  • I have a soft spot for the little spotter planes... The L-19 "Bird Dog" first flown in combat during the Korean War were used very successfully in Vietnam for aerial observation over triple canopy jungle to spot enemy positions and work in unison with forward observers and enlisted forward air controllers on the ground in directing fire support and close air support on enemy positions.. The Marine aerial observers and fixed wing pilots were by far the best at putting ordinance on the target.
