Of course Bathory was also influential but Quorthon admitted that he was influenced by Venom. Infact he chose the name Bathory from one of Venom's tracks called 'Countess Bathory'. For me Bathory was the first band to really put the genre at the forefront but the pioneers were the ones I mentioned earlier.

i know that he choose that song title from venom, mayhem also got their name from a venom song to, but i was just saying venom and bathory had more to do with the engineering of the genre then hellhammer, and celtic frost. but thats just my opinion
