Is the guy jumping around, dancing and acting crazy/all theatrical supposed to be Robespierre??? ...WTF 0.o No wonder some people think he was gay if they've ever watched this play...RHYME!
@Piriathy No,this one is supposed to be Desmoulins :P However it's all a burlesque and not intended to be taken seriously
The play has nothing to do with hints to Robespierre sexual orientation. they are 200 years old. Firstly historians were likely to combine Robespierre and Saint-Just, later they rather suggested a crush between Robespierre and Desmoulins. Then they came back to the version with Saint-Just. But nowadays they've probably given up all these conjectures. The play had no influence
@safira00 um, but Przybyszewska's play was to be taken seriously. She really believed in all that Robespierre/Desmoulins stuff. Klata has changed her idea completely.
Personally I liked Wajda's version much more. Perhaps I'm just a traditionalist. Or I don't see the point in making Lucille have sex with Robespierre. Why the hell?! If it was Marianne- yup, I'd understand. But why Lucille?! It doesn't have anything to do with the meanig of the play (nor history, of course).
@SilverDragonfly91 The filmed play was published by Teatr Polski from Wrocław, where it was directed by Jan Klata. You can probably write an e-mail at marketing@teatrpolski.wroc.pl and ask them for the DVD. As far as I know they were selling it.
@imbra0 Dlaczego nie? Wciąż wystawiają tę sztukę :) Co prawda teraz są w trasie za granicą, ale jak wrócą, sama zamierzam wybrać się do Wrocławia... :)
