  • she is not lip syncing the video is just lagged!

  • I just died a little...this is fantastic :) GOD SAVE THE QUEEN (OF SOUL)

  • RAGTIME!!! yay Brian Stokes Mitchell <3

  • That song brought tears to my eyes. I first heard Three Mo' Tenors sing it. WOW! What a powerful song.

  • I heard/saw Brian Stokes Mitchell sing this and I wept.

  • I love you Re

  • My favorite song from my favorite musical. Nobody sings it like Brian Stokes Mitchell. It really needs a big booming voice. Maybe Jennifer Holliday. That being said, Aretha sounds wonderful singing it.

  • Aretha reclaims her throne atop the musical genius' of our time. Aretha is in the best vocal form I've heard her in ages in this clip, clear good voice, and her signature vocal delivery always with a hint of gospel/blues(hence the gritty rasp) She may not have sang this in the broadways style sister re Aretha-ized this into a gospel opus. You're back my queen, you're back!

  • Wow. Just wow. I'm not even sure what to make of that. That was....well, it was something.

  • yikes that was a mess...especially at the end

  • are you high? this is amazing

  • amazing wow we must ahev really different meanings for that word... i know she is singing this in a differnt style than musical theatre which this song is from... but no she kinda trashed the song...lol2:47 to the end... the scratchy high notes and unsupported tone? yikes!!!!!!

  • Oh you are full of crap! This was an amazing reading by Aretha. She brought so much emotion out of this song, she did no such thing as trash it. If anything she brought so much more to this song than anyone else did. From start to finish Aretha was amazing and that is the bottomline.

  • Oh my God. Have you ever seen Ragtime, or even heard Brian Stokes Mitchell's version? Please don't make ridiculous claims like "she brought so much more to this song than anyone else did". That's bullshit and super offensive to people who actually know the context in which this song was meant.

  • My claims are not ridiculous they happen to be facts. I have heard those interpretation are all good but none compare to Aretha's passionate cover.

  • I...don't even know where to start. So I won't.

  • the context would apply for aretha as well. remember, she came to prominence during the civil and women's right era. she was friends with and a great supporter of Dr. King. she knows from which she sings.

  • Comment removed

  • She always does well on this song; it must really inspire her. She was great singing it just a couple of weeks ago at Mandela Day.

  • Size shouldn't matter,

    She's a singer

    It's about her voice.

To be beautiful as a singer.

It relies solely on your voice.

That makes Aretha Franklin one of the more beautiful people.

I have nothing but respect for her.

  • Very well said........Thank you for saying that,,,I completely agree...........

  • wonderful arrangement and lyrics and beautifully sung

  • I don't what people say. Aretha no matter what state her voice is in she can still take my breath away. Spectacuar. This is why is she queen.

  • shhh

    who cares?

  • Im not picking a fight, here but I find your response interesting. ok, Im just curious. So, you couldnt care less if she tips over because of a heart attack?...you're fine with the prospect of her not recording well into her 70's?.

  • no ur right i would be soooo sad if she didnt

she should lose weight as sad asit is

but she is quite a bit on the larger scale

and she really should lose some weight

cuz it would b awful not to hav her around

    as long as she could

  • Well i hate to kind of tell you but Aretha has lost a tremendous amount of weight. She's been focusing more on her health and is looking better and more healthy.

  • IF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE, why would you "hate" telling me something like that?...Im excited for her and I cant wait to see the "new" Aretha. What exactly does a tremendous amount look like? Last time I saw her I didnt really notice any significant weight loss..

  • For future reference it is possible to make a point with couth.

  • Take care of your own health, you can control it, not hers. Meanwhile, you can show concern without unkindness.

  • a prayer for aretha : it distresses me my Queen, The Gracious Aretha was made to wear this, I know her supreme talent is way way above fashion but she looked like she got out of bed and forgot she's still under the duvet..her hair extension seemed it was marinaded overnight in curry powder...but still, i love you Aretha..

  • but I agree with you on the hair extensions, awful! lol

  • please don't hate me, i love aretha... but:

    a) what is with her hair?

    b) they way she does showtunes urkes me. the original version is sooooo much better (without her riffs). plus, when she sang i dreamed a dream at the clinton inauguration i wanted to die.

she's talented, but this song was never meant to be sung like that.

    go ahead, "thumbs down" me.

  • My main complaint with "showtunes" are they are too "beat" based, so I think anytime there is more soul added it's a plus. You'll notice she phrases it just perfectly to fit around the meaning of the song. That's what soul singers do. I think her interpretation of I Dreamed A Dreams were amazing, and the best I've ever heard. The way she placed special emphasis on every word brought the meaning out to me.

  • unfortunately you didn't...maybe the next one'll do it....smile

    saaaaang Re!

  • Shes absolutely incredible! Shes got so much soul in her voice and there will never be anyone else like her

  • This is beautiful!!!

  • No one can deny Aretha has lost some of what her voice was when she was younger. That's just due to the fact she is older and has been singing for so long. But no one can say, and this proves it, that she hasn't lost passion and soul for singing.

  • she is the one and only songer that can make me cry along with billie holiday and mary j blige gladys diana ross barbra str. and sometimes patti but aretha and mary are the true soul singers that the emotions is not force its natural coming from the heart n gut

  • Good God, Beautiful - would be nice for credits at the end of a movie.

  • Wow! That is all I can say!

  • YES HONEY!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love aretha and mary vocally there not good but emotionally they can give that makes you feel them thats why their my two favorite singers along side marvin gaye and dennis edwards from the temptations

  • im singing this in my school choir... i LOVE this song!

  • I would love to hear her sing this at the Inaugaration! (I know I spelt that wrong) lol. Long Live the Queen!

  • That wasn't "Make Them Hear You." That was "Musical Musings of Aretha Franklin inspired by the song Make Them Hear You." Making a song your own has changed meanings from...finding a deep connection to the piece that is personal to you...to...change notes and rhythms whenever and wherever you feel like.

  • I CAN'T understand it. HOW can THIS woman make me every time cry? I love HER...

  • Because she undersands what she sings, why she sings, and is able to communicate this to her listeners. She is full of soul, a consummate singer. This is what musical art is all about. I love her, too.

  • its a great performance, but it kinda sounds nothing like the original song, the rhythym is completely different

  • of corse, the original is a broadway number, Aretha's gospel runs and inflections come natural to her, even if she was to sing the yellow pages, so it was clear she was going to give it a different reading

  • I sang this song with my school's chorus and I adore it. She did it so much justice and brought out the true meaning of the song.

  • Lip syncing? This is Aretha Franklin, the Queen of soul not Brittney Spears.

  • So much heart so much beauty so so very much talent....I love this woman...

  • This is wonderful! Aretha is the best! Even though all these years her voice is still perfect!!

  • earth goddess

  • it would help if she knew the lyrics

  • so so true.

  • I love this song but only as a baritone's song. I love aretha and she is god to soul but i think she may have hurt the song a bit. I love "Ragtime" listen to it when a baritone sing it. It will sound better. It was written for a male baritone anyway. Don't get me wrong this is still amazing.

  • This is beautiful!!!

  • Until she passes, Aretha will be the Queen of Soul

  • She'll always be the Queen of Soul... even after she passes.

  • You're right wendy, she will ALWAYS be the QUEEN OF SOUL!!

  • WONDERFUL!!!!

  • dummy the vid. is slow

  • This is the way the video came out. She is singing this song live. You seldom see aretha lipping a performance because she is terrible at faking it.

  • The sound and the video tracks aren't in sync, thats what makes it look like that....this was live.

  • she isnt lip singing, are u blind, the video is faster than her voice, u never catch aretha lip singing. She is a real artist

  • LOL...its because the music track isn't synced with the video...thats all, this wasn't lip synced.

  • There is no one like Aretha. Aretha will never die!!

  • I love this. Thank you very much for sharing it.

  • Aretha! Whew we hear you! And it's beautiful!

  • amen amen!!

  • Yes it is!!!

  • Aretha's voice can charm the morning dew off of a honeysuckle.

  • This is wonderful

  • Where was this?
