The song just basically describes the contradictiveness of life and its qualities will the undertone is love (una palabra = one word, and the word for this song is love). The song says love as a word is nothing but the artist (Carlos Varela) says without love he is nothing. So that's basically why this song was used in the movie. There's more depth with the song, but I was just describing why it was picked to be used in the movie.
