This is actually the sequel of Tower of Druaga. And there were two console only related games for the Famicom and Super Famicom, one taking place before Tower of Druaga where you play as Ki going through the tower to get the Blue Crystal Rod (and spoiler warning, failing, end spoiler warning), and one taking place after this game (Return of Ishtar) that is a type of adventure game.

so was this game hard to get used to and whats with the other guy every room you go into he just sits in the corner

You can control both characters, Gil and Ki, but Ki here is controlled more.

The game is designed to be a co-op game, but unless you have two people playing (both on the same credit according to the MAME rom), it would be easier to place Gil in the corner since the camera focuses on Ki (that and one hit will kill her).
