The Sony is a little less expensive, but I like the picture mod abilities and quality of the HMC40 a little better.
Both models would require an adapter for XLR inputs, which would be problematic for the shoulder mount mc2000u.
When capturing a well-lit image, the Panasonic AVCCAM compression looks better than the AVCHD compression. If I compared the Sony with the Pansonic HMC80 instead of the HMC40, the Panasonic would win because of the XLR inputs and cineGamma features.
really awesome video! This camera is really interesting and I'm thinking of buying one. however i'm quite disappointed for the low light performance. So I'm asking your opinion: DO YOU THINK PANASONIC WILL BE RELEASING A NEWER MODEL OF THIS CAMERA WITHIN THE NEXT 5-6 MONTHS? let me know what you think! Thanks in advance!
@mirkojax2 Thanks for the compliment. Were coming back with new reviews and tutorials in the next couple of weeks. There are many features that I believe would enhance the Panasonic unit along with its big brother, the HMC-80. No word on what will take place as of yet.
If purchasing later this year, I would wait for the Canon XF100, which is coming out later this month. It can record up to 50Mbps on CF cards and 4:2:2 compression.
great help thanks!! I am in a bind... I have the hdc-tm-700k. It is the consumer version of this. Why did they not include 1080 60P with this model? They give you 1980 60i. Whats the best camera similar to this thats good for doing weddings? Thanks
Great review! Thanks!

@rukiddingful1 I favor the use of a card reader, but it uploads via USB 2.0.
