wow i remember that strike. All i remember hearing was that the strike was over, but I never heard wot the settlement was. Then again in 2007, I didn't rlly watch the news! :p
Actually the stagehand strike was a completely different strike than the writer's strike. It had to do with the stagehand union (IATSE) making rules about too much robot automation that was taking away jobs for stagehands. Food for thought...
Zipster you just like everyone needs to make money. YOU think Stage hands make alot of money bro really....Writers make the shows make them earn millions..Actors can be replaced and have been for many years in the movie industry...Writers those for all those shows you and I used to loved to watch were made by the writers. See Zipster Ceo's earn the millions they make off of the low and middle class workers who make up this this great country.????????????
You're just going to have to suck it, zipster. Writers the most mistreated and underpayed part of the entertainment industry. Producers and other corporate types a making tons more than your average tv or film writer. The possible revenues from the internet are huge. We deserve a portion of that, and we thank the people who support us. I hope we can resolve this before you're due to perform, but we won't stop until we get our fair share.
You'r on broadway?! Nice, Anyway about this,ur right they are pu**y's =p, also they never specified on the news what TV show writers are on strike, at least not that I heard, I heard about the Late Night talk show writers are part of it, but I wonder what else, like is it abc, nbc, cbs station's shows or something, Idk, whatever, alright kool video zipster, ....Sry, I made this too long again didn't I?..*Sigh*
I didn't think stages hands even knew how to read... why would they care about the writers? I think the writers should strike for the stage hands to get paid more... seems like harder work.
In a perfect world, all of us (your fans) would be able to come and watch you perform... But since our world isn't perfect, that wouldn't be possible.
So, when/if you do your performance, is somebody going to video tape your performance for you so you can upload it to YouTube for us to see? :-D
I don't think they're being greedy. They deserve their fair share, is all. After all, none of it would be possible if they hadn't written the scripts.
Someone has probably already talked about this in a comment but I'll say it anyway. Not all the writers are super rich, I know someone who writes for maybe one of the most popular shows of the past five years they are by no means rich. The ones who are middle class have the total right to strike, they are getting practically nothing for the sale of these shows online and on dvd. I'm pretty upset about the strike because I love my TV shows, but I still support it.
I showed my support this morning for the writer's strike. I refused to make my grocery list. All kidding aside, doesn't it seem to anyone else like all the good writers have left hollywood already? I mean we have Cavemen now instead of Third Rock from the Sun.
Wait a minute. If the writers strike, then everything on tv would be reuns and we can all watch You Tube More. YEA!!!!!! (Its about all I watch anyway.)
Strike, Schmike!! I AGREE with you totally Zip. I mean this is why actors on TV get 1,000's per episode (many 1,000's) and Broadway tickets are $100 UP. I remember the days you could see a Broadway show for $55.00 bucks. NOT anymore. Stagehands SHOULD be safe but not at 100,000 a year. Geez! Anyway unions and strikes are the bane in part of this economy. You keep you the great work. Hope you get to play B'way. LYZ
I agree with the writers strike... only because I'm current a writing student at University and at the end of it I'm sure this strike will benefit me! ;-)!
Plus, it does seem quite unfair that the people who CREATE the ENTIRE show get less...
I think these guys should be responsible for their own material up to a point...it would be very hard to be creative for a show that airs new every day. We've gotten used to rapid fire funny stuff...can we get used to stuff that bombs occasionally?? :)
I think they all make ridiculous amounts of money as it is. The way it snowballs is because of the damn unions. The members of (SAG) actor and other unions won't cross the picket line of the writer's union. So if one goes on strike, more than likely the others have the time off as well. Unions suck.
Unions also do good too they can protect workers rights so that employers can't take advantage of them like working people just below thw hours needed to make them full time
so that they don't have to give them benifites or promoting new employees over those who have worked there because new labor is cheaper
Yeah but then the improvisers become the 'writers', everything would have to be split between all the actor/writers involved, and they would all have the grievances with the studios when they didn't get paid decent residuals.
You're missing the point. I support the writers because if it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage. It's not fair that the actors get royalties from syndicated shows while the writers don't. It should be a fair exchange and right now it's not.
Zipster i was kinda wondering the same thing. Jay Leno was a comedian before and I don't know where Letterman came from . I'm sure a bunch of You-Tubers could write their scripts given the proper incentives.
zipster, while i was watching your video, an ADVERTISEMENT for Seinfeld downloads popped up across your screen. What is that about?? ps. I hate Seinfeld, and now I have one more reason to hate him.
I thought the same thing about Ellen... I don't know why it's so bad that Ellen wants to do her own thing... I'm sure that she supports her writers; she just doesn't have a problem with writing her own stuff too!
Well, she did start off doing stand-up and I think she wrote her own stuff back then. She probably co-writes for her show anyway, so she'll just be writing more for a while.
i can get it up on my tv in my bedroom and well on anytv thats got internet access lol, id hope they dont show my things! lol, how embarrasing! but i had thought of a youtube tv channel, but would they be able to show things like this? wuld it be more public access? lol, thanks for the infomation!!!
IMO writers don't get the credit they deserve in movies/tv shows.
Personally, I think other people in certain area's are already over-paid (actors, etc) but it should be more evened out with the writers/directors/actors/etc in terms of how much money they get.
I read somewhere that on dvd sales, the people that make the bloody plastic covering make more per dvd sale then the writer...and that is just not fair imo.
The stagehands aren't out in support of the writers. I agree there's greed involved in the writers' strike, but their point is that others are getting a lot of money from putting their work on new media. Is that fair?
the writers are not greedy. wouldn't you want to get paid for your work or is it ok with you that someone could continue to make money off your work and you see none of it? I think the writers are right in this instance.
The stage hands are not striking in support of the writers, they're striking to get more stagehands backstage during the performances. They say they're working under unsafe conditions, while others say you only need one person to pull a rope...
While Im sure that a small percentage of the WGA membership are doing just fine, the vast majority of them arent so fortunate and really do deserve more. When you have to wait tables to pay the bills your art definetly suffers, and some brilliant work comes out of those very people.
I don't THINK the writer's strike and the stagehands strike have anything to do with each other. I could be wrong - totally - but I think they are separate strikes and you will probably be OK on Broadway PDQ - lots and lots of money being lost there. ya know. TV can sail on for a while before anybody notices its all old crap - no new crap.
So you think that the producers find another way to make money off a production and cut everyone else out, and that should be okay. Why are they the "Money Grubbing Producers?" Why is it always the working man who gets the bad wrap? The stagehands have been working without a contract for 1 1/2 years. Stonewalled for a cost of living raise, by those poor producers. Wrong subject Zipster. Bad Karma.
You hit the nail on the head Zip! This doesnt affect the writers, nor the studio execs, nor the actors. It's affecting the low folks like me, that do what I do on the networks. They don't make much money in the first place and now they are out of a job because damn writers who make a kabootle of money want more money. Love ya!
Terry you crack me up! You don't need any writers you are too much all alone, who needs other people to write when you are as witty and creative as you are! ciao bello, Reynaldo with love & peace in San Francisco Baby!
I could be wrong (as Inspector Monk would say), but I don't think there's a connection between the stagehands' strike and the writers' strike. The stagehands want more money, and the writers want residuals on new media. N'est-ce pas?
lol.. I was just talking about this with my dad, what a cowinqadinc, haha. My favorite show The Office last episode of the new season airs thursday because of the strike, no new episodes were written :/.. same with the daily show and colbert report. Oh well.. hopefull you'll still go on Broadway.
Most Unions have out-lived their value. I'm with you Zipster, they are just greedy. The stagehands are stopping lots of other folks from working. You can bet that whatever they get will be passed on to the ticket price. This will continue to make Broadway too expensive for most young people.
"Joey Bishop or whoever the hell is on tv these days" LMAO... Oh Zippy... time does fly way too fast :/ Yup, Joey Bishop is on tv nowadays together with Dean, Sammy and Ol' Blue Eyes, and this is 1974! Wooooo...
I hope you get to play on Broadway too! That would be awesome!
We should have more improv shows, like "Who's Line is Anyway?" I miss that show. And hey! Raymond and Will and Grace are my favorites too! lol....but overall, I agree the writers should get their money too. Until then I will stick to watching youtube!
You're a hell of a writer to me, lyrically and you speak off the cuff and I love it. Now's our chance, let's just write the damned material ourselves! All will be sorted before Broadway, which by the way, congrats! - From long, long lost John ;)
Writers work is always undermined by the studios! It always has been. Third party strikes or actions have been made illegal in th UK. Perhaps the US should take on some of Maggies trade law!!! You know Maggie Thatcher, our Prime Minister who didn't get support from the US in the Falklands War!
I don't watch T.V. either. I could care less if we have cable, but the hubby on the other hand, geesh, he even sleeps with the T.V. on. I try to shut it off, and he wakes up.
Boy oh boy, I could have written this comment verbatim! ... and he wakes up bitching, "Hey! I was watching that!", right? ... even though his program was over HOURS ago and it's now a freakin INFOMERCIAL!
You know, I don't feel much sympathy for those multimillionaires who lose a few bucks to pirates. They're practically living Blackbeard's motto: "A short life and a merry one!"
I was tired and went to bed early tonight. I woke up thirsty and remembered I did not see a video from you tonight. Hell, I can't sleep without my Zipster fix.. You always make me laugh.. 3 more days.....
Plus they arent getting money for DVD sales, its so stupid, its bullshit.. Georgia is running out of water and they are worried about not getting paid enough... Its beyond me Zip! But where you performing at? Anyway, oh and the all the comedy shows are re-runs like jay leno, daily show, david letterman, your right, write their own damn scripts!
Well, in this world today the unions have lost the power they had when we were kids. It has especially influenced blue collar jobs, that have gone overseas. Now, when it comes to the writers, they should be careful not to cut off the nose to spite the face. Stage hands probably do have a cause. Good Luck Zip, hope your show will still fly!
I love tv and if this messes with my season, dang it, I'm going to, well, load up the freezer with ice cream or something. I need to numb myself somehow.
The stagehands aren't on strike to support writers, they're on strike for financial/insurance reasons. The Theatre industry in NY alone makes hundreds of millions, but stagehands, the people that run the whole show, get the shaft salary-wise. Basically stage companies have gotten to the point where they expect to always have stagehands so they take them for granted.
wow i remember that strike. All i remember hearing was that the strike was over, but I never heard wot the settlement was. Then again in 2007, I didn't rlly watch the news! :p

They don't make much money in the first place and now they are out of a job because damn writers who make a kabootle of money want more money. Love ya!

"Thank u. u bunch of sissys" lol. I am glad the writers are on strike. Gives me time to catch up on missed episodes. lol

Terry you crack me up! You don't need any writers you are too much all alone, who needs other people to write when you are as witty and creative as you are! ciao bello, Reynaldo with love & peace in San Francisco Baby!

I think this is where you and I disagree especially because many writers throughout history have gotten the shaft.

Yeah, when you get a show I guess you lose all your ability to think and be creative on your own anymore???

stagehand strike is unrelated to the writer's strike, just coincidental.

Joey Bishop, is that the guy who side-kicked with Cardinal Rule?
RonSchira 4 years ago
I could be wrong (as Inspector Monk would say), but I don't think there's a connection between the stagehands' strike and the writers' strike. The stagehands want more money, and the writers want residuals on new media. N'est-ce pas?

Unions are a plague! I say let 'em eat Spam. Who watches tv anyway? As long as Youtube keeps rockin', who cares?
You can probably pick up a few stage hands for the offer of a sixpack and a joint or two, and the show WILL go on. :-)

Most Unions have out-lived their value. I'm with you Zipster, they are just greedy. The stagehands are stopping lots of other folks from working. You can bet that whatever they get will be passed on to the ticket price. This will continue to make Broadway too expensive for most young people.

I personally think tv is dying, and they need to stop fighting it and jump on the bandwagon of the future! which is computerized media, of course.

sorry man i don't agree here. Writers MAKE the show more than any others (even actors, crew, or producers), and they deserve their due here.
SwobyJ 4 years ago
I hope you get to play on Broadway too! That would be awesome!
We should have more improv shows, like "Who's Line is Anyway?" I miss that show. And hey! Raymond and Will and Grace are my favorites too! lol....but overall, I agree the writers should get their money too. Until then I will stick to watching youtube!
CrutonInaMo 4 years ago
You're a hell of a writer to me, lyrically and you speak off the cuff and I love it. Now's our chance, let's just write the damned material ourselves! All will be sorted before Broadway, which by the way, congrats! - From long, long lost John ;)

Writers are essential for TV shows! However some shows have past their sell by dates, ie 24
Surely writers sign contracts. If they don't do it right, they get nothing from residuals ie DVD.
In the UK it's governed by contract and royalties! In depends what they sign up for!
MaxStent 4 years ago
Writers work is always undermined by the studios! It always has been. Third party strikes or actions have been made illegal in th UK. Perhaps the US should take on some of Maggies trade law!!! You know Maggie Thatcher, our Prime Minister who didn't get support from the US in the Falklands War!
MaxStent 4 years ago
Well, Zipster.
This won't be the last time the ACTORS go on strike.
their CONTRACT is up next year.
I think the ACTORS is waiting how much the writers get with their NEW contract.
Then, all the actors will want the same amount next year when they RENEW their contract.

I don't watch T.V. either. I could care less if we have cable, but the hubby on the other hand, geesh, he even sleeps with the T.V. on. I try to shut it off, and he wakes up.

Anyway,

Well, in this world today the unions have lost the power they had when we were kids. It has especially influenced blue collar jobs, that have gone overseas. Now, when it comes to the writers, they should be careful not to cut off the nose to spite the face. Stage hands probably do have a cause. Good Luck Zip, hope your show will still fly!

Broadway show union strike is NOT about the writers strike. Broadway stage hands et etc union has been without a contract since July 07.
