  • In a native of tacoma and what the deal now you gotta pay a toll to cross the narrows?

  • i live in WA and drive over both the newer one is nice because it does not have grates in between the lanes

  • They can't add another deck they already said it was being overloaded every day

  • the solution is to build another bridge, or make a lower deck a other way of traffic like we did on the bay bridge.

  • They should look at the Lions Gate Bridge. They only did it for the widening span. Not twinning the bridge like Tacoma.

  • @Ryoukun16 Well it's made in America, which makes it 10 times better that the rebar in the new bridge. And it looks cooler.

  • Who wants to bet the old bridge is built better than the new one?

  • @KNGarver You can't switch lanes though.

  • @alexthager ya thats cool but guess what i lived up the street from the narrows bridge and watched it get built get some :P (P.S there was a construction worker scratching his butt on the cranes :D)

  • The problems with this one aren't as bad as the problems with the first bridge.. :D

  • Its a suspension bridge! Yes we even have some in our state!....

  • the people actually put them self at risk its probably made of lolly pip sticks and rappers like the other 1

  • This is an awesome bridge!

  • Wow, after that tragic collapse of the old bridge from a wind storm is so unreal, I thought it looked like it was swaying from a huge earthquake in Tacoma! Finally, someone probably learn an important lesson not to make a flimsy bridge that would not withstand a catastrophic earthquake or a wind storm: the one that hit in 1940!

  • Both the 1950's bridge and its recently-built "sister" look fantastic, and obviously a lot safer than the 1940 original! LOL. Great that the second bridge also has a Green-painted truss, fits in well with the surroundings and the 1950's bridge.

  • i have to say. this bridge from 1940 was way more dangourous and it was ppls rollercoaster of a life time

  • the older 1 looks more nice but more dangerous

  • no becaz the brij will move and the door will cloze and then the man wood waste his time doin that over and over and when the brij collapses he will die with the dog

  • The owner of the car with the dog on the old bridge at leas could've left the door open!!!! Wow was the disaster unbelievable!!! The footage was put in the Hollywood Museum of Historical Film.

  • The older brige swayed and fell apart. Doggy waz killed.

  • Poor dog... :-(

  • Galloping Gertie's sacrifice was not in vain- because of her sad fate, much was learned about suspension bridge design. This allowed susequent bridges to be built stronger, and existing bridges (even the Golden Gate) to be strengthened.

As sad as her loss was, it was not in vain. The new Narrows Bridge and her older sister are magnificent structures, may they have a very long life!

  • Wonderful video, a great thing to see after remembering of all the sorrow caused by the original Tacoma Narrows bridge disaster in 1940.

Today there are still remains of the original "Galloping Gertie" RIP forever Galloping Gertie.

  • I haven't driven on it yet but it looks really nice.
