I hear the term "picking a deuce" a lot in hockey and Cherry used it in this video. Does anyone know what it means? I can't seem to find an answer.

He says "taking abuse" not picking a deuce, and i've been watching and playing hockey since i was 8 and i've never heard picking a deuce, perhaps in the states its a phrase but not in Canada. BTW I'm not being rude, i've just never heard that after 16 years watching and playing

I saw that game, it was early in the first. Churla was 'sending a message', Bure replied.
Churla left him alone after that. That's the way it goes in the BIG league.

I remember watching this game. Churla was being a jerk all night and taking a rather extreme amount of liberty with his cheap shots. Bure finally had enough, and told Churla to fuck off, as you just saw.

thats one of those things in Bure, the mean streak, that got so many Vancouver/Canadian Fans on his side. He had a mean streak. Sort of like Ovechekin. Ove hits and scores like a Mamma Jamma, he might as well have been born in Canada. Kudos to russia for this guys.

I concure with you DeepHauz ! Bure did exactly what he had to do ! Playoff Hockey ! Churla had to be stoped at all cost. No one would step up. Since during the playoffs Hockey the refs never call the late hits, Bure made the perfect descision ! Churla turned into a guost !!!

It is extremely rare that someone gets hurt in a hockey fight. So that's not the reason he didn't fight him.
If Bure had fought him, the Canucks best weapon would have been out for 5minutes, a pretty good trade for Churla.
They'd get on the ice and Churla would start running him again.
He took care of it the best possible way at the time, for how the game was played then.
Pretty brutal elbow, but something had to be done, the referees should have taken control of things before that.

That's one thing many players in the NHL overlooked about Bure during the 90's, he wasn't the kind to take a hit then ignore it like many wingers these days do, his physical strength was nothing to scoff and he'd find a way to come back at you, even if it's a dirty elbow like that.
His wrecklessness (such as this video) is what led to his unhealthy career end, had he cut down on being physical he'd probably still be playing today.
