Eating right--vegetarian diet in my case since my twwenties-, is a huuge part of any strategy to optimizing health. Lastly, I have come to a point (it took a while--LOL) where I abstain totally from alcohol and drugs of any kind. Sound boring? Not at all (that's just conditioning too)--my life is full of stimulating stuff, including gaming ( a nice balance to all the fitness stuff)--I can't wait to start mountain and road biking this spring with my two new bike builds.
Yes--I believe you are right on both points. I like to look cool too, but would not do anythuing to compromise my health for that. If you can somehow get started, working out can become an integral part of your lifestyle over time--kind of like a healthy habit. Perrsonally, I have to do something physically demanding almost daily or I don't feel right--five mile run tonight. I take my dogs--it's great!
I think a great deal of the solution lies in people making healthy liifestyle choices. We all know what that involves, so why do so many people do the reverse? Take personal responsibility for your own well being--get on a bike, run, swim, what ever works for you. Eat right. Get off the booze, and drugs--your body will thank you. Sorry if that sounds like a lecture.
But cancer isn't caused by an unhealthy lifestyle is it? I do believe however that people diagnosed with cancer should try to stay positive and healthy like Lance did.
All current research would support that many cancers are caused by unhealthy lifestyle--obviously lung cancer caused by smoking is a prime example. Cancer levels in the western world are now at an epidemic level--ever wonder why? I believe it is largely due to all the harmful chemical agents we are routinely exposed to in our food, and ronment, and bad lifestyle choices geneerally. However, each individaul can do a LOT to diminish these factors in his or her life.
In memory of my cousin Les who just lost his battle with testicular cancer last Friday,12/12/08 liveSTRONG gives me hope that we will find the cure! Superb video Lance :o)

Love it! I'm asking for LAF donations instead of Xmas gifts. Giving Livestrong gear to athletic friends and family is also a great idea. Go Lance!
