinario porque es capaz de introducirte una tormenta en la mente, escuchas el piccolo y te imaginas los aires huracanados y miles de gotas que se arremolinan como olas enfurecidas del mar.
I love Gordan Nikolic, the Konzertmeister. The violin is not enough for him to express all what he wants to "say" or to transmit about this wonderful music...
me encanta el movimiento, la exprecion de los musicos es imprecionante, pareciera que la velocidad que se ve el video, la imagen no es real. FACINANTE
I have a feeling diminished sonorities sounded scarier in the nineteenth than they do now. Blame it on atonal music, I guess. Dissonance just ain't what it used to be. Too bad.
I've always felt Haitink is a bit too calculated and narrow, but his conducting technique is exemplary, probably the richest and most concise I've ever watched. He must save thousands of rehearsal hours with that alone.
Excellent - Haitink always conducts Beethoven very well and this LSO cycle certainly had some new and interesting things to say about this great music
Just amazing! Beethoven is the king of expression!

The first violin realy feels the music under his skin
volglizolic 6 months ago 2
@volglizolic Yes, it's like the violin is an extension of his body. He is ONE with his violin, and I think that's totally awesome. :-)

Haitink seems to get a much more alert response from the LSO's strings then Geigev manages. Likable performance by the old maestro.
