  • As a long-time (former) street racer, the only people that ever make comments like It's not a V8 or some other shit, are the ones that haven't spent 10 damn seconds around either of these cars and are therefore talking out of their ASSES.   • Ugh some of you are just stupid! A 3.4 v6 Camaro is not going to keep up with a 3.8 Buick, much less one that SUPERCHARGED as this one in the video is. This Regal's second gear runs out around 85-90mph, and it got their A LOT faster than a 3.4 or 3.8 v6 Camaro will. I had a 3.4 Camaro a couple years ago, and it was a slow POS! Arguments over.

  • @MrRittermn Yes the regal gs is a supercharged 3.8L rated at 240hp and 280ft.lbs of torque. With the mods he mentions it has, it is probably about 300hp and 350ft.lbs or torque. They are sister cars to the Grand Prix GTP which has the same motor and ratings. Great sleepers and very comfy.

  • Horrible gas mileage? I have two 3800 series, a series II, and a series I, and both get over 27 MPG. I had another series II in a 96 Regal Custom, and that was netting me 28 going back and forth to work.

  • @like73ninjas Actually it's 240hp/280ft-lb tourqe stock in the regal gs. It ways just 300 lbs more than the camaro. Stock to stock the gs beats any f-body v6.

In fact they actually make a top swap kit to supercharge naturally aspirated 3.8's However, if it was a modded 3.8 it would sound like that regal does. Since it is quiet it must be a near stock V8. I had an 02 SS slp stage 2 (345hp) and even with that much power it wasn't loud unless I really got on it (even then it wasn't loud). That Z would be quieter than my SS would be with a similar cat back system

  • @TheSethDavis So you have some experience with v8 Camaros. 4th gens are pretty quiet, but listen to this Camaro. It sounds very v6-like to me. I currently own a 79 z28 and it sounds like a monster compared to these two, so it's hard for me to tell honestly... but I've heard stock 4 cylinder economy cars that sounded meaner than that Camaro. It's weird how quiet stock exhausts are nowadays... I'll never understand why people would want it that way.

  • @like73ninjas Yeah they are crazy quiet. My Camaro at a red light made no noise at all. I had 6cyl mustangs and stuff try to race me all the time probably thinking I was just a 6cyl with a ss hood and spoiler (also had dual oval tips coming out the center). It didn't work out too well for them :) Another thing I think is throwing people off is how loud the 3.8L is. The 3.8 w/o res is a very loud car especially when whine kicks in. I think the Camaro is actually probably louder than we think.

  • @TheSethDavis Moral of the story... if you want a muscle car that sounds muscular, don't get a 4th gen Camaro. Have you heard how quiet new Trucks are? My brother has an 01 Silverado with the 5.3 it does make some noise when you open it all the way up. I test drove a 2010 exactly like his and it was fast but damn, I really couldn't hear a thing. It makes me sad :-(

  • @like73ninjas Exactly. New Chevy's act tough, they just don't sound it. Nothing a flowmaster wouldn't fix though. My dad drives and 05 tahoe with the 5.3. It certainly is a beast of a truck but quiet as can be. He likes it that way though, me personally I would make it sound a little louder. I liked my Camaro quiet simply because it almost made it a sleeper. I guess I don't mind them quiet stock. It is easier to make one more aggressive sounding than more aggressive acting.

  • @like73ninjas Sold the Camaro b/c the insurance and monthly payments were killing me. Did a lot of research and found the w body gm was a good deal. I was able to buy it with cash (no car payment and dont need full coverage insurance!) In translation: I found me a nice 99 Buick Regal GSE (supercharged of course). My regal has nothing on my old Camaro performance wise, but is a lot more comfortable and quiet. Much more practical and still pretty fun to drive. Easy and cheap to mod too.

I can't stand 4 door vehicles that aren't trucks... So if I were you I would swap a big block Chevy into your Regal and twin turbo it lol. That would make up for those 2 extra doors. :-)

  • @TheSethDavis Beautiful... I was looking at a $4,000 GNX that was in decent shape was I was looking for a car but then I saw the Camaro... it's a 1979 Z28, repainted PPG Viper Blue. The body is perfect condition, but there was no interior in it. The guy who was selling it had the interior seperate but he took it out to put a roll cage in, and the floor panels were cut out a bit. Now it's getting close to perfect condition with nearly all original interior, full built 350 bored over...

  • @pokerstone Fiction is gay... Yes, those stock times are pretty cool and all, but we can't see under the hoods of these cars. Never expect both cars to be stock in any race, ever. I don't know much about the Buicks becuase I've never been into them that much, however I know the Z28 is only hard to launch for an amateur driver. So thanks bunches for posting useless bullshit! :-)

(Not the supercharged, so I guess it's the 205 horsepower one.) So yeah... I should stop assuming stuff but I'm too lazy to look up the facts.

  • @regalgs1 There's a Camaro right down the street from me that has a 3.4 and a 6 speed. It doesn't matter what the fuck it came with in the factory, cars aren't limited to only what they came with. We also can't see under the hood of this Camaro, so it could be a v6 or v8. It sounds like a v6.

LS1 6spd will lay out 315whp on a dynojet and on occassion pull 13.0@105+mph easy. im not accurate on my speed but i know their capabilities.Also my bad on my original post a few down, i mean't LT1 would only be a bit quicker if not same as a regal GS. and high to mid 13's for a regal GSX with the mods.

  • 6-speed manual vs. 4-speed auto. This is why the Camaro pulls ahead in 3rd gear - it's got about a 1.4:1 ratio, while the Regal is in straight 1:1 by then.

  • @der1488 Well it does say that its a 6spd, which is exclusive to the LT1's for 93-97, so it cant be a 6spd if its a v6. And second, an L67 like this with those mods is easily a 13sec car; and even a 3.8/5 spd 4th gen wont hit 13s from just an intake/exh/tune and minimal weight reduction like this camaro has. This was a z28.

  • I had a 1998 pontiac bonneville SSEI with the supercharged 3.8 V6, Its was pretty quick for a big car with a V6 it suprised alot of people. im pretty sure this has the same engine.

    only thing hes done to it is put a smaller pulley on the supercharger, he was gonna get an exhaust system but he decided it was gonna be to loud haha

  • @lurch1489 the gsx came with a 3.4 pulley from slp with only an air box, cat back system, and mild ecm rewrite. The air box and cat back would drop outlet temps maybe 25 degrees, and another 10 on the ecm mod. If gin lives in a colder climate a 3.4 would be fine, especially with a colder spark plug and/or aftermarket air filter. But we can speculate all day. End result is still the same: GS is one mean 4 door!

  • @TheSethDavis Well you are almost right, those were options, however only a 3.5 pulley was offered. 1.8 rockers were offered as well as Headers and downpipe with high flow cat.

    however, the car we were talking about is just a GS with a 3.4 pulley which usually = KR out the ass.

  • I suppose comparing the gross vehicle weights and torque might say something. Camaro HP 275 @ 5000 Torque 325 @ 2000 curb weight 3440 1/4 mile 14.9 Regal GS 240 HP @ 5200 Torque 280 @ 3600 curb weight 3595 1/4 mile 15.5 seconds I think that would change with a power chip?
  • Regal had mods. Smaller pulley for more boost, downpipe to relieve exhaust backpressure and heat, an intake and a tune.

    I know I have a V6 Camaro with the 3.8 and also one of my employees had a Regal GS and we used to play around quite often.

    I would agree that a 240hp GS would walk a V6 but you have to take into consideration the driver. If you don't have a good driver it doesn't matter whats under the hood.

    Also in the video I didn't hear a V8 but I could be wrong.

  • Apparently you didn't watch the video. The Regal is an Auto, meaning the only driver mod needed is at launch where it clearly beat the Camaro on. Watch my videos. I've got one of me racing an LS1 and taking it off the line, and you can definately tell it's a v8

  • YES YOU DID-and thats not a Z28, the z28 LT1 was rated at 285+the mods=somewere around 310hp, then the gearing takes over and the camaro should walk the regal

  • And, with those mods the Regal has ~300HP. an a custom tune which makes a huge difference in power band. Not to mention the 3.29 gears. And, if you didn't watch the fucking video, the Z28 does pull away on top end, as expected. But, perhaps you were too busy being a dumb fuck to notice.
