The treaty was important, especially in its role in bringing about WW I. Paradoxically, Prussia should have assisted Belgium, too. As has already been said the Treaty of London - 1839; guaranteed Belgian neutrality and it was the will of the British people to honour this treaty.
As for World War Two - we promised Poland support if she was invaded and gave the Germans time to pull out of Poland after they invaded.
And if we really want to get into Afghanistan and Iraq you will find that it is America who started the wars there - not Britian
