We just had different spirit. Those who've been through the camps have never been polluted by the current society where greed, pride and hatred exist.

I remember when we first came to Australia, our spirit, our joy of helping each other was strong. Our people from the church were always ready to welcome those who just arrived from the camp to settle them down, finding houses, furniture and buying old cars together. We had fun. Now we just don't have this kind of spirit any more. Don't no why?

I think that those who went through the refugee camps and then around the world in the 80's are the ppl who can appreciate each other better. It's because we left our homeland together, living packed together and being transferred from camp to camp not knowing where they were taking us.So when we got out to live in different part of the world, the countries, the ppl, the language that are not ours, we tend to appreciate each other more. good singers. there are at least 2 issues though:

1) the poster & the introduction 2 the song aint mention that it's an oldy, and

2) the actor & actress aint "khmao", as the song of course implies that the singers are "khmao", which literally means "black", not "dark-skinned". the khmer word that roughly means "dark-skinned" sounds like "sror-ehm".

i like what the female singer is saying..she's saying yes she might be dark/tanned-skin but she's not cold hearted or bad. she's gentle and sweet to her lover (husband).

Some of the reasons why Khmer people love so much are because the songs are so good. Another reason is that the singers are already dead. If they were still alive, Khmers would not support them. When my best friend was teaching me Khami, kmao was on of the first words I learned and it sucks how people try to forget their culture and become so Americanized anyway, thanks for posting. Thats true, MOST Cambodians do think light skin is better because it shows a higher class of people. Typically peasents are darker because they work the fields. I personally don't like that idea, Khmers are darker naturally anyway. I even purposely tan myself so I won't get confused as something else. Beside dark girls are HOT! I'd pick dark one over a sick looking light skin one anyday.
