  • I got one of these from the Goodwill "bins" and stripped it down...I'm not interested in video games but am interested in electronic drums. Lot of usable parts here especially the piezos and pads. Built an extra drum pad for my kit from the parts and it works GREAT. Think I paid $3 for the entire unit.

  • Just got a GHWT set for free, though it was busted. Going to do this very soon. Thanks for the demonstration. :)

  • I just bought one of these (GH WT Drum Brain) and a dongle from eBay. My plan was to play the drum part on a hand held controller. I am disabled from a back injury and do most of my gaming from a flat laying down position.

The only problem I have now is with the bass drum. Do you happen to know if it's possible to access something that triggers the bass drum from the brain module and create a button for it? I only received the brain with no MIDI connectors or anything. Mapping it to the Dpad..

  • lots of potato chips on the ground =]

  • @TheBOSSofHALO

Those are leaves that blew in from outside.

  • @comp1demon do i need the whole drum set for the midi trick with my edrums?

  • @TheBOSSofHALO

Those are leaves that blew in from outside.

  • Its removable on the new set

  • does this work with the wii version instead of this xbox version of the drums?

  • @747hellraiser747

    yes 100%

  • I feel like I'm missing something here. I understand removing the brain from my old GHWT kit but how does it connect to my ION to give me my 5 lanes back? Im having Van Halen and Metallica withdrawals. My next step is to just buy a J5 if I can't get it to work myself.

  • @fast4four is it a Midi to 1/4 cable plugged into the empy cymbal space?

  • @fast4four When he says ION, he means a real ION electric kit, not a drum rocker. You connect the midi out of a real drum brain to the midi in on the controller. I actually did this myself before I saw his video. I am using a roland td-3.

  • ok im a complete idiot, but i just got my ionz, i have two old ghwt drum brains. i know how to get them out, i just dont understand how to get them to work with the ionz.......

  • @EliteGamerGirl You will only need the GHWT Drum Brains if you have an Electric Drum Set, such as a Roland, Yamaha or Alesis. The Ions work with both RB and GH right out of the box.

  • No my ionz don't work for Metallica or GH5. It's really ticking me off, it works fine until I get an orange note and then bam, it stops. Says the controller disconnected or some crap.

  • I thought the system was supposed to detect if its a rb or gh drum set and give you the highway for that kit. : /

  • @EliteGamerGirl

First off - If you are using just the STOCK IONS with ANY GITAR HERO GAME - METALLICA, 5 ect... you have log into Xbox live get the latest update for that game. Any Guitar hero Game without the latest update patch from live will not allow the IONS to function properly. Once you get the Update for the Game it will see you have IONS hooked up and DUMB your NOTE LANE down to 4 and get rid of the orange.

  • The only way get orange to work with ion is to Hack a GHWT set (this video) and or use a GHWT SET and the MIDI input from your E drum module set to channel 10 and the proper notes to trigger the wireless module. Only a REAL GHWT modle (hacked or in the stock set) will give you 5 lanes. You can also but a stand alone

  • I play on ps3. How do I update it? I'm pretty sure when I installed metallica, which i got at the same time as my ionz it updated itself. Am I wrong?

  • I Bought the 360 GHWT brain and midi-port w/ drum interface board separately but it only cost me 10 bucks for everything. I dremeled out the headset part out of the brain and glued in the midi-port on that opening, Looks very clean now and it works perfect. Awesome mod.

  • okay i have the brain and either the guy forgot to send the midi piece or he never had it anyone know where i can buy one?

  • ebay

  • If he send the module without the MIDI part, then he ripped you off. You have to buy the GHWT drum kit to get it. Tell him to send you it or get your money back.

  • Will the same principles apply if I am using the ghwt kit for the wii?

  • I've seen a two jacks for where the pedal goes, I don't have a WT kit, just seen it. There's a purple jack and a black one, what does the black one do?

  • if you have a yamaha dtxplorer electronic drum set, how can i get it connected to play guitar hero?

  • That Video is coming very very soon.

It's super easy. For now just use a midi cable and reset your midi sounds to the ones in the video and your golden for now.

  • @comp1demon you dude i want to buy this for chrismas and im asking is it expensive and is it hard to install i realy want play this

  • wich type of screwdriver and size do you need for the back of the drum kit?...

  • How do you what numbers to put in how to put them in?

  • does this work with a osp dd502 mkII drum brain?

cuz i connected my drum brain to wt drums and i cant configure it doing this will work?

  • It should

Make sure MIDI channel is set to 10

Make sure the pads are set to the right midi numbers.

Watch my other video on how to configure a DM5 with GHWT kit,

  • it worked but everything is messed i mean (this is a example)

the red pad is 58 instead of 39 i think and the yellow pad is the hi hat and i want a yellow tom too but i cant.

thaks for the help anyway :)

  • Hi i was wondering with this mod, i can use my alesis dm5 with surge cymbals fully right i saw your other video and it cleared some questions i had, but i was wondering doing this, i dont need to buy a kickboxer for my bass pedal right? thank you

  • If you have your PADS, CYMBALS and KICK PEDAL plugged into the DM5 and are using the Midi out to the Midi in on the Guitar Hero World Tour set - you need NOTHING ELSE - you are good to go for both GHWT games and RB games.

  • this is what i've used b4 for gh, and you just have to set it to kit # 3. I may be mistaken, but you should set up like so:

    Red(Snare)

    yellow(hi-hat)

    Blue(Tom 1)

    Green(Tom 2)

    Orange(Crash)

The only problem i had with this particular drum brain was i couldn't find a way to adjust the sensitivity for each pad.

  • i thik the only way i can play normally is buying a roland or alesis drum brain, maybe roland because is way cheaper

  • for me tho i just gave up on the midi setup and made a custom j5, i haven't had any problems since

  • thats mostly how I did mine, what ive also added to my project bob are gain control knobs to every input. This helps to prevent double hits when you hit a pad or cymbal.

  • Have you pimped your videos on Score Hero? There's a whole community of homebrewers and modders who'd benefit ;)

  • I don't have time to. You are more than welcome to embed or link to the videos if you wish. I know about a lot of Forum communities and I am a part of them, but I rather those who need my help and want to watch my videos find me - I am not doing this for attention, I am doing it to share and help - SO I did the work now let my final product be found by those who need it.
