Regarding the "600 intellectuals": unfortunately, these are all people out of favour with mainstream voters in Poland. The present government, allied with Rydzyk, regards the intellectual opposition as allied with the old Communist order. There is a new left-wing opposition, but its very young leaders need at least five years to gain experience and judgment. Then things will change and Rydzyk can be jailed.
