actually with the exception of a couple songs, slang was one of their worst albums.. they got caught up in the whole alternative/mellow sound. It just didnt sound right coming from a rock band like Def Leppard
@leifodinnson I agree they were going for the sound of the day but I felt they pulled it off at the same time stayin true to the Lep sound. I like it more than the albums that followed that were all rehashes.
I HAVE 4 Def Leppard CDs (OTTN, H&D, PYRO and HYSTERIA) and they used to be the best band then I thought they disbanded because I have heard nothing from them (literally) until yesterday when I heard "SLANG" (from 1996) and I loved it only to find that DEF LEPPARD is not on Itunes, not on ITUNES? ......... its good, but not good enough to be exclusive ..... too bad
I love def leppard period.. I love to hear Joe Elliot sing.. He is amazing..and all these guys have been through.I have always been their biggest fan... all I can say is WOW.. and they still got it today!!
I remember a time when MTV showed nothing but great music videos. A show of hands on others that remember when times were good and they weren`t airing bullshit drama only losers care about.
This was from 1996,and they're still going strong.Actually, they're more popular than they were then,so how was this the beginning of the end of Def Leppard?
@deflepphartme are you stupid? this album sucks, everything adrenalize and after sucks. they lost millions of fans when they went from metal to bullcrap. while iron maiden and judas priest stayed awesome by not selling out like leppard did. and if you like this crap you are not a real def leppard fan. and to quote the band themselves, "it was like somebody farted" look it up its in an interview.
@pyromaniarules Rick Allen said that because it was so different from anything that they had done before and they KNEW it was not going to sell well. But they made up for it with Euphoria,X,YEAH!,and the latest Songs From The Sparkle Lounge.Only the "true" Leppard fans stayed with them during the time when they were unpopular. Why would you call yourself a fan if you claim they sold out? You sound more like a critic. They never did. They went with Mutt Lange who was famous for producing hit albums.
@deflepphartme um correct me if im wrong but the only albums they did with mutt lange were thier 80s stuff that was metal. and i say they sold out because if you listen to wasted then to something like slang then you would notice the huge difference. plus it seems when steve started doing drugs and drinking the music changed and when he died it just went to the crapper. do you understand me now? i mean when i first heard this song i didnt even think it was them. if it dont sell then dont do it.
@pyromaniarules They said they needed a change in musical direction because if they did do something like Hysteria they knew it still wouldn't sell well.Steve drank from the time he was 18 to the time he died.It didn't have a whole lot of affect on the music. And also,Def Leppard was NEVER metal.Joe Elliott will tell you so.Bands change over time, and so do musical interest from generations. At that time, people were listening to grunge. So DL decided to do a grunge album.
@deflepphartme I'm sorry, but you sound like one of those fans who are still stuck on their "Golden" albums.Real Leppard fans stuck by them even though they were really unpopular and had gone through a lot of hard times.(3 divorces,Rick Savage's father dying,2 arrests, etc.)
@deflepphartme um well they did do metal back in thier first 3 albums and the metal was called british metal. and steve did drugs and died and when he did die the music changed dramatically. and the only reason people go to thier concerts is to hear them play the pyromania and hysteria songs. and other bands have went through harder times and have made it with more success and without selling out. and trust me they did lose fans because the headbangers that loved them hated them after adrenalize
@pyromaniarules After Steve died (In the middle of the production of Adrenalize) Phil ended up doing ALL of the guitar parts.Nothing changed really because he actually helped write part of the album.Of course the headbangers that loved them had already started getting married, having kids, etc,so they didn't have time to go to a DL show. Also,in almost every single article you find about them they always call them "the multiplatinum selling band with so many tragedies."
@deflepphartme and i guess you would call me not a real def leppard fan since i like 80s metal and not the stuff that came after. i guess after listening to photograph then this i would be kinda angry at them for doing something that even they didnt like. and that is why rick said that he didnt like it when they changed. look up them playing the new stuff then look up them playing newer stuff and see which ones they like playing more by the look on thier faces. then tell me which they like more.
@pyromaniarules The looks on their faces don't have a whole lot to do with whether or not the like the song.Joe says that in soundcheck, they actually get bored rehearsing the same 20 year old song over and over again, but they don't care when they perform it live because they love it when the crowd goes wild. That includes some of the newer stuff that I happen to like.It also depends on if the guys are having personal problems.Phil and Viv have in the past 2 years.
@deflepphartme the crowd goes wild for thier older songs more than thier newer ones for a reason. the band says that they dont like playing thier very first stuff in concert but when they do play it they have the biggest smiles on thier faces. and if thier personal problems were so bad they wouldnt be having concerts.
@pyromaniarules That's just it.They love their fans so much and they love making them happy, that they don't care when it comes to their personal problems, they will put on a show no matter what. The crowd will still go wild even after they are dead! They will always love whatever the band does. Why would they buy their album if they don't like it? If the audience only liked their old stuff they would have to release a Greatest Hits album every year.
@deflepphartme um i actually bought a couple of thier albums after hysteria. and i thought they would be good, but i found out that they were just awful. i just want to keep people from making the same mistake i made. and i learned to listen to several songs from an album before buying it. when you say that thier 90s and 00s stuff is good, i cant help but disagree. i actually heard this and other bad songs they did on a greatist hits album from them. hm i wouldnt call this a hit from them at all
@pyromaniarules Well Def Leppard still has 1,000,000 fans,so I'm guessing that they must be doing something right with their music,or else no one would be buying their albums.Songs From the Sparkle Lounge debuted at #5 on the Billboard chart. That had been the highest DL debut since Adrenalize.Long live Def Leppard.
@deflepphartme wow those are the two albums i bought thinking they would be good. but they stank. and the thing you say that is right is just doing what evrybody else does. they go with the times musicwise. they dont do anything artistic anymore, they just do stuff that they think is popular at the time.
@pyromaniarules They do what they want to do regardless of what is "popular" at the time.Rap is all you see on MTV and VH1 nowadays, but Def Leppard has yet to do a rap album. On Crossroads,Phil says that they don't go by genre's for their albums. For example,he said "We don't do a rock album or a country album,we just do a Def Leppard album." Def Leppard will always have that pop/rock sound no matter what the hell is popular at time. With the exception of Slang.
@deflepphartme exactly im tired of the pop/rock from them. they need to go back to what made them great and stop doing all this nonsense pop sounding stuff that they have been doing.
@deflepphartme the pop sound began in pyromania, then it got more noticable in hysteria, then after adrenalize i couldnt stand it any more. i have heard other bands change thier sound over the years and it worked but with def leppard it did not.
@pyromaniarules Obviously it did because they have continued selling albums and actually having people come to their shows.Your opinion obviously won't matter much to the Lepps because they still have their same fanbase that they did 30 years ago and if not, more.Fix your grammar.
@deflepphartme dont you know people will go and see literally anyone or anything. and if you made a album of just fart noises it would still sell. um they cant possibly have the same fanbase they had 30 years ago since back then thier fans were metalheads and headbangers and as being one i know that when they would have heard them going mainstream they would have not liked it and would have started hating them for selling out.
@pyromaniarules You are not a "metalhead" or a "Headbanger" if you actually call yourself one.All you are is a poser. There are Def Leppard fans that have been with the band since 1980.Go look on any Def Leppard related website! Let me repeat myself again,Def Leppard NEVER SOLD OUT.On your profile you say that you're 18.That could be a lie,but if you really are, you'd know basically nothing about music. You think you do but really, you don't.
@deflepphartme well first i am a headbanger, not a poser. and im surprised you even know what a poser is. and thier fans from 30 years ago must either like the newer stuff or they just put up with it. oh i am 18 and i know more about music than the majority of people of my generation. and def leppard did sell out just like metallica did. you can ask any other headbangers you know, and the age does not matter, headbangers are headbangers, ok.
@pyromaniarules Dude,I AM IN YOUR GENERATION! I know more about music of the late 60's,70's,and 80's more than my parents do.AND THEY LIVED THROUGH IT!
@pyromaniarules You are a complete douche and have zero knowledge of Def Leppard. They simply kept up with the times and era. I have listened to them and followed them since I was 5 and I am 36 now. You weren`t even an itch in your daddy`s drawers. Stick with the newer crap to argue on. Music died after the 80`s man. It`s all b.s. now. I like some stuff but my era had more meaning.
@JasonC9774 dude calm the fuck down, i go argue about todays shit. and not all GOOD music died in the 80s, it died in the later 90s when the good 90s bands like nirvana and alice in chains were going through shit and crap like all that boy band douschebagging stuff became popular. after boy bands everything in music just went to shit, and look at what there is now, its all autotuned techno sounding bullshit that pisses me off because the majority of my generration like it, but not me i hate it.
@JasonC9774 oh and i do know some shit about def leppard. probably not as much as you, thats because i like other bands from the 80s like dio iron maiden judas priest scorpions whitesnake ratt motley crue skid row gnr and many more, so if i get a few facts wrong well im sorry, im just busy listening and supporting rock and heavy metal.
@JasonC9774 Im 26 and youre fucking right!, I still think the same like you, today's music its an insult for our ears, just talentless whores shaking their ass (which is good I'm enjoy that) but the music pass to a secondary level, hip hop and all that bullshit is even worse, and all new rock if you can call it that way its just sackless, mediocre and boring tunes. god I miss the power ballads, the hair, the solos, the guitar, the great world tours

@deflepphartme i admit it, it was because of my friend though. he said hey lets look that crappy def leppard song slang and see what people think of it. and he saw what you said and had me type that. and the stuff about the 60s - 80s thats true for me also. i love classic rock and old metal.
