it was alright bro. You might have really good chops, but your left hand is preventing that. You are tensing up way too much. If you practice relaxing, you'll sound tons better.
first off, badrok15hotmailcom, its a solo. you play whatever speed you want. but i do agree this solo was meant to be played quickly, hence the title, Tornado. some small things: the end of the backsticking section needs to be cleaned, it just kinda ran together and had no deffinition to it. in the single hand section: you need to turn ur left wrist instead of pumping your arm up and down. it was slow but it sounded good.
was way to slow, all the dynamics sounded the same, the thirty second notes during the 6/8 were slow as hell, thirty seconds are suposed to be the same speed as a roll, but w/e, also your left hand hand was way to flat, if you were marching in the rain it would fill with water lol, other than that the musicianship was great, i disagree with thedrummerkid92 it sounds great fast if youve got the chops and can play clean. overall it was k.
That was great. I am playing it this year as well. Now I see below you said you took it at about 105-110...did the judge care that much? Because I am at about 110 right now, and I am just worried if the judge will not like it because I'm not taking it to tempo.
Dude it sounds SO much better if you play it slow and well instead of fast and shitty. especialy when it gets to the section where its got all the right hand flams and the left hand plays straight sixteenth notes
Congrats on nailing that solo....I played that same solo 3 yrs ago at my solo and ensemble except I didn't play traditional like you........great job nailing the back sticking and keeping up with it.....Great talent keep posting more wicked rudimental snare solo's I love seeing what other drummers can do
Hey man, thanks. Honestly I wish I could have picked up the tempo a little bit, but I didn't allow myself enough time to prepare it up to that speed. I'm just glad it was clean...
As it turned out I won the best snare solo at the festival. Keep in mind though, my competition wasn't playing nearly as advanced music. But I did get the best of the day, which is pretty wicked.
Yeah it's all good. I checked out your other video at your winter concert and saw you picked up the tempo a bit.
Good job though, it's still an accomplishment either way. I have a while to learn it so I'm confident I can get it sounding clean while playing it at a decent tempo. I found the musics pretty hard to follow, so this video helped me out a bunch.
This is awesome to watch for those of us who are still learning this piece!

Where the hell are your dynamics, I thought it was rather boring, add the dynamics

better to play at a slower tempo and get all of your rudiments played correct than to play it fast and mess everything up.
how long did you have to prepare for this?

Damn that was raw, thanks for playing it at a slower speed. Easier for me to translate it. I just got this for solo/ensemble in February.
I'm wondering, how did you do in the competition?
