  • "I broke you in the canyon

I drowned you in the lake

    You're a snake that I would trample

    Only thing I'd not embrace"

    Such brilliant, powerful lines.

  • Layne is God! AIC 4 ever!!!

  • @garopabeach Don't compare Layne and God. I mean he's cool and all, but he's no Layne Staley.

  • It's so odd seeing Mike Starr perform in this, knowing that this was the year he left Alice in Chains.

  • @Sunzu49

Look at all of these Mike Starr "fans" come out of the woodwork.

  • Happy Birthday Layne! R.I.P

  • wtf ?!!?? laney staley's voice is so fucking perfect....

  • whats worse the death of layne stayley or the death of good rock

  • I miss this voice.

  • I miss grunge metal like this.

  • Rip Layn

    Should of know better

    faster we run

    and we die young!!!!!!!

  • bless the 90's Pearl Jam Nirvana AIC Soundgarden WOW!

  • Damn, Layne was great. I truly am blessed to listen to him

  • It was mikes last show with AIC, the night he shot heroin for the first time

  • RIP Mike and Layne. This was probably one of AIC's last shows with Mike.

  • Yes ohmah70 is a troll. but the more you guys respond to them the more they win. they're probably kicking back with a nice cup of tea and laughing at how worked up youtubers get. on the other hand... i fucking love AIC :)

  • @W78516 you must smoke poles you metro sexual, vampire lovin homo.

  • @ohmah70 If you got a pole in the gargage stick it up your ass and get someone to twist it for you.

  • @W78516 that was pretty weak dude, and you explained that in way to much detail like you actually had someone do that for you....SICK QUEER

  • @ohmah70 Your a troll. That was my descriptive way of saying go fuck yourself. If you think of it any other way, you must must be queer.

  • @ohmah70 I can see that you have three bad comments on your non-Channel page. I guess your goal is to collect as many bad comments as you can so you can look at them after and jerk off to them later lol :)

  • @W78516 I got you all pissed off,LMAO...mission accomplished....I WIN faaaaaaaaggg

  • @ohmah70 you admit to being a troll and and Queer my mission was accomplished too. Cheers asswipe.

  • @ohmah70 fuck korn yeah!

  • starrs last performance when he od'd this is when they were in brazil and kurt shot him up then layne shot him up and he od'd, always liked starr better then inez, sucks starr left

  • @bgaffney711 Alice in Chains died with Layne, end of discussion !!

  • I've been watching AIC footage all afternoon; it's amazing how much Layne changed just between '92 and '93. Probably when the drug started to have more effect on him.

  • Layne was such a great singer. I had the oppurnity to see them live back in the early 90s. I saw around 93 or 94 can not remember I was in my teens. Thank goodness for older siblings. They was really rocking that night I will never forget that night but sadly a few years ago my apartment building I was living in burnt. I lost everything including pictures of that concert.

  • @bgaffney711 i love the fact u managed to get fruity into a post about grunge singers pure genius

  • @bgaffney711 I couldn't agree I mean the new singer may not be layne but still I think the new singer is as close as we are going to get to layne. Plus he has his own style I think layne would have wanted alice in chains to keep going.

  • God, bring us back Layne, Cliff Burton, Freddie Mercury, John Bonham and John Lennon D:

  • @PGuitar97 What about Kurt Cobain?

  • @xXDevlinXx123 Mmm I prefer Jim Morrison Lol

  • Comment removed

  • @PGuitar97 All five in the SAME group!!! That'd be EPIC!

  • @PGuitar97 Fuck God.

  • @PGuitar97 and Kurt cobain

  • @PGuitar97 amen

  • @PGuitar97 Kurt Cobain?

  • I wonder why AiC had such a huge impact on South America? Was it due to the drug content and the denunciation of heroin? I mean AiC seemed to get a bigger audience from South America than any other grunge band, and i wonder if it was because some of the South American countries shared Laynes troubles with drugs?

  • @wawaweewawa no it was due to the music they were the best......the rest of those bands from then dont even compare!

  • @wawaweewawa no dude, it's a combination of good taste, - and the fact that fuck all bands play there.

  • Damn! I wish i had Jerry's hair ... fuking love it

  • Love Layne's hat.

  • Love that shot looking over his shoulder as he watched the crowd. Wonder what he was thinking?

  • Cool, Mike Starr was still in the band. Great video!

  • How people compare Nirvana to AIC still just confuses me. Alice bitch slaps Nirvana in every way possible. Sorry Cobain fans. Don't get me wrong Kurt was very talented, but Layne just shuts him down in every way. Vocal ability most of all. RIP Layne. Most talented singer to come out of the Seattle area ever PERIOD

  • @aic029 Layne was a better singer, but Kurt didn't try singing most of the time. both never get enough credit though

  • @aic029 very true, even Cornell cant match Layne.

  • @aic029 so true!

  • Rip layne.

  • It's so hard to decide who I love more, Jerry or Mike...

  • oh my fucking god.... this is insane

  • The video is a bit choppy but still, its cool to watch Layne live. :)

  • Is that Mike Starr??..

  • @WhiskeyOnly yep...that's Mike Starr....god love him.......he told me he OD'ed before one of these shows in Brazil.....i wonder if it was this one?

  • I just watched a whole bunch of videos with duvall singing the older songs and then i clicked this and then i hear layne and then the song just felt right

  • just fell in love with these guys...again

  • @cstar75 and again and again and again and AGAIN

  • The way layne sounds Live is uncanny.... plain and simple. Love this band...

  • rip Layne.you have changed my life forever.

  • 2 of my 3 favorite songs by AIC. The 3rd is sea of sorrow.

  • @bgaffney711 great point and so true.....and truth be told william duvall is amazing and the new AIC record kicks ass

  • and you got hint!! and you should have know better

    loveee you layne =]

  • mierda se ubiera muerto nadamas kurt

    porque layne ¡

    =(

  • Oh You Couldnt Dam That River

And Maybe I Dont Give A Damn Anyway

So You Couldnt Dam That River

And It Washed Me So Far Away

  • BRASIL!!! Do caralho! Queria ter ido nesse show... R.I.P Laney !

  • why is he dead, i still cant believe it:S

  • Yes without Layne Singing is not the same but without Jerry the amazing riffs would have never been created!

  • This was the tour when Mike Starr first shot up. Nirvana was on tour with them and Kurt shot up Mike. Then Layne shot Mike up and he overdosed but was able to wake up fortunately.

  • @elitet0kr where did you get this info man? i love the details of their addictions.

  • @skee6901 mike said it on celebrity rehab.

  • @elitet0kr who the fuck cares?

  • i LOVED ya BRo.....!!!! U died on US ALL....beloved voice!!!! but we'll always LiVe in Our Souls! Thanks Bro!!!! Long live Seattle grunge!!

  • @symptom1555 I really like his hat...

  • @Jozsus me too! lol... :)

  • @symptom1555 Typical in the 90's :)

Love the 90's and miss them of course!

    RIP LAYNE

  • @MyNegativeCreep k, sweetie, ur gonna have to tell me what comment you were replying to...I looked all over and can only find my hat comment...was that the one? lol

  • @symptom1555 It was about his hat ;P

    peace

  • bi-polar psycho no matter what they play or where aic kicks my dirty ass

  • God I fucking love this band

  • what kind of hat is that? I would like to know.

  • @Jozsus I think they call it a skully or something???? i dunno

    :D

  • @lbull341 I had the best lucky oddly when I search for shroom hat lol

  • @Jozsus that just goes to show how much i know about hats

    :D

  • @lbull341 you led me in the right direction though :D

  • didnt nirvana play here as well

  • yea i just watch the vid

  • @symptom1555 Why not just take 10 minutes and change the dates? Seems pretty important to me..and many others as well. Props for uploading regardless.

  • Great comment! My words exactly!!!

  • it makes a HUGE difference to be off between '92 ad '93

that could mean the difference between a show with Starr and not

  • Layne is the best singer ever!!

    Riposa in pace

  • "and maybe I don't give a damn anyway"

  • Just saw the boys in Van at the Orpheum on Tuesday. The show kicked ass. Duvall is not Stayley but the fucker can sing. I got chills when they were able to rock out the oldies. As far as replacement singers go, I think Duvall is pretty damn good.

  • honestly, u cant deny that staleys voice goes sooo much bttr w/ cantrell then duvalls duz. staley and cantrells voices(and guitar) compliment eachothers in a way nobody elses can. its undenyable. god im using big words. but staley is bttr then duvall. fact.

  • @xbloodsplatterdxlove Yea, Layne was better in AIC obviously. but Layne is dead and Duvall does a good job helping to keep the AIC legacy alive.

  • Greatest band ever, when Layne was still alive, sorry guys i know most of you are liking Duvall but after watching a few live video's of this new singer....I was not impressed. Live he sounds nothing like Layne and the guitar and vocals are core this this band. I like what they're trying just not where they're heading with it.

  • @EHenrywv It's hard to go by the vids of Duvall's performances..mostly shit shot with digital cameras and camera phones. I'm only 24, so i never got to see Layne with AIC live, and was skeptical about the new shit, but was very impressed after seeing them in nashville a few weeks ago.

  • funny hat

  • LAYNE WAS BEST OF THAT ERA!!!!

  • Correct MrModernwarfare10

  • Don't forget Tool and Kyuss.

  • Tool and kyuss are from cali, not seattle

  • alice in chains, soundgarden, nirvana and pearl jam. these are seattle's big 4 imho.

  • I don't think you could pick one of the Big 4 bands of seattle. They are all are great. Then you had STP from California and they are also great. Face it... the 90s might have had the best music of all time. Smashing pumpkins, RATM, janes addiction, RCHP, sublime, radiohead, beck, bush, green day, foo fighters, and supergroups like temple of the dog and mad season. you might not like all the bands i just listed but you cant deny the 90s kicked ass.

  • Exactly what I think. 90s are the best. The big four of Seattle, STP, Pumpkins, Sublime, RATM, Foo, Urban dance Squad, Therapy ?, Silverchair... Fantastic bands...

  • All amazing bands but you left out Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

  • they along with AIC are seattle's big 4.

  • very true man... considering the amount of talent of the time just jives more credit to layne imo...

  • uh temple of the dog and mad season were side projects not supergroups

  • @jacknife10000 i think when he says super group he means like an all stars band with famous people with other bands comming together to make a "super group"

  • @wvufan10510 You missed Corrosion Of Conformity. And maybe Oasis.

  • Dam that river and rain when i die are two of aic's most underrated songs

  • @dabears8954 - AGREE! ALSO love hate love, underrated. i'm ecstatically in love with the version of love hate love in the video of them at the Moore in Seattle, i think 1990. i can't watch it enough. it's ridiculously powerful. sadly, i've only found one live version of rain when i die from the rio '92 show & it's amazing!!!! do you know of any more live rain when i die out there?

  • I wholeheartedly agree with that statement

  • I don't recognize any of the chords in the first seconds of the song

  • thats iron gland

  • dude.... i need some layne shades

  • If I had a magic method to revive a dead idol and bring him to the present era to save Rock and Roll from dissappearing (or turning into the radio-friendly, million copy-selling, meaningless crap it is most of the time these days), and I had only two choices 1) Kurt and 2) Layne

    I'd choose Layne Staley

  • aww come on. Look at Nirvana, selling a shit ton of records--That was a sign that the revolution was working. And guess what we got more of because of Nirvana breaking down that wall..AiC and Soundgarden. You gotta be proactive to the cause dude..see a kickass band, help them get bigger and watch the format change to the way WE want it. That's how the biz works, its a reflection of what the buying public listens to. If you control that, you also control where the music climate shifts.

  • i fucking hate all these ass bands like puddle of mudd and nickleback that try to imitate alice in chains.

  • Kill them all !

  • miss u layne :(

  • Why are we comparing AIC to Maiden? Different times and very different styles of music. Both very good bands but if anything I can only say Iron Maiden's music doesn't bring the same emotion as AIC.

  • He's on of the ,masters of grunge with Kurt Cobain.

    RIP Kurt & Layne

  • Nice arrangment on bass and drums during the guitar solo... You dont hear that kind of stuff anymore.

  • Iron maiden over aic? Your nuts bro!! You look at how popular these guys got and how many great songs they had over a very short period of time. I mean its not like they could even tour much due to laynes habits etc. Its 2009 and I turn the radio on and even on modern rock stations they will play these guys 5 times a day!!! Very talented group, period!!

  • I hope the audience there realized they got to see possibly the best rock vocalist ever. But I'm not sure if they do.

  • These are 2 of my favorite songs ever made. I love AIC.

  • I'm a great fan of Iron Maiden, I listen much more to them than AIC, i'm spanish and i'm dying to see them live (before they die haha).

I was comparing the two styles, i don't say one is better than the other, they're different and that's all i was saying. Anyway, its clear that Maiden had much more influence in music, they became the greatest metal band and they're a legend...

  • Layne Staley sounded great live...

  • i think their music-styles' name is: alternative rock, and they were influenced by metal.

most of the time you say it's alternative rock/grunge as far as i know

so it's neither metal, nor full grunge, nor full alternative rock^^

  • AIC is only part grunge, songs like dam that river and we die young rnt grunge at all, they r heavy metal. and come on u cant compare Iron Maiden to AIC, Maiden blows them away by far, not takin anything away from AIC cause they r amazing but iron maiden r just fuckin insane!

  • Are u insane... Alice in chains is way fucking better... Iron maiden are just a bunch of overratted brits who had 1 or 2 good songs.

  • Iron Maiden got 90% of their attention from having fancy album covers and cashing in heavy on the whole "devil worship" style heavy metal.

They've got a couple of good songs and that's it. AIC was great song after great song, on every album.

  • Alice in chains was alot better then Iron Maiden in my opinion.

  • @AlizinChanz Agree. Iron Maiden is more just noisy. AIC is brilliant.

  • @AlizinChanz completely different styles...it's like comparing soundgarden to slayer u idiot

  • @asianaxeman hey man, you can compare iron maiden and alice in chains, because they ARE different, you can't compare two identical things, for instance, you can't compare two identical apples, because there are NO differences... just sayin'...

  • @AlizinChanz whats funny is for my band were covering Alice In Chains and Iron Maiden... but my personal favorite is Alice. alltime fav. and always best

  • @AlizinChanz iron maiden are gash. bunch of puffs

  • go jump off a bridge kamikazeshitstain. I love Maiden but AIC's songs are more meaningful and they will stand the test of time unlike any Maiden songs.

  • VERY good point Abasuto....couldn't have said it better myself. Alice In Chains accomplished about half of what Maiden accomplished....but in an eighth of the time. If Layne had stayed off of drugs and as well off as he was in this video (which is awesome by the way) then AiC would have reached Metallica / Priest status in my opinion...and would have overshadowed Nirvana and PearlJam in the history books. Sadly it was the other way around :/

  • I wouldnt compare Man in the Box, Would, Angry Chair, Spoonman or Rusty Cage to Number of the Beast, Aces High, Powerslave, Fear of the Dark, Hallowed be thy Name... Iron Maiden is and was heavy metal, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains were not only metal :)

  • spoonman and rusty cage wer even written by AIC

  • Because Mudhoney or Bleach and Incestide were more crazy and more garage-style it doesnt mean the rest didn't play music with some similar features.

Pearl Jam were the most classic hard-rockers, Alice in Chains the darkest metal, Mudhoney much more like punk, Nirvana more simple, garage and melodic, Soungarden the most 80's metal at the beginning and then more psicodelic... Listen to Alice in Chains' and Nirvana's Unplugged and you realize they are both "grunge" (or whatever)

  • I don't know if they were all grunge or not, that's the name the media gave to it and what remained, but i think the seattle scene bands had many similarities. The dark lyrics and melodies, the clothes and attitude away from the late 80's rock, the punk attitude, the metal-riffs taken mainly from Black Sabbath, powerful voices...

  • Coolest hat ever :D

  • they're all pretty kick ass bands grunge or not layne had some bad ass lyrics and is pretty cool even though the whole heroin thing happened same with kurt he had some good lyrics but they got easier to think up as his addiction got worse but they're both god damn good singers and no one can take that away

  • AWSOME !!

  • I know I'm going to get sh^%t for just stating the obvious: NO WAY does the "new singer" come close

    LAYNE ONLY

  • yeah, but the moron is dead

  • inpresionante

  • ...and we die young... kinda says it all

    RIP Layne

  • kurt and layne are the best singers ever!!!

  • here here

  • sorry, i didn't understand what do you mean

  • i'm agreeing with you lol

  • that's good =S

  • Never got to see Alice In Chains with Layne, just the new guy Duval. It was a great show. I of course never got to see nirvana live. With that said I can easily decide to be an AIC fan instead of a Nirvana fan. They to me are far more talented and actually addressing issues. Tool is still the best band around though.

  • lice has the edge on Nirvana just about everything. Better lyrics better altogether songs

    Jerry Owns kurt at guitar

Layne owns kurt at singing(jerry also does)

Mike Starr/Inez both own krist novelselic(idk how to spell it)

And I say Kinney vs Grohl was a bit even. But you don't know Kinney was never one to show of his skills. Ex no excuses is one of the songs he does.

I like nirvana to though there one of my fav bands.

  • you're a tool

  • Why?

  • for using t
