The copper heads must like me more than you! One, I dont tape them, two, I set one free when I was only 8 from my papas tractor and it curled around me and never bit me.
it was most likely an allergic reaction. my grandpa was bit by a juvie and he just layed in bed for 3 or so days with nothing more than a nasty scab. granted i wouldnt recommend doing that, being a venomous snake owner myself, you should always go to the hospital asap
I catch these every summer crashing in my basement but I grew up catching snakes in India. We used to catch cobras and Russel's Vipers. Saw friends die from thos bites.
Actually, an intoxicated man would be more likely to survive. Panic doesn't set in and the heart doesn't race like a sober person would keeping the venom from spreading faster. Intoxication is also better if you drown. Gasses build up in the body faster and the body floats faster making it easier to find the body but hey, a sober person swims better. stupid facts.
A minimum dosage of 100 mgs of copperhead venom is needed to cause a human fatality--however, this snake is unlikely to carry as much as 70 mgs. A strongly allergic reaction to copperhead venom COULD possibly result in a death as happened here it seems. On occasion, copperhead bites cause serious secondary reactions including gangrene that are potentially fatal; and if there are extenuating factors such as poor health or the victim being intoxicated when bitten that too could result in death.
In Missouri we have the Same species of Copperhead, they are also our most common venomous breed. But Missouri has 0 reported cases of deaths from them due to their Venom being classed as NON-fatal, Unlike other Snake around here, such as the cottonmouth and timber rattlesnakes. For one unless the people had a permit, Owning or Possessing a venomous snake is strictly ILLEGAL. But any snake(Venomous or if unsure of type) bite should be treated ASAP! And obivously not handled except by Pros.
His death is no mystery....he died of Anaphylactic shock. Everyone seems to forget that bee and ant bites cause many anaphylactic shock deaths each year. Why should it be such a supprise when a venomous snake causes death from anaphylactic shock???

@RayFHunter
Yeah I don't know why people get so confused. Even if the venom isn't "potent enough", you still treat it as such.

Wade was a friend of mine. I pray for peace for his expecting wife and his family.
