  • Well ya beat me to it! I was thinking the same thing but I was looking for a axial ball socket for the top pivotal point. Had to kick the idea around, result a Droid cell phone holder with a ball joint with a the original cradle for the helo platform surface. Will possibly use a a CB radio spring for some controlled movement of the main stand pipe as well. Will possibly you tube it. I have a Walkera 59QD to get used to myself. Nice Job on yours, thanks for sharing the idea.

  • How is the heli mounted to stand?

  • What kind of pontoon helis are they

  • hahah dave pervert

  • I took the time to build your stand for my new T-rex 600 copter. Being new to the hobby, I was amazed at how it lifted the stand and carried it off into the next neighborhood over. Have not found all the pieces yet, but looking forward to my next adventure with RC toys.

  • @monstersdoexist that would have been a shock trex 600 is way to powerful for that little stand

  • How do you think this stand would work for a T-Rex 600 Nitro Pro? Should the stand have a multitude of bungee cords and a heavier base? What would you do? I have the heli listed above and haven't flown it yet and crashed it once on the maiden "flight." I want to test it with your apparatus before costing myself more money. Thank you. ~Max.

  • sweet ideal man that would have save me alot of money lol uppps lol to late . :)

  • Just built one of your training stands and it works great! I bought a used ninja 400 3d pro that someone had wrecked because all of the dip switches and the head geometry was all wrong. I am happy to say i was able to get everything straightened out as it should be all thanks to this video and your training stand =)

  • I'd like to buy one of those training kits if you can make me one. You can email me at rambojohn7118@msn.com

    Thanks,

    Lenny

  • what did you use to attach the heli to the 1/4" ply?

  • ok, what is the purpose of the bolt in the center of the base? Why is it needed? Once the 24" steel rod is installed what is the bolts purpose?

  • This would be great for nose in hover!!! Bravo!

  • thats pretty cool

  • nice, thx but whats the name of the background music.

  • I See a Marine Corps Sticker on the back of the Mower, O0oRahh?

  • Hi nice video,

I have a question, the ramin rod size is 1/4" and the Flat shoulder bolt is 1/4" this will not work is there a typo? should the ramin rod be 1/2".

    Thanks

  • Lol turn the subtitles on It says : Andry Pervert XD

  • Love your stand, except for one problem. Never flew a helicopter and bought the Blade 400. Build the stand and had the rod coming out half way. Had the Blade 400 at the maximum height, as the heli tilted forward it actually pulled the hole stand to the ground. Damages that I see, Broken blades and multi cracks on the nose. I noticed that pulling on the stand fully extended does not require a lot of force, compared to having the rod coming out only 6 inches.

  • @me69herdaily Just came with an idea of adding an extension to the base so we have a larger radius by about 12 inches, but removable so the maximum diameter stays at 24 inch for easy transport. This should solve my tilting problem. I have many ideas that I am testing. Will post my final design. Happy Flying.

  • I just got the esky 3d today, is it worth it?

  • nice i will have to make one to test my heli's on before i crash them

  • great information, thanks 4 sharin, have anyone used MACs newest product line?! it is difficult to obtain make-up in Rollingwood but i managed to get awesome cosmetics samples using 'Gratis Makeup Samples'! they're ace.

  • I think you have a very good idea there. I got it it right the first time, so i wouldnt need it. No i didn`t really do that.

  • If the training stands are still avalable, I would be intrested in buying one from you. I have an E-Flight Blade CP-Pro 2. Can you let me know if I can order one? I would need to know the total cost for the stand and shipping to north-east Pa. Thanks

  • So do you sell the kit that I can put it together?

  • NIce, congratulations

  • I'm sure you have copyright, if not you should do it and sell to the shops !

  • hai .... can I use this training stand for honeybee FP v2 ?? thanks alot

    indra9110

  • wow. i would rather do this than the flying simulation they sell on the net. this is pretty accurate and very close to the real thing. Nice job NightFlyyer.

  • how did you screw the receiver group onto the base

  • all the parts are at home depot and it is about $40.00 can not get the the 1, 24 " long by 2x2" wide foam insulator strip (cut to 2x2x2" squares.

  • LOL! nice!

What is the song in the background called? me likes!

  • Dave, this is a great tool to learn how to fly the heli, could you please PM me so I can send you payment on this wonderful kit. I can't make my own because of building constriction of where I live. Thank Dave..!

  • Hey Dave, you're Heli Training Test Stand is gaining popularly! Here's the URL to prove that, GREAT!!

  • Hi Dave, I love your videos on RC Helicopters and Jets and have learn a lot. I'm not though succeeding on finding those floats you mention on one of your videos on how to make them. The ones I find at my local stores are too fat. Could you please tell me where you purchase those floats or a website I can go to. I too would like to install these cool floats as I am a beginner in the RC world of flying, thanks Dave!

  • for the base I already had scrap around the rest cost me approx $11; as I couldnt find a flange and steel tube I used a tubed table leg that had a plate welded on; so only had to screw to the base wood.

The main thing is that it's a simple effective idea, MANY THANKS Dave (now to go buy the heli )

  • I've been flying my t-rex 450 pro for about 2 months now, It's my first real hobby grade heli. I wish I had known of this idea when i started, but I think Im past that now. Only went through about five sets of baldes, shafts,etc...but cool vid, this will help alot of newbs...Nice job...

  • great idea. mine won't lift off. even at full power. how should the controls move the blades? vids on my page. thnx.

  • COuld you PM me the part List?

  • That is a great idea Dave! I would love to build one for my blade 400. Can you please pm me a parts list so I can build one. Thank you for all your help.

  • Could you please pm me the blueprints for this apparatus? Thanks.

    JB

  • do you attach the piece of wood directly to the skids on the bottom?

  • Excellent period of instruction Marine!

    Semper Fi

  • i dont understand the need to make the base wobbly. the platform to which you attach the helicopter pivots at all angles so what does having a wobbly base do?

  • @uztoobz If the assembly is to stiff, you could actually bend the rotor shaft if you have a hard movement (since the heli has a lot of power), therefore fast acceleration but almost instant stop. (no decelaration = extreme G= bent shaft. Have some nice flying.

  • i come from Germany, i love your clips i will learn about Heli.... thanks...

  • awesome idea. I'm going to give this a try :)

  • sure will save money -good idea maybe let my friends try -lol !!??

  • 5 stars just for the background music alone.

  • keep up the great work , this will help me learn to fly a heli for sure .... especially when its cold out side HaHaHa . i have seen the stand your talking about with the arm, back in RCM in 1990 , one of the reasons i never got a heli just plane kits

  • Ideen muß man haben. - Gut gemacht, 5 Sterne.

  • good job...

  • haha, i love the background music! and great video mate!

  • could you send parts list please from a total novice.

  • hi there,.. thanks for sharing this valuable knowledge with us. I really need this helicopter stand. Can I get the part lists to build this stand and the instruction manuals?

  • THIS is exactly the training aid I need. And I know I can make it even if I can not fly yet. Is the centre pole just an old broomstick made of wood?

  • That's great! Are you selling kits or could you send me a parts list?

  • Great!! i just ordered my first rc helicopter, bet i will nedd to build me one of those before my heli comes. thanks alot 4 the video, will sure help alot!

  • what are the orange airbags for?

    GREAT invention!!

  • Thank you so much Night! Great Idea! I haven't found a sim that works worth a darn, and the floor scooting does not work out so well.

  • were do u get the orange air bags

  • there is a video where he makes it

  • Genius man, thanks for inveting these. Impressive that I could be able to communicate with a mastermind like you are...and don't forget to keep your eyes in the nose :P that was an awesome tip for me...Greetz from Brazil.

  • Re heli's skidding to left as they get light...ya gotta bite the bullet & give it more power to lift clear of the ground/floor! It's natural for them to skid, but you find you can correct it AFTER lift-off! It takes nerve, but do it & see! Nice training aid for setting up a heli for sure. Ensure it is trimmed on the aid first tho!

  • Dear Nightflyyer,

I came accross some pictures of a flight trainer, but different style. I wanted to mail them to you but I can't find your e-mail address.

Tell me if you are interested.

    Best regards,

    Peter

  • Good Day Dave;

I am brand new to this hobby of RC helicopter flying. I just recently purchased my first gently used (only two very short flights of a 2.4 GHz RC Blitz Tornado. I have been flying my simulator for about a month and began searching the internet for other training aids. I found your vidoes and have watched repeatedly. Can you send me your parts list and instructions to build your training aid. Thanks in advance for your help. You are the man!

  • Comment removed

  • Hi Dave would you be able to PM the part list to me as well. I just bought Belt CP V2. I am so eager to fly after watching your video. That really inspires me. Thank you so much Dave.

  • what are those orange things made of?

  • Thanks for the parts list and instructions!

Dave, you are one heck of a nice guy. So many people would not be willing to give away the parts lists and instructions like you send out. They would want to make some money out of it, which you could certainly do - it's that good! But, you give it away. Thanks for being one of the really great guys in the heli hobby.

  • Fantastic idea, and great work. I am just getting into helis and would love to build one of these. Would you please PM me the parts list?

    Thanks NightFlyer!

  • Thanks. On the way.

  • WOW,,,,, this is a great idea.,,,, however,, it is way, way, too hard for me to build something like this.

All I did for my training stand is take a 4'x4' little sheet of plywood.. get a heavy duty staple gun and staple a 2 foot piece of string or you could even drive a nail into the center of the plywood and bend it over on a 2 or 3 foot piece of string ,, and tie the other end on the bottom center of the training balls and go for it. You will be able to learn your hover just fine.

  • Dave that this is great any chance you can sent me the plans, keep up all the great work!!!!!!

  • On the way in a PM.

  • Could you please send me the parts list & omstructions in how to build a test stand similar to yours? It's an ingenious idea. Coz I can't get anywhere a good RC Simulator & I want to learn to fly my HBK2 without the hassle of crashing it (It's had way too many of those & It's been sitting on the ground more often than it flies.)

    NZ

    -King Of The Skies-

  • Great idea...Ill be hitting home depot this weekend. Thanks. All these guys requesting the parts list? why dont they just pause the video and jot it down??

  • hello dave, i,m new to heli flying but have a good idea on how they work. my question to you is i have a hb king 2 and as soon as it gets light on its skids all it wants to do is slide left no matter how much i trim it. its no trying to yaw but just slide .swash plate is level blade pitch is good heli is balenced fly bar paddels are level and all trims are set acording to your vidios. im at a loss. any help would be appreciated. great vidios very informative thanks john

  • I have the exact same problem with my HB K2... I wonder if it's a design flaw? Mine also keeps re-acquiring a slight forward drift (I trim it out, but it comes back...) which added to the left-slide makes it orbit in circles most of the time... I'm going to make this test stand and see if I can iron out what it's doing while still enough to see linkages up close while running... :-> I can hover most copters with a try or two, but this HBK2 seems "buggy"... maybe TOO cheaply made???

  • If you move the right stick to the right, the swashplate should tilt right, and flybars tilt right. Also, due to gyro precess, you have to jump it up to eye level hover, where it should be trimmed there, not on the ground. Trying to control it 1 inch off the ground is difficult. Get it up in the air and see what happens, just don't chop the throttle too fast when coming back down.

  • Dude!!! this is one awsome invention!!!!!! I'm going to make a training stand tomorrow for my AXE CPv3 Thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks very much and good luck with it.

  • Anything that helps a novice test his machine and get used to his machine is a tool, not ridiculous.

  • dave thank you for the vids i am learning alot from them i just got my first honey bee could i get a part list and instructions thanks .

  • Thanks. I pm you the list. Good luck.

  • Thanks kindly. PM'ing the list.

  • i need to make a tail rotor for mine becuase mine broke have you got any idea how i could make one?

  • I'm afraid your best bet is to buy another one.

  • Awesome idea! Going shopping for parts. Where did you source your springs? If you have your Heli tips and rules of thumb handy I sure would appreciate them. Thanks!!

  • Thanks. I got the springs at Ace Hardware. Ill send you the parts list and my rules of thumb. Good luck,

    Dave

  • Thanks for all you do! You have help me a lot! You should sell a DVD. Could you Pm me a parts list & instructions?

  • Thanks. Instructions away..

  • is there a change in your you tube account? i was trying to send you a message via you tube and i got a reply from you tube saying that the account was closed. please reply.

  • Nope, Im still here.

  • these computers give messages that certainly confuse, well at least they confuse me. but am glad everything is status quo. i took my brand new flyzone diablo edf out for a maiden flight. well i got it up and was doing a low level banking left turn and well it crashed. me and my rc buddy felt that there was not enough power.

  • Can you make a video of one of your bigger scale helicopter on the test stand. please.

  • My bigger ones are gas and I don't really need to mess up my clean stand. It is designed for 400-600 electric helis only. My gas ones could cause tipping. It works exactly the same though, no matter what you put on it.

  • Brilliant idea NightFlyyer.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • How much for all the parts.

  • about $40

  • Could ya Pm me a list of parts? THanks! I love your vids btw. :)

  • ON the way.

  • you should patent that idea and sell it :P

  • he does sell it.. its a kit for 120 dollars

  • i love your video " build test stand " i already crash 2 helis . with your test stand it will save my new GENESIS 450 PE. also i watch your video " how you check and inspect your Blue Ray 450 PE."

Did you have to make any adjustment on your Blue Ray 450 PE, before you fly it. Thank you for the test stand idea.

  • Thanks kindly. I made no adjustments on my Blu ray, except the Pitch knob slightly moved to get a good hover

  • how much was the helli?

  • I paid $450 for it when I got it Last year.

  • I already left a comment on part 2 but again... Thanks a million for the video. This one made it to my FAVORITES. Wonderful idea and very kind of you to share with the world. Thanks.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • Amazing idea, could you please PM me a parts list. After dumping $100 into my new heli on the first day I decided to do some research and actually learn how to fly before I jumped into it. Thanks

  • Thanks. List is away in a PM.

  • Comment removed

  • hiya Dave,

excellent vid, could you P.M me the parts list please.

    Thanx in advance

    Anthony

  • Thanks. Parts list Pmed.

  • Great job you have one for newbi like me and wonder if you can mail me the assy´s instruction and parts and since I live in Denmark ,I am going to go for meteric system. Thanks again for the great job.

  • I will pm them to you, but in in English standard. Sorry my metrics are a bit off. LOL.

  • Dave, Thanks for the Info really cool device think I will build one. On question though, What are the orange bags on the gear. are they for orentation? Thanks

  • Your welcome. The orange bags are Pontoons for water but mostly for being able to see better.

Check out my video "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them if you cant see them". I show how to make them and what they are good for. Thanks.

  • Dave, wanna thank you for the videos, I just bought a Lama V4, got it home and went right to it, shortly thereafter I determined I was either going to give up or spend a lot on parts learning to fly, and I really wanted to learn how to fly an RC heli. Went online to find advice on how to fly and your YouTube clips were at the top of the list, I'm building a training stand tomorrow, I can't thank you enough. Byron

  • Thanks kindly and good luck.

  • I just got my first 6-channel heli and struggling to hover. I would appreciate a parts list and ur tips for first timers. I have found your vids really helpful. Thanks

  • Tips away in a PM. Thanks for the kind words and good luck.

  • thats great i am going to build one for myself and friends thanks

  • Thanks. Let me know if you want the Parts list and ass'y instructions.

  • and much profit........good

  • You are one innovative guy! :D 5stars

  • Thanks very kindly. Necessity is the mother of invention, ya know.

  • Good for you and thanks for your comments. Glad your doing well.

  • your video's are great. I keep finding more to watch any tips pm'd additionally to the stand instructions are highly appreciated.

  • On the way in a PM. Good luck.

  • Great Idea. Thank you for this information.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • would little dollie wheels work on the bottom

  • It would slide around too much, I fear. IT needs some sponge shock absorbers.

  • Awesome bought a blade 400 11 months ago and I gave up . I would love to build this to learn to fly. When you get a chance could I get a pm with instructions on building this amazing invention?

  • I will PM the parts list and instructions. Thanks for your comments and good luck.

  • could i have your heli if it being wasted?

  • LOL. Well it is not wasted yet.

  • wen will it be wasted? im serious here

  • Wasted meaning crashed? Hopefully never.

  • LOL just joking all the time! soz if i confused u!

  • @scottsl1050 If you still have the heli, it came with the 6Dxi radio. This radio is programmed for 3D flying and you will have problem even doing a simple hover (should not say simple, it is not that easy). But if you lower the power, pitch etc.. curve setting on the radio, you can tame this heli and actually fly it, and once you are use to it you can raise the setting slowly untill you are at the 3D level.

Get this ebook Setup & Tips For 400 Size RC Helicopters by J. Salt and you will fly.

  • your videos are great. i would like a parts list and the nine heli tips please

  • Pm'ed them to you just now.

  • Excuse my ignorance but what does it mean to have the parts list "PM". I would love to build this stand as I am new to this and crashed my Revell White Wolf seconds after take-off. I have ordered the Eagle 50 "by mistake" and then the HB MK3. I will practrice on the simulator and then the HB before taking the Eagle 50 for a ride. How can I possibly get the parts list.

    -Harold

  • PM mean Private Message. I will send you my parts list in one and you may want to request my 9 heli flying tips too. Good luck.

  • Dave....

Great idea!!! I have been "flying" my Blade 400 with a small hula hoop attached to the skids, but this test stand will be a better solution I think. Please PM a parts list and a copy of your setup tips.... I think with this stand and the hoop I will be successful.

  • Thanks kindly. Parts list is away and good luck.

  • very nicely done! ill be building one soon.

you are very informative, thank you very much for your insights. keep up the good work.

  • Thanks kindly. Good luck.

  • Hey dave, I am new to the sport and purchased the Blade 400 as my first helo.... I was wondering if you could PM that parts list, and if you could add any tips to managing the Blade 400 as well it would be much apreciated. Thanks and Take care!

  • I will send the parts list, then my 9 heli tips. Thanks and good luck,

    Dave

  • Dave,

Great video here, could you also PM me the parts list for the stand, I am teaching a 15 year old to fly for the first time, and this looks to be a great training tool. Wish I would have had this a few years ago.

  • Thanks. I'm PMing you the parts list. Make sure to watch Part II of this video for more. I assume your accomplished now that your going to teach, so good luck with your student.

  • hello Mr. Dave, i was wondering if you could do me the GREAT favor and possibly PM to me the parts list and instructions for the training/test stand if you happen to have it, i would be most grateful and i do thank you for taking your time to read all of these messages and emails from people i know it must me hard and thank you for answering questions i have had in the past as well. you have really helped me with getting into and this fun hobby rc helicopter flying =)

  • tpyo "...it must BE hard and...."

  • On the way in a PM. Thanks and good luck.

  • what was in the end so that you can screw it in

  • Not sure of your question. You mean screw the heli skid plate or ????

  • What are those orange floats on ur honey bee ??

  • Those are pontoons and on there so I can see it better. See my video "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them if you cant see them"!

  • Hi Dave,

I purchased a Blade 400 and need your training stand kit to set up the bird correctly. The folks at Horizon did not set the DX6I correctly. I currently use a lazy suzan but that has limitations. Please p.m. me regarding how you want payment got sending me a complete kit. Thanks Blade6339

  • I'm not in a position to make them right now until winter due to some big projects I am involved with at the moment. I will PM you the parts list and instructions and you can go from there and build your own.

  • how did you attach the helicopter to the plank?

  • I used Rubber Bands around the landing gear skids.

  • As with all the other comments, thanks for a great video and tool. I'm on a cx2 right now and moving up to a Blade 400 this week. This stand is in my plans this week as well. Could you please PM me the part list referred in some of your other posts? It would be greatly appreciated. I would be most happy to post a video response of my beginning steps on a CP heli as I get it built.

    Thx again

  • Thanks. How about making a video of it and post it here as a video response. That would be cool.

  • Hello Dave, liked your heli taining stand and copied it! made some adjustments to metric and to my tallness. Very usefull for adjusting settings in coaxial's ! how could I send you somes pictures of the swissmade copy and adapter set to hold a Vortex 37 (similar to CX2) thru the battery holder, because the landing skids are just plugged-in ?

    many thanks and bests regards

    pewe999

  • sorry, do not know how to, no video-camera

  • Hey Dave, I just bought my first RC Heli. Got the Honey Bee Two, seems like a popular choice. When you get a chance could I get a pm with instructions on building this amazing invention?

Also, do you have a website?

  • Thanks kindly. Yes my website is listed in my Profile. I will PM you my Parts list and building instructions. Good luck with your HB2.

  • Professor Dave, Bravo on another outstanding design! I've just purchased a Blade 400 and am still a little afraid to fly it. Could you PM the diminsions to me also please. I've watched a lot of your vids and always enjoy! If you have a moment could you spot check a few of my CX2 vids and give me a grade. I think I'm ready to move up but the 400 is a little intimidating!

  • Thanks very kindly. My Training/test stand parts list and instructions are on the way in a PM. Ill check out your Blade CX2 vids as soon as I can. Thanks again.

  • Excellent video Nightflyyer and very ingenious design.

I'm new to flying Rc Helicopters and just purchased my first Elec Heli. But i wna try not to crash if possible =)

Could you send me a complete parts list please?

I want to build this stand to train myself to fly these things. Hopefully =)
