I live in Hong Kong and to see this isn't a surprise. Hong Kong roads are basically a free for all, if you don't push out onto the road you will never get anywhere. Also, people are awful drivers to say the least, the have no thought of other people and will simply drive into you. However this guy actually stopped, ive seen a lot worse when people just drove away after knocking someone off a bike. Not all drivers are bad, but if you come and observe, its a mine field for the new driver.
At 00:35 on the video the scooter driver pulled in front of the car and locked up hi brakes. It's the scooter driver's fault for causing the accident. I think he saw the car and intended to make it appear like an accident with the car driver at fault but he set him up.

This is what happens when idiots collide. The guy in the car is speeding, passing on the right, not anticipating that the rider might just change lanes. The rider starts to move over without looking first. He looks after he's already changing lanes, then insted of swerving back into his lane or hitting the gas, he panics, slows down and just waits to get hit.. They both deserve what they got.

Driver was at fault he was driving to fast, its hard to to judge the speed of a vehicle that is speeding, the guy on the scooter probably figured the distance between him and the car was far enough to change lanes,however the distance is closing fast because the car is going faster than he estimated.
Any intelligent driver would know that if traffic is moving slowly in the other lane, and YOUR lane is the only open lane, that this is a GUARANTEE vehicles in the slow lane will unexpectedly pull into your open lane.
It's human nature: driver sees open space and wants to be in that open space NOW.
A smart person would be looking for that to happen and not accelerate to 3 times the speed of the slow lane.
The man on the scooter had a perfect view from his mirror on the right, but he was changing lane before he turn his head. He only turned his head because of the noise from the horn. When he sees the car, he is slowing down ?!? That´s two big fails from him and he is so lucky to be able to walk away with a few scratches...
The car driver has a strange relation to speed... He drives the car well into the gears and changing gears shortly before impact.
- The driver of the car had put the car in neutral and brakes used in place of the horn! Using the horn took 1 second, the time he could have used to brake in. - The man on the scooter should have turned his head before he was planning to change lanes. Not slow down when he is out in the fast lane !
That wasn't the drivers fault yet the police say it will the dumbass motorcyclist didn't check and if you all look the car that was in front of him before the accident was passing everyone also. He slammed on his brakes for no reason causing the accident to be worse.

It took both parties to make the accident, as an ex-scooter driver and car driver you must understand if you listen to the taxi's engine it sounds like he is in a rally or something. Scooter definitely did not look before he come out into the fast lane but any sensible driver would have been able to brake in time. The taxi driver should have easily been doing over 100 when it should be 70-80KM max on that stretch of highway.

Is there a potential money motive behind these types of accidents in Hong Kong? The scooter rider almost seemed to be trying to have an accident. He didn't use his turn signal while changing lanes, looked back to obviously see the approaching car, and then braked directly in front of that car. Without the video, he could have easily claimed something other than what actually happened.

In addition, at the end, the motorcyclist tells the driver to leave but the driver doesn't as his car was damaged in the incident..you have to understand Chinese to hear that. The motorcyclist did not want police involved as he understood it was his fault, for the most part. Hope that clears it up.
The motorcyclist shouldn't have braked in the first place. That was why the accident happened. The vehicle driver was in the fast lane, obviously he didn't have time to react when he saw the motorcyclist. He (the motorcyclist) was lucky that he didn't get killed. If this accident had happened in Malaysia, then he would be dead within seconds because everyone is speeding on the highway, slow lane, middle lane, fast lane, all are used for speeding...

The gentleman on/off the scooter seems to be remarkably unhurt......good for him. He also seems to be saying "No,No, dont call the police its only a scratch, I'll fix your car up". Perhaps he has experience of accidents and a high insurance rate.

@FraAngelico729 You are again, misinformed. The right lane in Hong Kong (where this incident occured) is the fast lane. If you merge a few inches ahead of someone's car that is travelling in the fast lane, regardless of whether he is speeding or not, and then decide to brake randomly, you deserve to get hit. It doesn't matter whether he was speeding or not; the car had the right of way. It is the merging person's responsiblity to check for traffic before making a mergeing move.

Driver was at fault he was driving to fast, its hard to to judge the speed of a vehicle that is speeding, the guy on the scooter probably figured the distance between him and the car was far enough to change lanes,however the distance is closing fast because the car is going faster than he estimated.

Any intelligent driver would know that if traffic is moving slowly in the other lane, and YOUR lane is the only open lane, that this is a GUARANTEE vehicles in the slow lane will unexpectedly pull into your open lane.
It's human nature: driver sees open space and wants to be in that open space NOW.
A smart person would be looking for that to happen and not accelerate to 3 times the speed of the slow lane.

The man on the scooter had a perfect view from his mirror on the right, but he was changing lane before he turn his head. He only turned his head because of the noise from the horn. When he sees the car, he is slowing down ?!? That´s two big fails from him and he is so lucky to be able to walk away with a few scratches...
The car driver has a strange relation to speed... He drives the car well into the gears and changing gears shortly before impact.

Using the horn took 1 second, the time he could have used to brake in. - The man on the scooter should have turned his head before he was planning to change lanes. Not slow down when he is out in the fast lane !

@GusUngar do you have a drivers licence? He drove in front of a car and hit the brakes. The fast lane over there is the right lane. It's 100% fault of the guy on that scooter. What if the car driver tryed to avoid the bike hit the wall and got injured. What would you say then? You never hit someone driving in your lane. If he drives from a slower lane to the fast lane it's all his fault. If he also brakes in front of a car he is a dangerous idiot and he should never drive again.

It took both parties to make the accident, as an ex-scooter driver and car driver you must understand if you listen to the taxi's engine it sounds like he is in a rally or something. Scooter definitely did not look before he come out into the fast lane but any sensible driver would have been able to brake in time. The taxi driver should have easily been doing over 100 when it should be 70-80KM max on that stretch of highway.

Is there a potential money motive behind these types of accidents in Hong Kong? The scooter rider almost seemed to be trying to have an accident. He didn't use his turn signal while changing lanes, looked back to obviously see the approaching car, and then braked directly in front of that car. Without the video, he could have easily claimed something other than what actually happened.

@stewartx5 That guy was wearing a T-shirt, shorts and sandals. What makes you think he got hit on purpose? He would have at least put on leather gear. In addition, at the end, the motorcyclist tells the driver to leave but the driver doesn't as his car was damaged in the incident..you have to understand Chinese to hear that. The motorcyclist did not want police involved as he understood it was his fault, for the most part. Hope that clears it up.

The motorcyclist shouldn't have braked in the first place. That was why the accident happened. The vehicle driver was in the fast lane, obviously he didn't have time to react when he saw the motorcyclist. He (the motorcyclist) was lucky that he didn't get killed. If this accident had happened in Malaysia, then he would be dead within seconds because everyone is speeding on the highway, slow lane, middle lane, fast lane, all are used for speeding...
