just happened to stumble on this but have always enjoyed band organs. my opinion has always been that in an outdoor venue, with extraneous noise and people walking around, an out-of-tune, slightly loud and clattering machine draws more awe, attention, questions, and appreciation than a perfectly tuned machine that merely plays in the background. i know of no band organ that has not been enjoyed by those that take time to listen
@whoisthisguy724 actually, it was composed by theatre organist and pianist Ethwell "Eddy" Hanson and published in 1917, but it's true that Joe "Fingers" Carr recorded it in the 1950's. This band organ arrangement is by Art Reblitz.
why does everyone give thumbs down whenever anyone remarks on the bad tuning? really folks- bad tuning is not quaint. it gives these organs a bad reputation. tune it please!
Some owners are convinced that their organs never need tuning; one lives not far from me, and you've never heard such a racket. But he swears that the old NoiseBox has never needed tuning during his family's long ownership of the instrument. I'm quite tolerant, but even I cannot stand the noise. This Wurlitzer is good in comparison! It would be excellent if it were tuned, though!
This rag was written by Ethwell "Eddy" Hanson, a pianist and organist who, I believe, also made some hand-played piano rolls for Columbia/Capitol. You can find more about him on Perfessor Bill Edwards' ragtime site. Nice Art Reblitz arrangement, but too bad the organ is out of tune! Is this an original or replica 105? I see it has an original roll frame.
I had no idea Eddie Hanson wrote this. He was a theatre organist in the Chicago and Milwaukee region. He passed away in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I have several of his 88n rolls on Supertone label. Prior to his passing, he was active in AMICA and ATOS.
very nice.
Only wish I could hear it playing 'Dueling Banjos'...

If only Wurlitzer made smaller organs... I'd buy one with 20 notes or less - just as long as it is easy to maintain.

Is this mnbandorgan 's 105?
anglerfly 1 year ago
@anglerfly No, this was a couple years ago, before MNBandorgan got his built.
I hear it came East to a couple rallies, and we missed it.

I agree.

I am very aware of tuning issues, but sometimes a tune is too neat not to post.
This one isn't too bad by comparison to some others, and did a lot of road miles to get to this rally..
Unfortunately, I have some really neat stuff that I can't post, because the organ is so painfully out of tune.
Some owners aren't as sensitive to tuning issues as others.

I agree with this, as well. Some organs (very few, mind you) do actually still sound good while out of tune.
I'd post those other ones, just post a disclaimer about the problems with their tuning or something.

I'd still like to hear em'! Though it's out of tune.
