  • Much respect to the man who dived in after the incident. Quick action saves lives.

  • Thumbs up if you were hoping to see Doctor Crusher from Star Trek TNG

  • Im a former quarryman, used to drive a dumper and a jaw crusher! bucket teeth coming down from the face are simply DEADLY, im shocked at this vid, but glad the fella survived!

  • holy shit i can't believe the guy survived.

  • Is it just my imagination, or is the metal railing just to the left of the scene red hot?

  • @N2trogen i was wondering the EXACT same thing

  • @N2trogen Looks to me just like a yellow railing :P the way the shadow is going over it though, it does indeed give it the "Glowing hot" look.

  • lucky for him, bet there was some serious amounts of paperwork to fill out THAT day

  • See that metal bar in front of you? Yeah the glowing one! Lick it!

  • He should of welded on to the steel frist then used heat.......

  • Im a firing my laser!!!!

  • He got knocked the fuck out.

  • good on his spotter jumping down in there with him to help him,,well done

  • dang that hit him in the head to

  • This bloke worked for McMohans didn't he?

  • He blew up

  • Mr blue, he was seriously injured but he was flown to Perth hospital and recovered.

  • Mr blue,

  • Hi minetalk,

Can you tell me if this lance holder was seriously injured? I hope not, but it looked nasty!

    Take care,

    mrbluenun

  • DONT touch that hand rail...its red hot!!!

  • shit

  • that is wild

  • we just got a fatalgram recently at work about a miner cutting into a drill bit that was similar to this in which the gases inside the bit expanded and blew the bit up. He was not so lucky, I do hope this miner is still with us

  • he didn't die just had a few months off work til he recovered. very lucky man.

  • gmspeedfreak you are a fuckin cock head look at the bigger issue here do you work in the mines or have you ever ?

i have worked underground and loved the work but sometimes things happen to great people that are unexpected my thoughts go out to this dude, his family and all that witnessed it

  • was this in uk?

  • the stone crush the head of worker?????

  • ive done this job a hundred times some times with results but nobody ever got hurt as a fellow minnier i hope he's all right

  • he died from his injuries

  • he survived he works in the same company i do. he's really lucky his hard hat saved him from the chunk of metal which flew out. n there jsa was very detailed but even the most qualified supervisors n tradesman that where watching n helped with the jsa can still miss some things

  • rio tinto.. you guys are dill rods giving away all our precious ore to the asians

  • Om My God Look Like It Took His Fucking Head Right Of Or Just Janging By A Strand

  • I have ran crushers for years. The object that came flying out was a piece of steel that wedged in the crusher and the only way to get it out is to cut it out. Unfortunately the right way to do this would have been to weld the piece in place and cut it down the center to release the pressure. Then cut the 2 pieces out that you welded in.

  • i never worked on one but that sounds like the right way, u dont go and slam the truck in revese without lookin in the rear veiw first hey

  • im cofused how did ...o what was blowing out why would any thing within the area even b turned on?> i work on pipelines in northern alberta and safety is key im suprised that happened

  • What sit was this on? Im guessing from the yellow and blue uniforms and yellow helmets this was a rio tinto site.

  • Nah he is alright

Flown to Perth hospital with a fractured skull but he lived.

    I was there

  • we were shown this video yesterday at our Safety Meeting. He told us it was a fatality. Pretty shocking footage either way.

  • The object that is thrown up in the air and is on fire during the blast is his welding helmet. Then you see his head slam violently against the side of the tank...then he falls to the ground. There is no possible way this poor man survived such a severe blunt trama to the head. It must have shattered his skull. It is amazing to think it can happen that fast...death. What your watching is this man's last moments on earth. Sucks.

  • man was he ok, sure hope he was.

i know why yous get good pay

  • holy shit hope that guy is ok, that looks bad!

  • I like how everyone went to help him, unlike the QVC ladder accident where they all just watched him lie there.

  • Yeah, the dude behind him spotting was definitely quick to react and get in there.

  • that is insane

  • lucky

  • What kinda crusher is that how does it work??

  • Pause at :19.

  • I knew someone who wasnt so lucky. Same thing, tooth jammed in a huge primary crusher. Cutting it out, the tooth exploded out of its position and got the guy full in the face. Dead in an instant.

Just shows how easy it is to die!

Good vid mate. Glad he is still partying

  • what??

"i know someone who died in a similar gruesome fashion...oh and GOOD VID??"

  • he was fucking lucky to live after that theres some other pics of where the bucket tooth he was lancing hit the top of the crusher geting around 2

  • He looks like he was decapitated. I doubt he survived a rock being blasted right to the head.

  • No decapitation - still partying hard!

He is my brother, i should know!!

  • Amen!

  • I am so glad that what i saw didn't kill that man!!Sure looked as though it did and could haeHope is doing ok??

  • hi s he k...

  • Holy crap hope he is ok. =(

  • Sh... man I work in an iron ore mine in northern canada for 5 years now and I did the exact thing many times ..... It could have happen to me....It gives me goosebumps

  • what happened to the guy? is he ok?

  • he is fine..

  • I'd like to point out that it was not a rock stuck in the gyro, but it was instead a bucket tooth that they were trying to lance out

  • No worries mate, thanks for that.

    Why did it blow out?

  • As they lanced it, the metal tooth started to expand from the heat, but it had no where to expand to. When it let go, it was like a cork popping, all that pressure around and underneath it caused it to take the path of least resistance and it shot up and got him a glancing blow. He was out for a few minutes from what I understand.

  • so is there a procedure other than lancing? could the crusher not be opened? terrifying as i do a lot of this work

  • @minetalk : when slicing tramp metal (mannie is likely correct, tooth and/or adapter trapped under pressure in the crusher) the amount of potential energy pent up by the process is enormous.

In this case the metal removed by using the magnesium lance allowed the remaining metal, heat compromised, to let fly.

I've done this many times, on various crushers and they're all nerve wracking due to the unfortunately frequent event displayed here. There has to be a better way.

  • @manniefold wat hapend to the man did he fall down to the bottom of the crusher
