  • This is one of Paul's "throwaways" :) An awesome song by most songwriter standards.

  • this song talks about an unrequited love with a friend? can someone please tell me?

  • this song talks about an unrequited love with a friend? can someone please tell me?

  • when a song like this doesnt make the grade.....sounds like a throwaway,

  • This most certainly should have been released !

    It's a great song.

  • love this should have been on help and not let that clown sing ringo act naturally crap

  • love this should have been on help and not let that clown sing

  • my fav-cool-

suicide?-mabye kept it from release/???who cares

  • Ringo looks so sad back there all alone and out of focus.

  • Canción perfecta. Jamás habrá un grupo como este.

  • Is there anything these guys can't sing?!!!Wow.

  • I like this song a lot.

  • Love this one...Thanks for a superb upload...Stay Gold

  • so is this not on any albums because i love it how could they not??

  • This song should have been included in "Help"

  • This is solid gold. Can you believe that Nickelback and Eminem top the charts these days. Something HORRIBLE has happened to music

  • This was recorded during the "Help"/"Rubber Soul" period???

This sounds like the "Cavern" Beatles.

Are you sure? This is the Mersey sound......

    Best Wishes.

If anyone loves the Beatles as much as we have I really recommend a three day visit to Liverpool to walk the streets that inspired this sound. From hence forth this music will conjure up images from that trip.

  • This song is on the anthology album 1 or 2!

  • This song is on the anthology album 1 or 2.

  • GODDAMMN pauls voice is such a treat for my ears!!

  • It's a little too Gerry and the Pacemakers for the Beatles in their Rubber Soul period...

  • Its actually from the "Help" soundtrack sessions(May1965).

  • This version is 10 times better than P.J. Proby's version lol.

  • I think this is better than The Word, What Goes On, Wait, or Run for Your Life. Lyrics are not spectacular, but the music and singing is great.

  • Man, John had a pretty big guitar! Nice:)

  • They should have worked on it a little more and released it (although it sounds pretty good as is). It would've been a lot better of a song for 'Rubber Soul' than 'What Goes On'. Also I think this version sounds way better than the one that was released by PJ Proby.

  • oh man, bless Paul's voice...

  • I hear the same chord thats in John's Real Love

  • Such beautiful vocals on Paul's part. I wish it were on the soundtrack for Help! but I guess it not being on there makes it even more of a treasure.

  • Can't you see, yeah.

    Can't you see, yeah.

    Can't you see, yeah.

    Can't you see, yeah.

    Can't you see, yeah.

    Can't you see, ah.

    Can't you see, yeah.

    Can't you see, yeah.

  • Well,. they did record it but it was never officially released until "Anthology". It was quite close timewise to the recording of "Ticket to Ride".

  • is it just me or did anybody else get goosebumps when Paul sang "love can be suicide"?

I love love love this song :)

  • Best track from Anthology 2.

  • One of so many of their Masterpieces!!! Anyone know if this ended up on any of their earlier LP's?

This may have been an xtra or demo or just didn't make the cut maybe? Thanks,Les(recordman1207.

  • THAT MEANS A LOT : This is the BBC's 'Sounds Of The Sixties', 'Beatles A to Zed' song for week starting Sat 20th June 2009. A small documentory is given about this song before it is played. It can be heard again for 1 week after 20June09 by going to the BBC's Radio 2's 'Sounds of the 60's' site & listening again

  • It's an excellent song, but I can see why they didn't record it. It was a step backward for them, a very 50's song. We shouldn't question how they went about their business, because we all know how perfectly the story went.

  • sounds like the ticket to ride rhythm. does anyone else hear this? i mean the drums, guitar playing, vocal harmonies on accented notes, etc.

  • Kinda, also reminds me of "I'll be back"

  • to revolver8566: yeh, you're right.....It never occured to me till you mentioned it.....there is definately "ticket to Ride" flavor in this song

  • Supposedly 1 reason they decided to scrap "That Means A Lot" was due to the strong similarity to "Ticket to Ride" (take 1 recorded 5 days earlier) and, according to John, was considered too complex. John actually said that "...we found we just couldn't sing it. In fact, we made a hash of it, so we thought we'd better give it to someone who could do it well"-The Beatles: Recording Sessions. Even though it was penned for "HELP!" it was given up to PJ Proby and "Ticket to Ride" live on to reach #1.

  • Yeah, it kinda does. I didn't think about that. John wrote Ticket To Ride though. Paul wrote this :)

  • This is masterpiece! I can't understand why they didn't record it!

  • Me either. Terrific tune.

  • Paul and John couldn't achieve the harmony balane they were seeking. It was decided that the song would be given away to Billy J. Kramer or someone else.

  • @beatle19999 They tried recording it 24 times then abonded it. They couldn't decide on a recording that sounded definitive.

  • @beatle19999 It sounded too much like "Ticket to Ride" which was on the same album they considered putting this song on, is my guess.

  • this is great!!!!!

  • Awesome and beautiful! I can't believe John and Paul decided not to include it on Help or Rubber Soul! What were they thinking?

  • I can see this on Help, but not on Rubber Soul

  • This song is so beautiful! =)

    Great tune!

  • This song is so beautiful! =)

    Great tune!

  • you can certainly tell it was recorded for the help album..i dont know how it just seems like a good song for the film

  • I love this song it never gets old!!!!

  • agreed...always takes me back to 96'...

  • antology !

great version and paul is great !

    one of my favorites!!

  • They should of released this

  • THIS SONG ROCKS.

  • Tengo 47 años y toda mi vida fui fanática de Los Beatles. Es la primera vez en mi vida que tengo la oportunidad de escuchar este tema. Muchas Gracias!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow...good version of this rare song...

  • Listen to the Hunkasaurus and HIs Pet Dog Guitar version. That one worked. I think they had a great song here but it just didn't quite gel.

  • The Beatles version is ten billions of times better than the PJ Proby version.

  • I can't find the PJ Proby version on Youtube, do you got it?

  • There could've been more work done on this video, no offense meant. It's just; you could've had more than one picture for the whole thing, to make it more like a movie.

Tho this song is awesome!!!^^ I love it! But...just more work needs to be done. No offense. Yeah.

  • It's...just brilliant! :))

  • sounds like they used this drum beat for Ticket To Ride.

  • This song should have replaced "Wait" on Rubber Soul.

  • definitely!!!!

  • this song means a lot.... way better than many fillers from Help, like Another girl, Lizy miss Dizzie or Tell me what you see

  • hehe, yeah agree......can't understand why they didn't like it, they were maybe high.....

  • I like this video because it's nice

  • It's someting interesting about this sing ... i like playing a lot of beatles songs on my guitar, but when every time i want to play this, i just can't find the right rhytm... maybe i just don't like it

  • I think the distinctive part about this song is the lyrics, which are very gentle. instrumentally-wise, maybe the drums. apropo, salutari!

  • keep this up

  • Perfect song... why they didnt release it?

  • Paul didn't consider it good enough.

In my opinion, is a perfect and beautiful song.

  • as far as I know about how the songs were decided within the band, if both John and Paul didn't like the song (it didn't sound good or right to them) they would leave it out. That's also the case I've heard with this one. The other reason I know of is about arrangements. For example, Across the Universe was composed sometime in 1967, but Lennon wasn't convinced by the original Indian arrangement to it, and only decided to release it in a simple form in 1970

  • According to the liner notes in Beatles Anthology 2, the band spent over 5 hours trying to get this song right, before giving up and letting P J Proby record the song. However, the song as recorded by the Beatles doesn't sound too bad to me, the mix needs a bit of sorting out - the vocal and drums need to be brought forward a bit. On the whole it is quite a good song.

  • actually, a gear song.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

They could have it included in "Help" album.

  • LOVE THIS SONG! They could have it included

    LP "Help".

  • I love this song, even when some people think is kinda oldie...Thanx 4 this PV

    :) Greetings from Peru

  • Love this tune... I think that was worth to a b side. Surelly best than the PJ proby, to me of course, not for many people I guess.

  • <3 I love this song ^_^

  • Thanks for the upload.

    Don't take it off! lol

  • This is a wonderful song, I don't know why Paul didn't like it

  • This is a wonderful song that brings some memories back...2004 year..i know sounds like weird but i started to enjoy this beatles` song by that :)

  • Love this song and the lead vocal is incredible.

  • That is my favoite song

  • Esto es música!

This song should be in the "Help!" album, in my opinion, is better than other ones.

  • Love this song! Thank you!

  • Thanks a lot!

I like this song a lot, it should be in the Help! album imo.

  • thanks for this, one of my favourites from the Anthology.
