Are you doing conventions? A gadget like this would be a MAJOR eye catcher at FedCon.
What are the iris segments made of? They look like they're made from balsa wood or something similar light material (fx. rigid foam). Would be a real pain to get the spacing and clearance between the segments just right.
Look at the clip. The way the segments close in the end is exactly like in SG (including the "inner" segments extending beyond the center). The technology isn't that new, it's basically the same stuff that's in every camera lens assembly. The accuracy to build such a thing on a bigger scale is challenging, though, especially when using LEGO parts.
Oh sorry I didnt mean you cant build one lol (i mean, there it is!) haha just meant you could never seal one completely, there'd always be a hole in the centre, the iris blades would have to be impossibly thin for there not to be :D but i do like it

it is a shame the stargate iris style of closing is physically impossible :P
explorer47422 3 years ago
Uh, I don't think it's physically impossible, difficult granted, but not impossible.
Matthew486DX 3 years ago
They have actually already redesigned and simulated a real life iris, So yes, it is very possible.
2001urchm 3 years ago
They've done it almost a century ago, that's called a photographic aperture.
The only challenge is to build one that's over 18 feet in diameter.
