Could I use this for my band to plug 2 mics into it and then run one of the line outs with a 1/4 cable into a PA speaker? Also will it be loud enough? (We're getting a 90 watt p.a. speaker for it to) My vocalist doesn't have a p.a. system or amp to plug his mic into so we're looking for a cheap solution, and I do guitar and back up vocals so I'll pitch in so we can both buy this but I don't really know a lot about mixers or preamps and all that stuff. Thanks to anyone if they answer!
I bought the Xenyx 802 and found two issues with it:
1. A bit noisy, no doubt due to using cheaper, more noisy integrated circuits;
2. The input impedance is so low (approx. 10K Ohms) that it degrades the tonal quality of electric & electro-acoustic guitars and dynamic mics.
So I now have to build a Tillman pre-amp that will provide a little low-noise gain and increase impedance to 3 meg-ohms. This mixer really should have at least one high impedance input (NOT a series resistor).
I hate to sound like others here, but I do wonder how this person--undoubtedly a good audio engineer, but a very poor presentation presence--became the presenter in this video. Confident posture, clear description, and a professional appearance would be a refreshing change from this rather poorly-prepared guy. Sorry, fella. I'm sure you're a great audio engineer.
Smart ones, you complain too much for little knowlage. You're suppose to get something nice like the Yamaha Audiogram3. That way this so called "shitty mixer" is just used to add more of a controlled EQ when recording. I'm a rapper and I learned to do that ;)
It is a really nice mixer if you know how to use it.
This mixer is pure shit. Don't buy one. It is a complete failure. Behringer ripped off the Mackie 1202 and did a terrible job. The graphics look similar but that's where the resemblance ends. This board has no on/off switch to begin with you have to unplug the POS power supply cable just to turn it off. The headroom is terrible too. The thing clips with even the most moderate of input gain. When you add more gain this turd turns into a square wave generator. Don't buy this product.
hey bro if i buy this would it wok with m-audio fast track with 48v it has the usb connector and the 48v switcher and the two outputs its a red and a white one...how would i use this to connect the mixer and protools together????..please comment back!!!
Are you people retarded? Or just lazy... stop asking someone else to figure the product out for you and READ THE F##CKIN' manual!!!! Do you need a tutorial on everything? Experiment and learn how to EQ yourself, if you sound bad don't you think it might be your signal chain or mic? That's why you'll never make it very far in life- you're too damn lazy to even attempt to WORK towards anything that gives you even a little bit of a learning curve... losers.

@capthook1 have you even looked at the manual provided by Behringer? it's the same manual for all models of the xenyx series and they hardly provide any diagrams specific to the 802. It's not that people are lazy, it's just that they'd rather not have to read loads of information irrelevant for this model. You really should have looked at the manual before going off on an attack on people

darkriver29 - Thanks for the reply. Hadn't thought about the computer route. I was thinking there may be a way to adjust the frequency with a MIxer to keep from getting the distortion. New at this.
I'm feeding an electric drumset via a drum module into a microphone-in jack on my camcorder. The bass drum is overwelming distorted. Will a mixer (or anything) help in bring down the bass? Any details as to what type of controls needed for this would help. Thanks.
Some people are able to create a video of themselves playing edrums, Piano, bass, etc, and get the good stereo studio-like sound at the same time. I'm just wanting to know what it takes to get the same effect. I can get good sound on high-drums but not on bass-drum.
@jerrware It's just possible that the Camcorder isn't able to record that low of frequencies, What does Bass sound like in it? Best thing to do would be to record the audio into the computer at the same time of recording via camcorder.
i agree they make great products but their marketing stinks and their manuals and instructions are terrible its like they don't want people to buy their products.
Behringer totally ticks me off. They sell me product which looks like it should be good(xenyx 802). I use this mixer with a ucontrol usb audio interface and i have been impressed with this mixer i use to not be able to record due to crappy sound card quality on my comp that being realtek but this solves everything with a ucontrol and condenser mics etc.
I bought this mixer mainly use for karaoke purpose. Does this mixer produce echo effect? I could get echo effect from it. Could someone shed some light on how to? - Very appreciate!!

@light12346 It can but it requires some work. Make it easier on yourself and get the xenyx 1202fx or up. Those have a usb audio interface built in and if you buy one berihnger lets you download their audio sequencing software for free.
HEY READ THIS BEFORE U BUY. this is a great mixer no doubt, but the power cord is trash. yes, the power cord. i got this and a month later it broke. this is because the dum asses that work a Behringer made the end of the power chord to the mixer just like the kind u plug ur keyboard into the back of ur computer. no not a usb. but the one with the little prongs. so if u buy it, just plug the end that goes to ur mixer in, and tape it or somethin and turn it on and off through the wall socket.

I have my Shure PG48 dynamic microphone connected to the 802, and that one is connected to my PC for voice recording (not singing) and it works just wonderful. Without the 802, I would only get very quiet recordings. Only problem I had with this product is the VERY bright blue LED and somewhat warped body. I fixed this with a little cap over the LED to dim it and some rubber feet to keep it from wobbling.
Other than that, a good product with a very nice price.
how do you hear the sound from the pc? i have the mic connected to the 802 and can record on my pc, but how do i hear the background music coming from the pc?
If you do it will sound crappy get a dj mixer then rout to a mixer like this It will sound crapy if its directly in to a standard mixer theres ground wires on a modern turntable the cuts out the distortion and if you havt that hooked up to a mixer i should sound great
For all the people saying this mixer sucks because of all the white noise. Its not the mixers fault it yours or your sound cards.Get some audio interface.
could i use this for my three man band (trio)? I play guitar (i will run the output on my amp into here) there's a bass (the same) electronic drums and i sing. would this work? thanks for any replies
i use this mixer and a Behringer b1 condenser mic and record on cool edit pro and my recording quality is perfect. I couldnt possible want or need it any clearer. obviously u have to tweak and add effects onto the mic to get the desired sound but once ive added the effects on cool edit. By mic sounds warm and crisp, and no static/white noise behind it. Cant complain for only spending £145 for both items brand new :)
do not buy this mixer!!!!!! It has the worst sound quality ive ever heard..TONS of white noise. Its only $60 for a reason!...That being said, anybody need a door prop?
Rrrright, that makes sense :-D Although I also wonder about the wisdom of demoing audio anything on Youtube, with it's horrible high-rate lossy audio compression that makes the highs sound like broken glass through a cheap distortion pedal :P
Actually I ended up buying one of these mixers second hand since. "You get what you pay for" comes to my mind. The pots (gain, volume) offer far more gain than what you could sensibly use due to the noise of the unit, so don't expect miracles. In fact, you could really use it for generating white noise (with British EQ, yay!) But it does work as an utility mixer, especially if you don't intend to record its output, or if the signals you mix are already loud so you aren't adding too much noise.
Uhmm, yeah, that's either your sound card, mic, or mic cable. If you had any idea what you were doing, you would know that you never want to use the board's effects. Ever. Go get yourself reaper, Live Wire cables, a good mic and a good sound card. And then come back and bitch about it.
Well, I'd beg to differ. If I simply connect the mixer to my monitors (or plug in a headphone), and leave the inputs of the mixer unconnected, then turn any of the gain or volume pots up over halfway, I start to get hiss. If I turn it over 3/4 of the way, it gets quite bad.
So that's leaving the quality of sound card or mic question out of the equation. I do not think that connecting any microphone would make preamp noise less bad (my StudioProjects B1 is a pretty nice mic for a chinese one but it won't reduce preamp noise that is there already, a good mic might just add less of its own)
On the other hand, normally you don' t need to turn the gain up so much that it hisses. So in a real-life situation you won't get much noise. But Behringer boast about how much gain the unit has -- gain you can't use it because of the noise. And first time you hear it, it is quite shocking to be honest. Makes you wonder how much of it will become audible on your recording after you've added compression and a ton of other effects (all of which tend to bring up noise).
You do realize that the power cable makes noise if it's anywhere near the mic inputs right? Try moving that AWAY from the mixer. And you didn't say anything about the mic cables. Those are a bit important and usually are the suspects of white noise. Try that out and tell me how it works.
Not sure about the power cable but I think it's not routed near the preamp section. Regarding mic cables I already said: "If I simply connect the mixer to my monitors (or plug in a headphone), and leave the inputs of the mixer unconnected, then turn any of the gain or volume pots up over halfway, I start to get hiss. If I turn it over 3/4 of the way, it gets quite bad."
I'll see if moving things around will make a difference but I don't think so.
Are you talking to me? Mate, I've been in the recording industry longer than you've been alive. Don't argue with me about my advice giving tactics. You wouldn't even know what reel to reel was if it kicked you in the arse. Fuck off.
Are you bipolar? If you haven't been diagnosed, I reccomend you do. You'll never get through life calling people who try assist others "Pompous little pricks". There is medicine for people like you. Get help. I'm not trying to be a dick, I just want to help you out mate.
You could use a pair of powered studio monitors and you would not need a power amp to use this mixer then to monitor your music. The power amp only supplies power to the speakers, the mixer is for inputing instruments and mics and mixing the sounds together. If you want to monitor your music with headphones then you would not need a power amp. You could plug the phones right into the mixer and listen. For PA system you use run main outputs to the inputs on your amp then speakers to amp outputs.
hey i got a question how do i hook up my mic to the mixer nd use it in pro tools nd wat eva i got my mbox 2 so i need on wat i need to do can anyone help thank you
how do you record with this baby... i have had it for a while but dont know how to record ive been using it as a live music practice... yes call me stupid but it wasnt that bad
I got a question (this goes out to everyone, feel free to answer).
I have brought this product/Mixer and it is really good. I have just thought of something, If i wanted to record, say "Chorus/Hook, Verse 1, Verse 2, Verse 3 and Stacking Vocals Voice." Now, as you see, on the mix board, there are only 4 Sections/strips. If i wanted 5 Strips, should i go out and get a 5 or 6 strip mixer? I dont want to do that cause it's too much.
Help Me!!! I need to buy equipment for an acoustic night that I'm starting. So far I've got some speakers and an amp but need a 2/3 channel mixer. This seems to the job but where do you plug the speakers/amplifier in? Also, will I have to use the seperate amplifier or will this power my setup? Many thanks. T
I just picked up one of these and I can't wait to use it with my two MIDI modules. The only thing stopping me right now is I need to get a new MIDI interface that can handle more than one keyboard. I was cheap and picked up an M-Audio Uno interface, and I'm paying for it now that I have more than one MIDI module. I can only use one at a time.
I suspect that you'll probably have to set them in a couple different places. First, on the mixer to make sure you're not going into the red there, then in whatever DAW program you're using. If you're going into the red anywhere, you're too hot. It's not like with Analog where going red was a good thing. Going red with digital is a bad thing--unless you're Trent Reznor.
i have it, works good. i bought a 5 dollar rca to 1/8th cable. goes directly into my cpu soundcard. i could also connect it so it controls my software better but that takes another cable and adapter.
now i can record a whole room full of noise way away from the mic.
does this have built in audio interface or how does it plug in computer. please tell before i buy thanks.

i got a camcorder with this mixer... what do you need to connect to record the audio from an external condenser mic, and what do you connect to?
krnxaja 2 years ago
I have my Shure PG48 dynamic microphone connected to the 802, and that one is connected to my PC for voice recording (not singing) and it works just wonderful. Without the 802, I would only get very quiet recordings. Only problem I had with this product is the VERY bright blue LED and somewhat warped body. I fixed this with a little cap over the LED to dim it and some rubber feet to keep it from wobbling.
Other than that, a good product with a very nice price.

how do you hear the sound from the pc? i have the mic connected to the 802 and can record on my pc, but how do i hear the background music coming from the pc?

could i plug a turntable directly into this mixer, or do i still have to route it through a dj mixer (phono input) first?
diLattinho 2 years ago
If you do it will sound crappy get a dj mixer then rout to a mixer like this It will sound crapy if its directly in to a standard mixer theres ground wires on a modern turntable the cuts out the distortion and if you havt that hooked up to a mixer i should sound great
So
Turntable into dj mixer
dj mixer in Xenyx 802 Mixer

would this work as a usb guitar interface?????????
DavidMBlack 2 years ago
For all the people saying this mixer sucks because of all the white noise. Its not the mixers fault it yours or your sound cards.Get some audio interface.

could i use this for my three man band (trio)? I play guitar (i will run the output on my amp into here) there's a bass (the same) electronic drums and i sing. would this work? thanks for any replies

Could I use this instead of a sound card or interface?
FattyArbuckle1981 2 years ago
i use this mixer and a Behringer b1 condenser mic and record on cool edit pro and my recording quality is perfect. I couldnt possible want or need it any clearer. obviously u have to tweak and add effects onto the mic to get the desired sound but once ive added the effects on cool edit. By mic sounds warm and crisp, and no static/white noise behind it. Cant complain for only spending £145 for both items brand new :)
20shawry06 2 years ago
do not buy this mixer!!!!!! It has the worst sound quality ive ever heard..TONS of white noise. Its only $60 for a reason!...That being said, anybody need a door prop?

Hmm, doesn't the word "DEMO" imply that you are showing it *in use*?
avatarzenekar 2 years ago 43
they dont want to use it live because of its poor sound quality...
kbent88 2 years ago
Rrrright, that makes sense :-D Although I also wonder about the wisdom of demoing audio anything on Youtube, with it's horrible high-rate lossy audio compression that makes the highs sound like broken glass through a cheap distortion pedal :P
avatarzenekar 2 years ago
Actually I ended up buying one of these mixers second hand since. "You get what you pay for" comes to my mind. The pots (gain, volume) offer far more gain than what you could sensibly use due to the noise of the unit, so don't expect miracles. In fact, you could really use it for generating white noise (with British EQ, yay!) But it does work as an utility mixer, especially if you don't intend to record its output, or if the signals you mix are already loud so you aren't adding too much noise.
avatarzenekar 2 years ago
Uhmm, yeah, that's either your sound card, mic, or mic cable. If you had any idea what you were doing, you would know that you never want to use the board's effects. Ever. Go get yourself reaper, Live Wire cables, a good mic and a good sound card. And then come back and bitch about it.
chrian31410 2 years ago
Well, I'd beg to differ. If I simply connect the mixer to my monitors (or plug in a headphone), and leave the inputs of the mixer unconnected, then turn any of the gain or volume pots up over halfway, I start to get hiss. If I turn it over 3/4 of the way, it gets quite bad.
avatarzenekar 2 years ago
So that's leaving the quality of sound card or mic question out of the equation. I do not think that connecting any microphone would make preamp noise less bad (my StudioProjects B1 is a pretty nice mic for a chinese one but it won't reduce preamp noise that is there already, a good mic might just add less of its own)
avatarzenekar 2 years ago
On the other hand, normally you don' t need to turn the gain up so much that it hisses. So in a real-life situation you won't get much noise. But Behringer boast about how much gain the unit has -- gain you can't use it because of the noise. And first time you hear it, it is quite shocking to be honest. Makes you wonder how much of it will become audible on your recording after you've added compression and a ton of other effects (all of which tend to bring up noise).
avatarzenekar 2 years ago
You do realize that the power cable makes noise if it's anywhere near the mic inputs right? Try moving that AWAY from the mixer. And you didn't say anything about the mic cables. Those are a bit important and usually are the suspects of white noise. Try that out and tell me how it works.
chrian31410 2 years ago
Hi,
Not sure about the power cable but I think it's not routed near the preamp section.

Do you need a power amp for that?

ahmedzup 3 years ago
I got a question (this goes out to everyone, feel free to answer).
I have brought this product/Mixer and it is really good. I have just thought of something, If i wanted to record, say "Chorus/Hook, Verse 1, Verse 2, Verse 3 and Stacking Vocals Voice." Now, as you see, on the mix board, there are only 4 Sections/strips. If i wanted 5 Strips, should i go out and get a 5 or 6 strip mixer? I dont want to do that cause it's too much.
Kind regards and respect.

thebowers99 3 years ago
I just picked up one of these and I can't wait to use it with my two MIDI modules. The only thing stopping me right now is I need to get a new MIDI interface that can handle more than one keyboard. I was cheap and picked up an M-Audio Uno interface, and I'm paying for it now that I have more than one MIDI module. I can only use one at a time.

Just use the CD out on the Mixer.
You will need to use a cord that you can get @ Radio Shack or Fry's.
It has R/L RCA Jacks on one end and, and Stereo Line input on the other end.

ok how do u fund the right levels to records vocals? can u help me"?>
lokote90 3 years ago
I suspect that you'll probably have to set them in a couple different places. First, on the mixer to make sure you're not going into the red there, then in whatever DAW program you're using. If you're going into the red anywhere, you're too hot. It's not like with Analog where going red was a good thing. Going red with digital is a bad thing--unless you're Trent Reznor.
cubdukat 3 years ago
Where do I plug the red and white rca cables? Do I need one or two? I want to start recording soon but I can't figure this ish out.

i have it, works good. i bought a 5 dollar rca to 1/8th cable. goes directly into my cpu soundcard. i could also connect it so it controls my software better but that takes another cable and adapter.
now i can record a whole room full of noise way away from the mic.
