If a company negotiates with a private investor, the investor can impose conditions. Thinks like: cut your workforce, reduce your expenses, higher a controller we trust etc. That's common practice, and the company can take it or leave it. The same applies when the company is asking the government to finance them.

im European and everyone i know is positive towards Obama (and really happy to be rid of bush and Lord Cheney)
but a lot of people here are still kinda skeptical towards Americans in general these days and the arrogant "control the worldish" attitude :P
you guys still have soldiers posted all over Europe from ww2, still don't know why, its like the french keeping soldiers in USA after helping you all in the revolution.

I think troops in Europe might have something to do with the Cold War. And the Cold War aint over, or at least there is something going down. U.S. troops surround Russian closer and closer since the Iron Curtain fell. Oh, and if the British Empire can control even a 3rd of the world, I think the U.S. stands a good shot... unless something prevents them. I think here Russia isnt gonna just let the U.S. and the West walk all over them.

its not like europe cant defend itself now, and the cold war is over here at least and we now both trade and cooperate with the Russians.
they are getting more support and trust while America has turned more isolationist and messed up its reputation almost non-stop since Vietnam.
a lot of things could easily stop America, there are simply too many of you to survive a sanction in the form of full trade stop.

While i agree with you on some things there, i do completely disagree with the america is becoming isolationist statement. If anything, we have been becoming less and less for the past 20 years. Considering were in a war in a completely foreign country half way across the world to "preserve peace" there, and if you say its to protect oil reserves, it's also applicable because that is to protect foreign trade. Also consider the HUGE amount of resources and even manufactured products we import.

No Bush was hated by the Europeans or well hated is a strong word but he wasent popular atleast. Obamas politics is much closer to Europes then the republicans. They did several polls before the election with questions like "Who would you rather see as president in the us" Obama got like 80-90% on the ones i saw atleast.

To the question of why fire the GM CEOs and not the banking CEOs. A possible response could be this;
The issues that GM have are not systematic, they are results of specific issues with the GM company (compounded with the drop in demand - which is systematic).
The issues affecting the banks, on the other hand, are caused by systematic factors, (factors affecting the entire financial industry) issues resulting from mistakes made in almost the entire industry.

But if they take away GM workers pension, there should be a revolt because all the CEO and other bankers get their pay and bonus AND pension. and if the middle class gets screwed again. then thats the last straw !!! i dont care if its republicans pushing for this, Obama will lose my support if he takes the workers pension away from them.

Also, at the end, Cenk asked why CEOs of other companies were not fired.
I ahven't done research on the rest of them, but AIG has a new CEO, and most of the people that made the types of deals that sank the ship, are also gone.
