  • He sounds a lot like Peter Gabriel now, Wich is quite InterestingI think knowing that PG also used his voice in a similar way in the past. Cool !!!

  • H is a good singer and they have moved on. Fish though is the MAN. i hate the assc but it really was/is Genesis. He is ethereal and as groovy as Gabriel. big diff is that Genesis was big w/ Collins and H w/ marilly isn't/wasn't.

  • I hope to see Marillion and Fish someday again.

  • It is incredible to be able to give my opinion on my favorite singer whom I happened to hear for the first time when I was 14. The firts song I heard was Kayleigh. I didnt what that meant so I looked it up and couldnt find. It wans until I happened to meet an eglish who told that it was name. Now I am 35 and I still get the same sensation I would feel when I was a teenager whenever I hear script for a jester's tear. Fish: I really felt the words even though I didnt understand the lyrics.

  • he's lucky he stopped smoking when he did

  • @SovereignBeing he finally stopped?

  • @Dannymusic1999 yeah last year. much better for it now too..!

  • is it recorded at the Locomotive, Paris ?

  • Can I just tip my wee toe in the water here and just ask whether it would be possible to drop the Fish/Hogarth thing now, its been over 20 years, time to let it go guys. The bands have, why can't we?

  • The whole point i got into Marillion was the lyrics that Fish penned. They complimented each other, and i cannot listen to Marillion without Fish. But each to their own, i would say though the best work Fish has done was with Marillion, Script, Fugazi are absolute classics and in my personal opinion will not be bettered by Fish on the now Marillion. I still go to see Fish when he tours but would never dream of watching Marillion.

  • Gke your point entirely on the lyrical power of Fish - but you are losing out and cuttin off your nose to spite your face if you never listen to the H era. It s totally different but equally brilliant.

  • My opinion IS... I LOVE Fish era Marillion in my heart (it will always be my favourite - BECAUSE of the lyrics, etc) BUT Steve H Marillion is also great - I love both - it's like they're two different bands - (which they are) I appreciate both for what they are..Can I love both?? It's almost like trying to choose between two favourite girlfriends.. they are are great independently.. if I HAVE to choose - it's FISH all the way BUT - Marbles for exemple.. WOW!!

  • Fish-era Marillion will remain one of the best Progressive streaks ever. Script and Fugazi are classic Prog Rock albums.

  • My original point was basically saying that both have suffered without each other to a point, Marillion have not got any bigger or as popular as they once were with Fish, they have just changed direction.

Based on commercial success (shallow as it may appear to you) it is however a fact.

I will say it another way, if there was a reunion (unlikely), I would bet my house that it would generate far more interest than any Hogarth tour to date.

    Brave v Misplaced Childhood ????

  • That era is and always will be regarded as 'classic Marillion', sales actually do matter regardless to our own personal choices and quality of work, because it sale figures that say that era was more successful and Hogarth has released more albums with Marillion than Fish has, and it's the latter that has still sold more.

Thats the way it goes on 'commercial success'.

There will come a time when this Marillion will over take the classic Marillions sales.

    You go figure.

  • Marbles or any Hogarth albums can not equal any classic Marillion.

The reunions were more about rekindling old friendships, nothing perminant, and ending that era without bitterness. Fish clearly stated that Marillion are a different band and work very well without him. Fish was alienated from the band, that's why he left.

I can pretty much state that the Fish era was more successful/

  • 13th Star is a really great album, one of his best solo albums.

  • Marillion have failed to set the world on fire without him.

I agree that they'll never better what they had, but if you know their history, you'll know why he left Marillion.

  • I smoke and I'm in perfect health with a fine voice

  • smoking is bad for a singer, Fish gotta stop smoking, he had such a strong voice, in Marillion era...wish he start turing abroad :-)

    great posting 5*****

  • I 100% agree with you. The voice is so fragile and to have a good voice, you need to keep it in good shape. Now I don't smoke, but I've heard what smoking does for your cords, so I really don't want to get into that.

Beside that, Fish is a good singer and quite the character

  • he should soo go back to Marillion, theve got shit now =/

  • fish is grande

  • The Fish......he "The Man"

    Rock on

    Zx

  • I am looking forward to that novel that Fish says he will write in the near future. He is a very good lyricist. So, I can imagine how interesting his novel would be!

  • thank you so much for this interview!! fish rocks!

  • love this guy... thanks fr the interview :)
