I just wanted to say... My generations tate in music SUCKS! I'm 12 years old and I listen to screamo and metal and stuff. All the other people in my shcool listen to crap like Justin Beiber and stuff like that. I'm terribly sorry for my generations taste.
@yamon98 so just cuz i listen to screamo doesn't mean i can't listen to any other genre!! Actually my favorite bands are kiss, metallica, acdc, and korn!
i truly love this band. im an old kitten, 37, and believe this band, and select others will truly be the ones that got me through so much crap in my past, and the crap that likes to come into my life even now. not a pity party kitten, just a realist. the b.s. people bring to me, the emotional and manipulative, and emotional i guess abuse of whatever wont turn me ever into a victim, but just this..stronger in time...and when tears are gone,i c who i am again, real, and worthy to be treated great
@kittykat19974 I absolutely agree with every word of yours...Im 37 also...jawbreaker helped me through so much of my past, and still does. your words mirror my feelings, and this great music is there for us, to take, like medication. good to hear a like mind on this.
@201088aa Nope, that's Blake from Jawbreaker singing, but Brenden Kelly did cover this song on his acoustic split with Joe McMahon, "Wasted Potential".
@ridintheconcretewave I'm straight edge too and I feel this song is easy to relate to because we all regret decisions we've made some where down the road that hurt someone we loved.
just found this song a week or so ago, ive been listening to it almost nonstop.... and i did it the old and normal way, reading random articles on wikipedia
Brendan Kelly has my favorite version of this song. I think that his version is as morose as the lyrics are. Great song no matter who covers it though. (Unless you're the Foo Fighters. Then you can go and fuck yourself. No offense.)
According to wiki his voice sounds the way it does because of a polyp that was in his throat. They did a tour even though the polyp could've killed him had it ruptured. If that's what the deal was then it adds the character to this song that makes it as good as it is. Rad and sad either way.
@gmx1100 Eh.... no to your no.... it says his vocals are mottled and choked because of a polyp. It's cited n everything but the source is from some dude who writes for spin... Just relaying info, dunno if it's true. I wasn't there and don't know these guys. As if it's even that important...
@gmx1100 I know this comment was from a month ago but, I came across a video on youtube of one of the Jawbreaker shows during the tour Blake had a polyp. It's interesting to go hunting for it to see just how much pain he had to endure. You can tell in his voice and he even had to stop for a song or two and let someone in the audience sing because of the pain.
Totally respect the lyrics of this song and the talent of Blake, but holy shit, the singing is unbearable. I want to like this song so bad, but the Foo just did it better.
@fairtrade182 everyone says they love the "emotion" in his voice. I just hear bad singing, no emotion at all. I do like the band but this song is just bad to me.
@XiuTheFeared - Lucero DOES do a great cover of this. The recorded version is excellent, but you should see it live. They did it in Houston back in Feb.
there's something about this song, the recording and how it meshes with the pure rawness of their sound blended with Blake's rough vocals that make it untouchable as far as covers are concerned. I heard the Foo's cover, and I give them props for covering it, but its just too polished. It lacks the heart of the original. Jawbreaker were in a class of their own. You can always take more from them each time you listen to them. They are so missed.
@jawallace1991 I don't normally comment on youtube videos...but it is currently 2:36 am, I am writing a term paper and listening to this song. You were 54 minutes short of completely blowing my fucking mind.
Anyone who thinks the Foo's cover of this song is bad is suffering from a mean case of Hipster. This disease is characterized by skinny jeans, clove cigs, a fear of beer/whiskey and a tendency to act like any and everything popular sucks.
The original is great, and both Lucero and the Foo's do it justice. And anyone who thinks Blaks can't sing never listened to any Jets to Brazil.
@apkoen luceros is a love of mine, have the basment tapes album, havent heard fpps, but i trust what you say, most people dont even have a clue about blake anyway man, its not hipsters, shit im a hipster, i keep up with music but i know what you mean... fakes, blah blah, catcher in the rye, they ruin it for us...
"At first I thought it was great that Lucero turned a punk tune into a country song, but after reading the lyrics I think Jawbreaker accidentally wrote a country song and played it punk." - Oz Or maybe on purpose!!!
I love this! I met Blake on Saturday and have been nostalgic ever since. His new band The Forgetters with the former drummer from Against Me! is very reminiscent of early Jawbreaker. This conjures such memories in me it's amazing. Jawbreaker lives in my heart!

@Animaduniversum Yeah, the people who say he is not a "good" singer" just miss the point. Punk rock is filled with great singers who don't have great voices. That is part of the appeal. Bob Mould(Husker Du), Joe Strummer(The Clash), Chuck Ragan(Hot Water Muusic), Mac(Superchunk), Ian and Guy(Fugazi), etc etc etc. Seriously, most of them just can't sing well in the traditional sense. It is all about the grit, the realism, the attitude, the will to sing even though you can't. That is punk rock.
@mresplendent darby crash didnt have a great voice either but he fucking rocked one of my favorite singers but joe stummer had a decent voice. but at anyrate what you said is 100% true.
@11jgm38 I would have guessed that too if you played this song for me and asked which Larry Arms singer you thought it was. But its Brendan. Check out his "Wasted Potential" split he did with Joe McMahon you'll be pleasantly surprised.
I like this version, but i wouldn't say that the Foo Fighters version is bad. They're two different styles of music, so of course it's going to sound different.
