Excellent vid, thanks... the beginning had me wondering, though. I certainly didn't remember it being *that* easy to pass the back markers. I mean, yeah, it was relatively easy, then you'd get to the top 4-5 and stall out.
Maybe my memory's just shot, though. That's also possible. hahah Thanks for posting... I only remember winning finishing first twice in this game, and was quite bummed out when I never got a free game for my efforts. :(
Well, The original Arcade version has a steering wheel that is near what a Logitech G25 or G27 is capable. That wheel is comfortable and a little more sensitive and with quick response than a lot of cheaper wheels for US$ 70,00 in stores.
@TheUnbiasedGamer - Sadly, Indy 500 never got a home port. The only way to play this game is to emulate it in ElSemi's Model 2 Emulator. However, the emulation isn't perfect. Either that, or the ROM that's been dumped is slightly different from the one I've seen in all Indy 500 cabinets I've played. Some things are different on the cabinets I've played, such as the rolling start, which starts further back and with your car in 6th gear. Also, the name entry screen is introduced differently.
My local Gameworks has 8 of the "moving seat" versions all together, and it's a blast! I never see any of the tracks besides Indy 500 because everyone votes for Indy 500 every time!
-Go to "Game Assignments" by pressing F1 until the cursor reaches there, then press F2
-Change your car's color/number by changing "Cabinet ID" to any value between 1(default) and 8(I set mine to 2). Use F1 to move the cursor and press F2 to change the ID of your "machine"
The precursor to Daytona USA. Man, Sega had such vision back then.

Wait a sec!
How did you make all the turns without using the breaks?
I always try that but it seems impossible.
Albino2005 5 months ago
@Albino2005
It's not impossible. Just use a good joystick, like a Playstation 2 clone with analog sticks configuration and you're done.
eriklima2 4 months ago
@eriklima2 But what about the arcade vesion? With the wheel I could never make it.

"Highland and Bayside are ficticious and have no affiliation with the Indy 500"
Of course we all knew they were based on Laguna Seca and Long Beach.

What time you in Indy 500? my record time is 2'29, 163, playing on normal difficulty. The fastest lap was 36'207. I think of you.

Same here. 2 of my local arcades had this game, but one went out of business and the other replaced it with Cruis'n' Exocita(LAME!).

It's a funny coincidence - in that arcade, there was another game next to the Indy500 machine and that was Cruis'n World! :)
I liked both though.
